Thank you for sharing both this video and the video where you put it together. Both of them helped me in figuring out the path I'm going to take in getting a new table. I was considering backing the current Game Toppers table, but the more I think about it, the more things I find that I don't like about it. The main one is that I like the warmer feel of wood versus aluminum. And, even if I got the tables with wood inlay, it's still made from aluminum. Another is the depth of the vault. And last, looks. It's interesting that the price of walnut (like yours) is almost the same price as the other table after getting legs. So, I'm either going to build my own for cheaper or go with the Wyrmwood or if I can find another brand for cheaper. I have some tips for you since I grew up with heirloom quality wood furniture. First, any mass produced finish that's sprayed on (like most mass produced furniture) will not hold up and will scratch. It's best to add 2 coats/sand of polyurethane or a wax finish, depending on which you prefer. (I prefer wax for eating surfaces and poly for gaming surfaces. So, you may end up choosing both, wax for the leaves and poly for the rails/legs.) Before adding this protective layer, fix your scratches with a matching stain. Most manufacturers will have what look like pens or markers that you can color in the scratch with. It won't fill the scratch if it's deep, though. (Worst case, you can always sand everything and reapply stain/poly/wax since it's all hardwood. But your scratches didn't look that bad.) If Wyrmwood doesn't have them, then look in your paint or hardware stores. Last thing, never put wood against wood. Those leaves will scratch the rails and underside of the leaves eventually. Buy either strips or circles (depending on the shape you want to use) of self-adhesive felt or cork to adhere to the underside of the leaves where they rest on the rails. Put them in from the edges far enough so they won't rub on the container to store the leaves vertically in as well as if someone scoots the partial leaf around, it doesn't fall off the rail. Before you attach them, make sure you have put on the coat of polyurethane so they are adhering to the poly and not the stain/wood. If you use wax, it'll wear much quicker than poly. (6 months for wax reapplication versus years and years for poly, of course depending on use.) Sorry for the long post. But, thanks again for the videos as well as making Tanares Adventures! I'm waiting for the PM to close and for it to be made and ship!

Love my Small table from the 1st campaign. Was in Wave 0, so have had almost 2 years. I have pretty much every problem you shared. All minor considerations. After two years, the scratch’s are really starting to build up. I also have 2 player boards, probably only needed 1. I am going to get a few hobby shelf’s from the current campaign. Use the vault all the time to keep my active campaign game. Currently have ATO setup in the vault, but playing a one shot of Zombicide on the topper. I use the Cloudspire neoprene mat as it is a perfect fit for the small table.

I have a large espresso table from the first campaign. I really enjoy the table and would encourage anyone thinking about the table to reflect on your comments about the value of leaving a game between sessions covered in the vault. This is great for longer games for sure. It also has great value by improving setup/tear down time if playing the same game between sessions, or just the freedom of being able to "pause" a game at any time for days or weeks at a time. It really is refreshing to not need to think about if I have the time to play a whole game of game X. I can just play it for even 1 turn then come back later if I want. A phrase I heard when debating getting the table that has proven to be true is that 'a gaming table multiplies the value of your entire gaming collection' as it allows someone to enjoy all of their games more often and in more ways. I am in the 2.0 campaign as well for adding espresso accessories which I am glad they changed their mind on. Although I have not done it yet, I am with you on the neoprene. I would like to replace the default felt with neoprene for the feel and also the dice rolling sound.

We abandoned a few long campaign games because it became too tedious to keep packing up and resetting everything to the previous state and trust me it is much easier to set up the game for a new game than keep remembering what we did, where we were and so on ... if we had a table like this where we could just cover up everything till the next session it would have made an enormous difference ... even though I have a great massive oak table, I could not leave anything on it because the table is used for serving meals and we also have cats that keep jumping on the table and would mess up everything ... A table that can store my long campaigns such as Oatshworn or Vanguard would be a dream

Hey my Fiance and I got a large table and noticed the issue with the topper popping out as well. I don't know if you have tried this but the way it doesn't pop out for us is that we put all the toppers on and then pull 2 up from the middle (Something like this -> " _ _ _/\_ _ _ " ) until the end piece falls in. When we lower the two back into place it creates a tight fit that doesn't allow for shifting and a tight seal. Table looks awesome we're jealous you got a wargaming one lol. Hope this helps!!

Great review, thanks. Any discomfort leaning forward playing games? Did you tuck your mat in the felt groove or is it just laying flat on the bottom
@Phlanx06
@Phlanx06 Год назад
No not really much discomfort and I'm pretty tall so I usually get more of that kind of thing. The chairs are probably more important for that. It tucks in but there's definitely extra material there for the times of the year that cause the mat to shrink some

@ehammer85 Год назад
i've also been looking at the vikingmats to replace the felt. custom size with basic colors is definitely a selling point on those. i'll be curious what their price point is for their neoprene solution - though i think theirs will be around the 2mm thickness range and bigvikingmats are 5mm (could be wrong). i'm still on the fence about their 2nd campaign, either going for additional accessories or a coffee table size one.

Can you show the stability of you mug solution in another video. It feels like a good solution to both the mug problem and if you need a personal component holder. Also what is your thoughts on the hobby shelf in the new kickstarter. I have never had a vaulted gaming table so it is hard to know if that type of accessory is valuable. Thank you for your video it was helpful.

I'll be doing a Livestream tomorrow and I'll be at my table so if you're on and remind me I can show it then. It's pretty stable, I'm not sure as a component holder because it's not very deep but the metal cups could be component holders as well. The hobby shelf didn't impress me that much but maybe it could be useful for a bunch of 3d printed trays that you could keep off the table as organizers.

@@Phlanx06 one last question, the table dimension on kickstarter says 49in by 64.5in but on the neoprene that was ordered from wyrmwood says 49 by 65. Would it be safer to order the 49 by 65? Or should I stick with the 49 by 64.5? Was not sure if the .5 inches would make a big difference or not
@Phlanx06

It's better to go slightly bigger because the mat will slightly shrink. I don't remember my exact size right now but I asked in the wyrmwood gaming table discord and they recommended a good size.

With the counter-height table's apron being about 6 inches, did you find you sat comfortably under the table with regualar counter height chairs (24" seat height)?
@Phlanx06
@Phlanx06 Год назад
Chairs are by far the hardest part with this table height because it's much more rare of a height and yes the vault is big so it's a bit more tight underneath. We have a few different kinds of chairs because of the height being difficult

@@ArthurBGumby sorry for the delay I got busy and forgot about this comment. Yes we have some 24" floor to seat chairs and they work. We also have chairs that are a little over 25" and they work as well but are tighter, just depends on how big your legs are.

Wyrmwood sez it's just what solid wood will do, and it's caused by uneven drying (check WyrmLyfe S15E18). A humidifier would help, or even just flipping the toppers around once in a while.
