WWF WrestleFest is a professional wrestling video game developed and released by Technōs Japan for arcades in July 1991. The EU/AU version were published Tecmo. It is the sequel to the 1989 arcade game WWF SuperStars and is based on the World Wrestling Federation. Whereas SuperStars only let you compete in Tag-Team, WrestleFest allows you to compete in the Battle Royal: Royal Rumble as well as Saturday Nights Main Event: Tag Match. At the time of the game's release, the actual WWF Tag Team Champions were The Nasty Boys (Brian Knobbs and Jerry Sags) who are absent from the game, although the Legion of Doom would defeat the Nasties to claim their first WWF Tag Team Titles one month later at Summerslam 1991.
Awesome game from back in the day! I teamed The Hulkster with Jake the Snake. DDT ends the match every time, but I used to let them get up before applying the sleeper hold for a win.
Here's a RU-vid comment from Guru Larry in regards to the Legion of Doom being the final bosses for the Saturday Night's Main Event mode: "It's odd that it looks like they were going to be selectable characters at one point. But really, [Technos] should have had LOD as the selectable characters and Demolition as the bosses, it would make more sense to have heels as the final bosses than faces :S"
that "Winners Don't Use Drugs" intro at the start is all kinds of ironic given the steroid scandals that the WWF came under fire for in the early 1990s.
