In the reenacting community lots of people do Airborne and mostly the 101st. with that there is lots of "reenactorisms" and bad reproduction gear. here's a basic list of the best vendors for items
M42 Jump Uniform AtTheFront & wwiiimpressions
Helmet, net, scrim J Murray or OG for the helmet, Net AtTheFront or WPG, Scrim go Original (OG)
Boots Corcoran
Leg Knife M3 ATF for knife and scabbard and white cotton strap or shoelace for holding it
Field gear AtTheFront or OG, Rigger pouches Service Rigger Co.

Fantastic impression! Uniform and kit is set up brilliantly. Great you do something other than 506PIR. CC2 effect is spot on too. Looking forward to your video showing how best to do it - I’ve always struggled.

Another thing about the bandoleers, DONT buy the bandoleers with the words on it saying 30-06 and stuff, its post war. Just buy the blank ones

The famous "Utility strap" was actually used to secure litters, i think it may be used to also secure a knife onto your leg. The white leg strap that you showed in the video, as you said, it was used to secure cots, paratroopers ripped these straps off of them and used them to strap things on their legs. I think the same can be done with the canvas litter strap. Let me know if im wrong

Original scrim is oily and dark becuase they were darkened with whatever the soldier had available, grease, oil, anything.

What is the standard issue t shirt worn by army troops in Europe because when looking at army troops and marines in the Pacific as seen in some movies and shows such as Hacksaw Ridge and The Pacific etc, you would see guys wearing white or green shirts therefore I always assumed that paratroopers and other standard army guys in Europe would also get issued with the same t shirt to save cost and keep production simple by making the same thing

Its really fucking easy, the strap around ur bottom leg and the shoelace around ur ankle, tie it good and ur done, doesnt really matter which leg, but mostly u see them wearing it on the right leg

I've read how some did and some didn't. It was cold in Europe in June so they would. By the end of the campaign I've seen some wearing just the wool trousers and m42 tops

I just watched this after getting a net and scrim from at the front. Would I be able to rub some dirt on the scrim or darken it with that tea trick? I'm doing late war, not para though. I've got a few things that may not be strictly period, like gas mask bag, and boots. All of my gear is OG, except for the clothing.

Honestly ditch the scrim itself. And buy Original. But the net is fine. And if you're doing late war then you'll only be using Scrim for Dday

I am going to try to enter the 4th of July parade they have in my town, though. Thanks for the response! I'm trying to learn all I can. I need to weather my uniform and leggings soon.

You can use some fairly worn fieldgear for your Normandy pre jump, as you trained with the same gear you eventually jumped with. I'm a WW2 US Paratrooper reenactor (82nd 505th just postwar walking out dress impression, 517th and 551st Southern France and of course the 555th Triple nickels) , and there are countless pics of paratroopers getting ready to jump with seemingly worn gear. No need to get gear for pre jump, then D-Day +1, D-Day +6, Hedgerows, Normandy breakout, etc

Example being the 502nd wore a white cord on the shoulder, some units wore a scarf around the neck, so on and so fourth

Parrellels here with a no. of MILITARIA advisors etc ....ANDREW MOLLO (WHO was MILITARIA /UNIFORMS ADVISOR ON ...THE CHARGE OF THE LIFE BRIGADE he received little or no SPT from the DIRECTOR!! Did paratroopers ever get issued the od-7 shovel covers or only the od-3?

After 1941 the Army was switching from 0D3 to 0D7 that's why by the time of the Invasion you'll see guys wearing a mix of gear some OD7 some OD3 and many transitional as well. If you have 1 or 2 pieces of gear that are OD7 or Transitional you will be accurate

Here’s a question, my great uncle was in the 82, and he carried a Ka-Bar knife given to him from his step brother. Do you think that it would be possible for me to carry one in my impression?

For Airborne I'd say no since they weren't issued K bars. They got the M3 knife which is kinda like a K bar. This is an Airborne impression for WWII so K bars I wouldn't be too keen on having on ya

Just go on ebay and put in white cot strap ww2 and one should pop up. From there just attach it to your leg

What color paracord is acceptable for boots?

Good Morning. Sorry for the late response. From my research you have white paracord which was used for some dress uniforms. And green since it was the same color used on the parachutes.

I think so many people wear white shirts, and not even the correct but modern ones, has a few reasons 1.) Of course Band of Brothers, the reason US Airborne interest skyrocketed 2.) Photos. There are quite a few photos where the white collar is clearly shown 3.) Comfort. Which is ky reason sometimes as I find a t-shirt sometimes more comfortable than the tank top BUT I have the gas flap closed so it's not even visible what I wear underneath the shirt, I could be wearing a Superman costume under my jumpsuit and nobody would know 😂.

There is always a photo everywhere somehow. Hell I have a pic of a Airborne guy from WWII rocking Aviators doesn't mean we can all do it. Same with white t shirts. I can find 100 pics with them but the 10,000 pics without them is what people seem to ignore. Comfort isn't reenacting. You want to reenact you'll have to well....re enact lol

@@beavernation1747 I only wear them when I do commemoration marches otherwise it's tank top. Ever tried walking 25+ clicks when both the tank top, suspenders (cause only few still had the pads after Normandy) and musette bag straps rub on the same spots? That's when I pick a t-shirt over a tank top or nothing at all under the M37 shirt depending on weather.

@@beavernation1747 I spend 8 years in the infantry, was Airborne qualified It's not about heavy (my WWII gear can easily hit 25+ pounds though), it's about cutting my shoulders up (which I learned the hard way) on a hobby so that I couldn't do my job because then the sky high weight would f me up more. I've done 50 milers with full load out among others, so you don't have to tell me what a current infantry trade carries. Point is sometimes a little bit of comfort, or padding is a better word, is justified. 99% of reenactors, many of them haven't served at all, don't have that "excuse".

@@davidbrouwers7309 Well if they want to not be Farby then the solution is simple. Don't have the t shirt seen. Just like with underwear. I wear modern ones not WWII ones. That being said then cut the t shirt so no one can see it. No harm done

Best place I've had luck with was WhatPriceGlory. The color and felt type is both accurate and comfortable. But they're also easier to get messed up. Which is also normal since they weren't meant to last a long time

Whats good man. The way I was taught was to buy the stencil which I have and got it from an old website. Just Google WWII stencil and you'll find it. And I used a ball point pen and absolutely went to town on making it shade in

Hey man thanks for the speedy response! Yeah I recently got my m42 jumpjacket and wanted to do what u did with the last name and lundry number I've done some research and found a place Serviceofsupply that makes the ww2 style stencils just wasnt sure what to use to mark stuff in I thought permanent marker but that might be to much but just normal ball point pen?

@@wyattrierson1851 Make sure to check to see if your unit you're portraying did that though. A lot of units didn't have the time to do that. The biggest thing you need to do now for your M42s is wash them a few times to get rid of the new wrinkle look and get them CC2ed

@@beavernation1747 oh haha im not currently in a unit I'd like to be but im really building this kit for personal look and also for airborne demonstration class I plan on going to I've gotten the non reinforced version but once the stencils,extra arm pockets and patches are added I will be asking service co rigger mods to add those then it's just competing the webgear and helmet

What's 'John Wayneing your chinstrap'? If you mean just having the standard helmet chinstraps hanging down that's by far the most common way guys had them from all units in normandy. Sure the chincup and A frames were stuck into the liner but as stated chinstraps hanging down is really the way.

Incorrect for the most part. As you'll see pics here and there the vast majority wouldn't be doing this. Esspecially since they dig into your equipment ect. They trained in England before the jumps and would have learned that before

@@myballs24 Hey man sorry for the long AF videos. I have been working like crazy. I'll make sure to get to it soon For now my advice would be get them in the mud and leave them outside for a few days. Brush them off and repeat until you have a few dirt stains.

It was a chemical impregnation done to the uniforms in case of a gas attack
