Wyrmwood Modular Gaming Table Issues 

I’m not going to lie, when I saw the title of this video my heart sank and I got so nervous. But seeing this comment and the other honestly makes me feel better.

@@Danny_DaKid if you follow wyrmwood on their wyrmlife they are actually very transparent about their business, troubles they're having, what they're doing to remedy the issues, and what they will do to make everything right with backers and customers. I'm not a representative of them so I don't want to speak for them, but if you document and communicate what your unhappy with, they will work with you (unless your request is unreasonable for ex 'I ordered a cherry table but I actually want Zebra Wood' or something like that. Basically, just reach out to wyrmwood.

I did make the video specifically to email it to wyrmwood as part of a customer service request, but it does seem like Doug found it independently really quick. Was really nice to see him jump in himself and comment.

Yeah, I made the video to send to wyrmwood in the first place, and they responded within a day, before this video got any real steam. Plus Doug replied to the video directly, so you know they're taking it seriously.

@@joeldpn yea I just can't think of another company that would be this on it period I didn't get a table because I had just bought a new expensive regular dining table right before they announced but this definitely let's me know that when its time to refresh it that it's a top contender

Thanks! Yeah, the biggest issue was just the disappointment. I was camping the kickstarter page to back it within seconds of it going live in order to get into the first delivery tier, and I've been looking forward to receiving it since January. To finally get it and see so many issues was disheartening. But I know Wyrmwood will make it right, and I'll still have an opportunity to enjoy a cool new table.

Yeah, they actually got to it before this video had any traction at all. I made a youtube channel just to send them the video, wasn't expecting to get as many views as I have.

I fully intend to make another follow up video once I receive my replacement. They told me to give them 2-4 weeks for processing exactly 4 weeks ago.

Wyrmwood is great, and I'm sure they'll follow through. I'll post an update video once I get my new table so that everyone can get a sense of how Wyrmwood handles issues like this.

Yeah, I wanted a video to send to wyrmwood customer service and I thought other people could benefit from seeing an honest report of what might go wrong and how Wyrmwood responds to issues. So far they've been excellent and I expect to make another video update when I receive a replacement.

@@archer9076 My table leaves are real wood planks much like the table in this video here. The trouble with real wood is that it can bend / warp / change over time leading to gaps and such. I'm finding that out as I go along. I had to tweak some of my leaves after they changed slightly. The holes in the knots in the video, are not an issue for me because I thoroughly plugged and sanded out any such gaps or cracks before finishing my leaves. Since I'm building my own table, I'm responsible for my own scratches... lol! But so far no problem. I'm working on the game leaf surfaces now, and was hoping to publish them sometime early this spring, but... as life would have it I may be moving out of state in the months ahead. @@rosascreativeworks5403 looks good. How did you stop the solid timber leaves from warping or expanding? I left room to allow for it but it still did it. I'm going to move to a mdf veneer for my next one that way it won't change

@@archer9076 I didn't really. In the future, I would use a technique where several boards are laminated together and the crown in the wood is reversed. This is supposed to help. For me, I just glued pieces underneath and am hoping that will keep them stable long term. We'll see. Best of luck! :)

I was in the early bird tier as a January fulfillment. Judging from the very few people I've seen commenting on table delivery before me, I think I may be the 5th table delivered, or somewhere around there.

Yep, still waiting on them to send me a new table, and should receive word on that any day now.

Of course! I mostly made the video to send into Wyrmwood customer service, but I figured open transparency would only help other people thinking of doing business with Wyrmwood. I fully expect them to replace the out of spec parts of my table and intend to make another video update when this gets resolved.

You're welcome! Don't be too worried about your table. The longer you have to wait, the more likely they'll have fixed all this before they build yours.

I'm sure they'll fix this down the line, especially with the new machine they've been waiting on that's supposed to speed things up. Maybe you'll be able to back the next MGT kickstarter they're planning. They'll surely have everything figured out by then.

Considering how out of alignment the topper was, I did wonder if maybe somebody accidentally pulled my parts from the 'bad' pile instead of the 'good' pile.

Yeah, I was certainly bummed. But Wyrmwood has contacted me about a replacement table, so now I just have to wait 2-4 weeks to hear back about that.

I hope so too. They gave me 2-4 weeks to process 4 weeks ago, so I should hear something any time now.

You might be waiting awhile, they basically do a kickstarter then spend a year or more fulfilling that kickstarter before moving on to more products. Considering how much of a production backlog they have, I don't know when they'll be able to accept new orders outside of the kickstarter for these modular tables.

They mentioned humidity problems in wyrmlife, so that could be true, though I don't live in a very humid place.

I'm confident wyrmwood will get this sorted. They always seem very customer satisfaction oriented.

Yeah, wyrmlife makes it look super stressful.

It sucked, and if they had shitty customer service I'd certainly be mad about what I got for the price, but their response has been excellent so far, so it's been easy to keep a level head.

@@danielengel4593 I have dealt with their customer service on tiny issues and they have always treated it like the most important issue. These guys don’t mess around with their Craftsman’s Promise.

I didn't notice anything wrong with the topper in the videos wyrmwood put out, which is why it was pretty disheartening to see how bad the warping was. But yeah, everything else is just even more sad trombone, as Doug said.

Still nothing so far. If you've been following Wyrm Lyfe or their kickstarter updates, their MNT machine basically shut down production for awhile and they haven't been shipping tables for the last few months. As soon as I get my table, or if I think they won't give me a table, I'll make an update video.

You are on point here. I have accidentally walked into them while moving around the table and they basically swing like they're on a hinge. However, I've never done that while a cup was in it, and the wood on wood contact of the cup holder to the rail is what's actually supporting the weight. The magnet just attaches it.

@@joeldpn After thinking about it a bit more, I just don't think it's a good idea to have a friction fit like this when wood expands and contracts like it does. I always though these were going to be T-slotted. Anyways, other than the problems you pointed out, the table still looks great. When you see other tables that look like this, most of the time they won't be solid wood and just be laminate veneer so these should last much much longer.

I have not. Today marks 5 weeks since I was given a 2-4 week timeline for processing, so it's starting to look pretty bad on their end.

I just received an email saying my replacement has shipped, so I'll be making a new video soon showcasing it.

I built the table the night before, made the video the next morning.

I watch wyrm lyfe religiously and have been enjoying the craziness of all the problems I've been seeing and how they resolve them, but I totally thought they were catching everything before they went out. It's a bit eye opening to actually receive a table with issues, and I hope I'm just an outlier and they get it all sorted out.

My last correspondence with Wyrmwood is that they delayed all replacement tables until after they get the new machine they've been waiting on, which they've discussed a lot on Wyrmlife. The last actual ETA I got is another 5-7 weeks from today.

Yes I have. The panels are wonky no matter how you put them together, though it would still be bad if identical looking panels only fit together correctly in a specific combination.

I'm expecting a replacement delivered within the next week, and I'll be uploading an update video to showcase it.

Yeah, I seem to have hit the worst kind of table lottery.

Yeah, if you're near the end of delivery, you've probably got nothing to worry about. I expect they'll have ironed out all the problems by the time they're shipping internationally.

Some people like them, some people don't. I fall into the latter category, since it's a break in the surface of the table for things to catch on or collect dirt. That type of imperfection is supposed to get caught in the quality control, which Doug confirmed in his comment.

I love knots in wood. It reminds me It is an organic product. Too bad the owner and the company felt this was a flaw. So much wood will be wasted over this taste quirk.

@@tjduprey in their Wyrmlife videos (their video series that documents things going on) they had an at length conversation about wood with knots and how they can limit wood waste.

I've had numerous offers like this, so if I do get a wholly new table rather than just replacement parts, you'd have to wait in line.

I spent $850 on the Kickstarter on the table itself plus the topper, not counting accessories or shipping.

It can have knots without putting an actual hole in the table. It's not that hard for the woodshop to avoid planks with noticeable holes like this, and the comment from Doug confirms this kind of defect is not to spec and should not have made it into a finished product.

Feel like you watched the first 30 seconds and then decided to write this stupid comment instead of watching the video in its entirety.

This table cost me $950.

The prophecies are much higher dollar

I'm pretty sure my table is an outlier. If you check the pinned comment, that's the former CEO and current head of modular gaming table personally responding to this video and promising a replacement table. So even if they do have some QC issues right now, the company is going out of their way to address problems and replace bad products.

My heart certainly sank when I saw the issues, and it sucked to be so excited for the table and then deal with that disappointment. But I trust Wyrmwood to make it right.

A lot, but their customer service seems to be taking care of him. Hopefully we'll get an update soon.

The biggest challenge to overcome with wood products is seasonal movement. There isn't really a great way to work around it, and the best anyone can do is try to take it into account with design. That said, some of these things are out of spec, and Doug pointed them out above. I'm not privy to their workflow so I can't say why they made it past QC. Wyrmwood has a killer warranty and it looks like this will be resolved. The time spent waiting will probably suck, but there isn't much that can be done about that. The bigger issue is if these QC issues plague a lot of customers. That would mean a lot of refunds and loss of profit for Wyrmwood. Source: I'm a wood product manufacturer.
