Wyll's design almost fools you into thinking he's a boring kind of hero ||  

he's the only character wearing 'default' armor which I think just reinforces this idea in a meta sense. If I play a warlock Wyll and the MC are dressed the same, not even a pallet swap. Which makes him feel boring and unassuming, but at the same time he's now more marked by his class than any other origin character.

I think his "boring" look is intentional in universe aswell! His father is famous in baldur's gate, and as such he wishes to distinguish himself by, ironically, staying bland. He wants to be a part of the people and so, he dresses as such.

I love characters who make themselves seem simple or stupid, only to subvert your expectations.

Moment met Wyll immediately thought "wow, this is a funny lil guy. Youre going to be my best friend now." Like dude literally hits you with a rehearsed line like a meme then just starts slaughtering goblins like he's him. Then the mans nice to the point where if he leaves the party in a evil playthrough he just sounds disappointed that youre becoming a villain and before that point dude trys to offer you advice to be a hero to steer you from the dark path. Mans good friend

Bro, when he introduced himself with the dumbest, most rehearsed line ever (like he thinks he's cool or is trying too hard to be), I rolled my eyes so hard and was all to happy to annoy him in dialogue- and then he turned on the real charm after he got interesting and bro... I need to romance this man in my next playthrough

I love that wyll actually gets patron interaction as opposed to custom warlocks

what i love about all the characters in bg3 is that all of them are the antithesis of what their class should be, gale is a wizard that needs to consume magic rather than control it. astarion is a rogue but he's the oposite of the brooding edgy rogue and falls more in the category of bard, karlach rather than the fight hungry rage filled barbarian is an open energetic person who is just sick of fighting because she was stuck in combat all her life. shadowheart being a cleric of an evil god, and wyll a warlock but instead of being power/knowledge hungry he's more like a paladin, and minthara is an evil drow paladin

Wyll's scarring and eye are VERY interesting. the fact that the pupil of his fake eye is a heart... and the scarring on his face looks like a violent caress. Like something with claws cooed and traced his features lovingly while also hurting him.

Moment I saw him in action, i fell in love. He's magic Zorro. He's so cool, and anyone who thinks he's boring are too preoccupied with being "unique and mature" or have to take a chill pill. Being just a cool guy is perfectly valid characterization.

Wyll's character is great because it does what so many players & DMs don't do: it make the fact that he is a Warlock, a person who has effectively sold their soul to a being of great power, mean something & explores what the ramifications of such a deal might entail. Too many tables treat it as 'the Eldritch Blast/Hexblade dip' and leave it at that.

rapiers are also more a nobility weapon, a gentleman duelist not rugged frontiersman who would be almost expected to have an axe

Honestly, Wyll and Karlach are my two favorite origin characters

The people who put deliberate effort into appearing boring are often the most interesting once you get them out of their shell...

I think, in a way, dressing more casual let's him be more connected to the everyday person that he rescues.

i think seeing wyll be so caring for the tiefling children made me absolutely love him and no matter what his character kept getting so much better from all his development. also having eldritch blast ain’t so bad either 😂

Wyll also has a charming RIZZ Where you dont even know you are being rizzed until its too late

If you do a playthrough as Wyll, you HAVE to romance Karlach. Its the law.

I actually always liked Wyll's time as a more typical fantasy hero. And how much he does his best to stay true to that, no matter what he goes through.

Wyll is too kind of a guy for his own good. Even though he is trapped in a pact with a devil that has manipulated and disfigured him, he still doesnt regret his choices because he knows that he did what he did for the sake of protecting others.

All I can see is that sussy little crop top he wears at camp. 😂

I give him Beasts hat and the red prince's cape. Really completes the look.

Literally every companions back story is amazing. How it feels like you're learning a part of them you feel you shouldn't know, literally watching them grow out of old habits and form new ones, or hiding their true self behind a fake image, just like Wyll. Talk about amazing character design

I'm sick and tired of people constantly trying to brand "classical" as "boring". I baffles me that anyone could think Wyll is, even superficially, "boring".

The second I learned Wyll was a warlock I immediately went “okay so there’s something else behind that basic armor.”

Warlocks and their patrons are why they’re my favorite class in the game. Beyond the gameplay fantasy of “caster with limited spells but each one hits like a truck”, the roleplaying potential is simply insane. If you can work with your DM to get it right, you can have some of the most compelling rp moments ever. I can personally attest to that fact. So it’s great that Larian chose to have a warlock as one of the companions, because there’s so many ways to portray the patron/caster dynamic, and how that influences the appearance and mannerisms of the caster.

I kinda feel bad for not having him around at all for my playthrough (I played a Warlock myself because they're my favorite class in DnD), because I actually really like him

I don't know how common knowledge this is in the wider community, but wyll is the character with by far the most changes from early access to full release. In EA he was basically the boring "goody 2-shoes" character that he initially looks like in the full release. Part of this is just because karlach didn't really exist in EA, so his motivation was focused on the goblins instead, but his general demeanor and relationship with his patron were also a lot less nuanced and less interesting.

When I first saw him, I assumed he was a fighter. Learning that he was a Warlock when I first found him - and that fake eye is actually a seeing stone - was when I knew he was going to be interesting.

Rolling with Wyll, Karlach, and Shadowheart has been really working out for me so far.

at first I too thought this was a basic hero chasing a demon when I saw his introduction, won me over when I saw he was a mele warlock which I love the idea, and his story is just so much fun the more you discover about him!!!

We're playing co-op and my husband always examines everything, friend or foe alike. That moment when he said "Oh lol, Wyll is a warlock" in the first combat I was like HE WHAT NOW? Awesome character and my best boy.

I haven't played BG3 yet, and was like "ah, the Fighter companion, using a baseline design to establish him as direct and down-to-earth but with some neat experience as the Blade of Frontiers-" Skyen then says he's a Warlock, and I'm just like "oh shit that design does so much work".

I love Wyll. One thing that struck him was how much he cares, and honestly how good of a man he is. *SPOILERS FROM HERE* When he was talking to his father after being rescued and said "There is nothing to forgive." when his father tried to apologize made me take a step back. Its hard not to think some of Wyll's kindness is part of his Blade persona, but that scene hit me that Wyll is genuinely just... a forgiving, loving man and wow I swooned!

Wyll was the character I was surprised to love the most. I expected so little of him but he grew on me so incredibly quickly. At first it was kind of ironic, in a “hah! WYLL is the character you managed to start romance with first?! Sure i’ll roll with the bit.” But he’s so charming, in the way he’s unabashedly proud of the good he’s done despite everything he’s been through, how he cares so much and beneath the show he puts on is honestly so humble… it grew on me to the point he’s genuinely my favorite party member

I actually really like Wyll. As a friend put it - he’s the one guy who doesn’t reminder her of an abusive ex and that’s a rare character in a fantasy story

Wyll isn't boring, he is simply outshined.

He was by no means boring the first time you encounter him. In fact i was underwhelmed when i got him as a companion because he seemed so OP in the first fight with the goblins at emerald grove

I'm a sucker for warlocks with one marked eye.

He might not be vanilla, but that doesn’t mean he still isn’t overlooked for more interesting companions!

His story is by far interesting, to me cause I thought he's like this too goodie hero and blah blah, but when you journey with him he's story unfold and I was surprise! As a son of someone special, he feels out of place and traveling as a humble blade of frontier saving people, on that moment I knew we be best friends

He did _way_ too good of a job of fooling me… I made him sit in the camp for the entirety of Act 1 because I thought he was boring compared to other companions 🥺 Now you’re telling me my suspicion of “a one note goody two shoes is very odd for this game. honestly in the EA he was pretty boring. not going into detail but he did not have any cool introduction, did not interact with a certain someone as much as in the full release and his fake eye had a different backstory which i found interresting but badly executed (early access n all that) but i really really loved what they did in the full relase! He is such a good character!

Back during EA, I thought he was a ranger (I never put him in my party), especially when he goes by "Blade of the Frontiers". Apparently that was just me xD And also, apparently I didn't wonder why he can eldritch blast.

During Beta, I thought he was just an NPC for his simplicity, didn't even bothered to interact with him, only discovered he was a Companion during my first playthrough after full release

Also he is one of the funniest companions if you pay attention to his lines. His jokes are unassuming and natural, different from Astarion and Shadowheart' sarcasm. He basically slides in a wisecrack when you least expect it and I love it. Much love to Wyll, a sweetie, a badass, a hotie and a good person.

I was sketching him the other day and decided to give him an over the shoulder cape, then it looked so good i had to take a second. Imagine him at the end of his arc as the blade of avernus, with a blood red cape, fully embracing his infernal features while keeping his values close to himself and having karlach's back

One thing I've always said about Wyll regarding his introduction line of "Provoke the Blade, and suffer its sting." It feels like he practiced that line in the mirror several times before actually busting it out in the field. He may not be a Prepared Caster, but he sure as hell has to prepare his one liners.

Wylls atory took so long to come online imo. I fell for Astorian and Karlach almost IMMEDIATELY. They where charming and thier plights caught my heart right away!

Respect for not spoiling anything in any of these videos. The hints can be a little heavy handed, but they’re all to do with Act1 stuff so I feel like it’s fine.

He's always the first to die in my party. My nickname for him is "Kenny" because "OMG that Orc killed Kenny!"

An interesting thing I found with Wyll was at first I saw his blind eye but as I progressed with him I looked at his real eye for emotional feedback and didn't even bother with the stone eye.

I picked this man as my MC for my first playthrough and I am so glad I did. Having played Divinity Original Sins II, I knew the story would be made richer playing from the perspective of one of the origin characters. My first playthrough in any RPG is always as a heroic type and this man is perfect (followed up immediately by an evil playthrough, looking forward to Dark Urge).

I read also that his character designer gave him those face scars imagining that Mizora had clawed him like that. So you can start off thinking that they're just from regular ole adventuring, but like so many other parts of him it gets recontextualized once you learn about his pact.

I will agree on that his character development actually make him look less like an npc, as sacrilegious as it is if you kill karlach in his quest he actually does get some drip from mizora, if not he gets devilfied, both looks mad interesting and even funnier when he says Dragonborns wear horns better than him

He ran away from me within 10 minutes of joining my party. Like bro allowed me to massacre all the tieflings, animals and attack kids but he left when I stepped in to help the goblin escape 🤣🤣

He looked so much like the others that I didn’t know I missed him or Karlach at my first play through 😭
