When this young man gets to be an adult, they won't let him compete any longer as he will take home all the medals, ribbons, and trophies as Mark O'Conner did at 17 or later. Wyatt Ellis is just as good as it gets. Mr Chris Thile was just as good a musician at his age. Look where Chris is now.

Thanks regardless and God Bless Mr Henry, I’ve never had it opened up to me like this , but you said something very enlightening among many things you’ve said “ don’t think like a singer speak mandolinese …”

Boy! I dig this format. Helps to identify the Swiss cheese holes in my learning progress.

I have also learned a bunch of tunes from the vault of tunes from the recordings of Norman and Nancy Blake. These folks are still with us, but we have no idea for how much longer. It's worth listening to as much of their material as possible. They have played stuff that could be called obscure or buried under the mountains of time. Worth digging up and playing for posterity and future generations to learn and enjoy.

@@ChrisHenryVideos yeah, brother! Not officially classified as "blue grass" but an ancestor to Bill's music. I really dig that old time sound. That's what Bill called "ancient tones"...all great stuff.

. . . and with a little more experience he may come to realize it might not be a good idea to change strings before a podcast... unless he doesn't care if he's out of tune :)

I recently discovered a tasty version of the Popeye tune-- Sailor's Hornpipe. I have heard it since I was a kid, but never tried to figure it out on mandolin, then I heard one guy do it his way, and it all made sense.

I really enjoyed your playing with Peter Rowen at MerleFest. One of your band mates Julian mentioned to me that you had a RU-vid channel. I just checked out a couple and really appreciate your thoughtfulness, teaching & playing. Thanks for doing it all.

So on blue ridge Chris you are doing shuffle count on man melody 1and a. But on slide lick, going to 16ths 1 e and a
@ChrisHenryVideos

If I’m understanding correctly, yes!
@jimlincoln5490
@jimlincoln5490 Год назад
Also how would shuffle lick, on metronome, I’m kinda getting the hang of it without it though,
@ChrisHenryVideos
@ChrisHenryVideos Год назад
I would encourage you to have one shuffle lick (1 and a, one eighth note and two sixteenths - one long note and two short notes, down, down, up) for every click on the metronome
