Just when I thought I saw everything. This should have been at SEMA!!!! Lucky gunner garage had an armored survival vehicle....but yours one ups theirs. Awesome build. I want one!!!
Looks like the perfect vehicle to build a home out of put your family in, or in my case, the perfect place for a disable combat veteran to build a safe tine home in!
@@somebodyelse5820 I have a manual vehicle already and it works me enough. I just want to drive this and park somewhere and camp and eat and wash and go somewhere else... eventually huh? :)
@@r.a.4475 The M939 5 Ton Trucks never used a Caterpillar. You are thinking of the Stewart & Stevenson LMTV/MTV Trucks which have used the 3116 and 3126 and now have the C7.The M939 5 Ton Trucks only had a Cummins, all the M923-M944A2 Trucks used a 6CTA Cummins. The older M939 Trucks before the A2 use a NHC-250 Cummins.
@Class Act The M39 5 Ton Trucks if it was a M51A2,M52A2,M54A2,etc had a Multi-Fuel,most of the time they had a LDS-465-1A or some times a LDT-465-1A or even 465-1C and 465-1D.The other Variants like your M51A1,M52A1,M54A1,etc all had EDNT-673 Mack Engines and were manufactured by Mack. Then the very first and early 5 Ton Trucks such as the A0 including the M51A0,M52A0,M54A0,etc had a R602 Continental which was Gasoline. The other 5 Ton Trucks like your M800-M832 Trucks and M923-M944 Trucks are all Cummins. The M809 Series used a NHC-250,the M939's until the M923-M944A2's had a NHC-250 also, later Verisons with the CTIS Tires use a 6CTA.The MTV 5 Ton Trucks, counterpart in resemblance to the LMTV,use Caterpillar Engines, first Variants used a 3116 which was also used in the M35A3,M36A3,and M109A4.Later on they had a 3126,and now they use a C7,even in the Armored ones. Going to the M35 Deuce & A Half, the first decade of them were Gas,they had a OA-331 from Reo and Continental, and so did the M34 Eagle Beaver, which was soley based off the GMC M135,but ancient as a relic can be and very rare. The second phase of the Deuce were called M35A1's and had a LDT-427 Engine until getting the LDT-465 or LDS-465.After AM General discontinued the 2 1/2 Ton,they came out with the M35A3 as I said and they were Caterpillar and way different. But then the LMTV came out and replaced them. The 2 1/2 Ton LMTV and 5 Ton MTV are the same except the LMTV is a 4×4 and the MTV is a 6×6,they are the same size how ever. The Army still uses the 5 Ton Truck, but instead of having them in a Series and having certain differences, they are now in a Family of FMTV,instead of being split. But in the Marines and even for the Navy Seabees, now they have 7 Ton MTVR Trucks from Oshkosh, which are Caterpillar powered. Those replaced the 5 Ton Trucks.
How much would one mab 1 with gun turrent be, if you change all the armor to something that looks like with armor but really isnt? I dont need armor against bullets but I would like to have the look...
Put enough components into it to qualify--that depends upon the state--and register it as a motor home (RV). No CDL required then. Typically, you'll need sleeping provision (bed), cooking facilities (stove, sink and perhaps a fridge or icebox), and toilet facilities (a "cartridge" type commode will qualify in many states).
The M923 is part of the M939 5 Ton Trucks. They all had a Cummins. The early ones had a NHC-250 and the later ones had a 6CTA.The 6CTA is mandatory in the M923-M944A2 Trucks, older Variants use the 250 and different Tires to.
1/4 in plate is not going to stop a 7.62x51 fmj let alone armor piercing. Are you still running CTIS on your A2s? I only saw it on the front axle?it does NOT look like you have any armor plate on the side of the hood, wouldnt that be important since the tranny cooler is all up there, not to mention you could easily take out the radiator from the side. I understand your trying to keep the weight down especially sinc ethe truck has a MGVW of only 51K, unless I am missing something it seems like it should have MORE!!! Karl
All the M923A2-M944A2 5 Ton Trucks have the 53/1200×20 CTIS Tires. You should check out the RHINOTAC Armor they have put on a M813A1,only two of them exist so far in the World.Truck weighs 57,000 lbs,at least two of these MAB 5 Ton Trucks together and it's slow as can be.The Owner who has it is from East Texas,I've seen it in person,it makes my own M813A1 look like a weak shit brick.
No,if you own it as a Non-Hire Commercial Vehicle, you are allowed to drive and own it.You will need License Plates for it and some other required items depending on where you live. And if you don't have a CDL,you will be restricted on how heavy and how much you can carry with the truck.Espiecally with these being Armored, they will be heavier, the M923 Cargo Truck weighs 21,550 lbs empty.
Impressive looking vehicles, however, you'll need to paint and mark it up to look like an Army or USMC vehicle AND get yourself some surface to air missile capability because once they figure you're not military you'll be on the first chopper's target list for sure... all that work and expense for a burning hulk taken out by an Apache... then there's that Abrams 2.5 miles away, you can't see, that will provide you with a very bad day. When a SHTF situation arises there will be a lot of young service people with very nervous trigger fingers... what's your survivability looking like now? S'pose you could paint: 'I'm just escaping with my family' in large letters on the side of the vehicle... let me know how that one goes. Cheers, BH
Bill Halliwell: If an Abrams or Apache is firing at you, it doesn't much matter what you're sitting in. You might wanna check which side you're on, too.
I'm very sure a good amount of Weapons even held by hand, other than using a Craft as a AH-64 Apache and a Vehicle like a 70 Ton Abrams Tank could do serious damage to one of these.Just like discussing about a roll over,no Vehicle is armor proof or roll over proof, they all have their limits on how much damage they can take.
So macho, and with rubber tires. We would take out your tires and wait for you to come out. With your truck disabled you would become stationary and we are moving so how is Macho working for you now?
Rod Cain , good luck with that, as heavy as the truck is it would be disastrous with all flat tires. You may think it would run on flat tires but it won't.
K S , obviously you are not military ,and what doesn't make sense about A heavy mammoth vehicle not being able to move on flat tires? And your first comment to me explains the type of person you are. And I'm pretty sure I have forgotten things you didn't even learn yet.
