The new cover art helps tremendously. You should see the old editions! I'd never go for this, myself, 14 volumes of what are essentially distilled combat reports just isn't for me. Good luck getting through them.

Once you finish this, you can move on to Craven's "The Army Air Forces in WWII" (a mere 7 volumes).

Hi Peggy, I have recently found your channel and I am spending way too much time here. I am so glad I found you because we think so much alike. I am currently finishing the last semester of my undergrad degree in history and minor in military history. I am struggling to decide what the next step is. I am fascinated by the rules of war and the way they change over time. I hate that my next class begins Monday so I will be very limited in my reading time. Thanks so much for the great videos.

Katie, it's so nice to meet you! It does sound like we have a lot in common. It's so cool to meet another woman into military history. What are your favorite areas of study under that umbrella? Eras/wars? I recently graduated with my BA last October. I was a late bloomer when it came to getting my degree, but hey, better late than never! When do you expect to graduate?

@@TheHistoryShelf Hi, First, sorry this took me a bit. I typed out a reply last night and it disappeared, so I will try again. Thank you so much for taking the time to reply. I love to study anything related to World War I because it was the thing that got me into going for a history degree when I was given the opportunity to study it with a group of high school students. I don't think that there is much in history that I don't like to read about. I am not so interested in the details of the battles as understanding what happened and why. I hope to graduate in May if all goes well. I will be 50 this summer, so here's to late bloomers. Do you have plans for what to do next?
@TheHistoryShelf
@TheHistoryShelf 4 года назад
@@katiedillon58 We are nearly the same age! Late bloomers unite! I honestly decided that if I want to get a Master's, I might do it in the next couple of years. We'll see. The BA was the real crucible for me, so far, with a full time job. I can't imagine working, writing book reviews, making BookTube videos, and then going for a Master's. Which I will have to pay for completely. Meh. I'm really enjoying be "school-free" right now. Taking a break is a good thing! World War I is also another love of mine. I'm dying to see "1917"..have you seen it by any chance?
@katiedillon58
@katiedillon58 4 года назад
@@TheHistoryShelf I am hating that I keep deleting my replies. I have not seen 1917. We tried when my son, who is a college student in NC was on break, but it had not come out here yet. I also want to see Midway, but that was not out either. I hear you about the master's degree. I can't decide what to do. I would love national security but it is not possible to get a job in that field where I live. I am thinking of library science right now.
@TheHistoryShelf

@@katiedillon58 Library science sounds great! I wanted to BE a librarian when I was a little girl, lol. Now it really does almost require a PhD to get into the field.

I adore the videos you put out... I have added so many books to my library off of the videos you made... most recently midnight in Chernobyl... Awsome btw... Check out "An empire on the edge" by Nick Bunker... Very well written of the pre revolutionary war era... Thanks for the great reads!!!

DJ, you rock...your comment really made my night. :) I'm so glad you're finding new books to enjoy, like Midnight in Chernobyl. And yes! I have "An Empire on the Edge," it is one of the books on my shelves I intend to read...guess what? It's going on my 2020 reading goals now!

@@TheHistoryShelf No regrets. I hate having incomplete sets. Plus, that was an old printing. Your set looks like it's been newly printed with great cover art.

Finally! But what happened to Volume 15????????????
@TheHistoryShelf
@TheHistoryShelf 4 года назад
It was a 14-volume set! Don't freak me out! Is there really supposed to be a 15th volume??
@codex3048
@codex3048 4 года назад
@@TheHistoryShelf Yes, Volume 15 is entitled "Supplement and General Index." It could be considered non-essential to philistines, but not bibliophiles.
@TheHistoryShelf

Andrew B Dang it! The publisher must’ve thought it wasn’t essential. I’ll have to look for that separately, I suppose. 😒

William Martinez Hi William! Great question. I’ve definitely read some books I ended up disliking and said as much on my channel (these are in some older videos). If a clunker comes across my desk, you’re gonna hear about it. 😊
