Do you employ any resin artists/crafters? With the amount of wood you process I am sure you have some decent 'waste' that many who work with resin could make into amazing products. Burls, bark, worm(wyrm)holes, large cracks, these pieces can be made into one of a kind boxes, towers, tray walls. You can stabilize wood easily enough to run through the machines or handcraft the products. I mean I would love a Black Poisonwood with red or purple resin in the flaws. Just a thought to use what may be waste, sorry if I overstepped on the suggestion.
Offering a custom piece every couple of days could be really cool. One dedicated artist (or maybe even more) for using your garbage to make extra money sounds pretty good to me. Although that does kinda clash with the kickstarter angle Wyrmwood seems to take with every project.
Things in this video: - Spongebob references - Jason's Dad - Doug's other hat - Doug roasting Jason - BIG BOY Table And much much more! Lol but seriously I feel like theres so much content in all of your videos nowadays and it surprises me in the best way. I learn a lot about Dougie and his perspectives on business, JV with his unique camera shooting and editing, Jason and his design ideas and goals, and so on. This was pretty great! I love your work and all the love you guys put into making your craft affordable and accessible, thanks for working so freaking hard for us.
I’m so happy you guys are featuring more of the keystone crew. It’s nice to get to know the new faces (and the faces that look suspiciously related to the old faces). Also those tables are gorgeous! So excited!
I know, they truly are spectacular. When I saw those tables I said to myself, out loud: "Now that's good craftsmanship", followed by: "why did I say it out loud?"
Amish, uses cellphone & designing software on a computer, roasts whole pigs, breeds pet cockatiels, and has an OG Amish horse-n-buggy … freakin PogChamp
One aspect that I really like about recent episodes is that they seem to shed light on the amish and mennonite that seem to break many of the common stereotypes.
We live across the road from one family, and there are several more families around, one of which runs a sawmill. They're good, friendly, hardworking people, and some of them can drive a truck just as well as a horse drawn buggy. I learned 3D modeling by just getting hands on and figuring it out. Though I still took two college classes to fill out my schedule and required electives, there's a lot that I already knew and learned after that was never covered. If Doug wants to learn, play around and watch some RU-vid tutorials.
@@Drasell_ Ugh... I know what you mean... buying anything in US dollars hurts my heart when it gets exchanged into Canadian. Granted the exchange rate has been trash for a long time but it's been a while since it's been 90s level trash. Or is it worse now?
@@shadowgirl00 - Canadians, never fear. When the next stimulus package is rejected by the Senate, August eviction prevention ends and thousands become homeless, I'm sure Canadian money will go up in value. You can always count on America to shoot itself in the foot. SMH.
@@cassiebanks I am old enough to remember that in the height of the 'war on terrorism' and the beginning of Amazon, when our dollar matched and at one point exceeded the US. So much so that people thought the brick and mortar bookstores would go out of business because Amazon allowed exchange in real time while the prices on the back of the books were still followed. And that comment made me have weird flashbacks to that.
Padauk is my jam. =) I'm looking around my apartment and quite frankly am astonished at the number of old TV/Computer/Printer/Entertainment pieces I have with huge storage areas on the bottom. I could see myself replacing some furniture. My biggest game storage is the entertainment center my current 32" TV is on (used to be a microwave cart back when microwaves were huge in size). I have longer boards sitting over the top of it as the unit itself is not wide enough for the TV legs, but the bottom storage area is 30" wide 21" tall and 18" deep, on some really heavy duty casters (nice for vacuuming) and is stuffed full of old traditional board games. I like that the doors keep the dust out, but I keep thinking if they had some of those Wyrmwood magnets from the dice vaults on the doors instead of what's on so many of these units, my life would be so much easier. LOL!
As much as I want a full table, and they are beautiful, I live overseas and move to a new country every few years due to work, a table just won't survive, but the coffee table... That I think can survive, so a gaming coffee table is perfect.
@@mwil2495 Mawson, Casey and Davis are staffed year around by Australians, they also built a runway so Wyrmwood can send the table airfreight. Kim who runs the Antarctic Division would probably be okay with a table I always had a good conversation with him. Wyrmwood should really.make it from Antarctica Beech as millions of years ago they used to grow there.
@@mwil2495 We all know scientists are nerds, so they probably play table-top games. And if they don't, it's probably because they don't have a table yet... Just saying.
@@WyrmLyfe It is legitimately distressingly tempting. I even have access to a large enough vehicle to take may table (tables? I do want a new coffee table) home from Keystone...
To quote the immortal Steve Jobs: "There's an app for that". Many android email clients allow you set different notification tones for different labels or addresses. Just give the incoming mail from Wyrmwood the most obnoxious, loud alarm you can think of and you won't miss it even if you're asleep at the time.
I tend to prefer deep reds in furniture like end or coffee tables, would be nice to have a stained cherry option. That said Ive been looking for a coffee table I actually like for two years. Looking forward to supporting another project
I've watched so many businesses promise to be consumer friendly and really care about their community, only to fall into corporate greed, and become shells or their former selves. But I can't even imagine that happening with Wyrmwood. You guys all have heart and soul. Keep up the awesome content, because I love the "exclusive" look into the business side of Wyrmwood, as well as the shenanigans you all get up to. Thanks, guys!
I honestly didn't even notice the fedora at first. It just registered as: Oh Doug's wearing a hat 😅 Can't wait for the kickstarter! The tables look amazing
Question answer: Small 4 person game table + half-sized coffee table, espresso walnut. Also, I'm not sure about Penn Doug's hat. Makes me think of the bad guy at the start of Jurassic Park, who gives Dennis Nedry the money and the shaving cream can. "What are you, a secret agent?!"
I come away from every Wyrm Lyfe laughing more than watching a typical comedy. It's hard to make me laugh, and you guys get me every time. These glimpses into your company feel so unique as if we have bonded with each of you ourselves, and I'm loving it. So happy to be here each week.
My wife and I just bought our first house, and I cannot wait to sink my teeth into this Kickstarter. It’ll be the most money I’ve ever dropped on one Kickstarter ever, but for a true bona fide gaming table with attractive woods, it’ll be worth it.
Hello ! Quick question, I'm not in a position to buy one of those tables at the moment, but that's something I would like in the future. Are those low-cost table gonna be exclusive to the Kickstarter or are we going to be able to get them after that ? On an other note, the padouk looks stunning ! Great work !
Love both of Doug’s hats! We are STOKED for that coffee table size!! Quite literally we’ve been searching for a square coffee table for over a year because we love to play board games. Not sure on wood just yet, but we’re thrilled.
For where I live, I've got my eye on the Lilliput. I don't have room in my apartment for the dining tables or the larger of the coffee tables. As far as woods go, I love the Wenge, but cherry fits better with my current furniture. Poisonwood would be perfect.
I would love a purple heart coffee table or even dining table, but I assume the price point for that wood will be much higher then I can afford. I hope you will be able to make those tables available outside of the Kickstarter one day, so I can safe up a bit more :) And one word to Keystone: The folk there seems good hard working people, so I really hope this all works out for Wyrmwood and Keystone, I beliebe you clearly share the love for your work.
I don't know if anyone has mentioned this, but Board Game Tables did a kickstarter a few years ago that was the first "mass produced" gaming table. They definitely had some shipping issues (mainly because they were produced in China or overseas). It took them quite a while to get tables to everyone but their price point started at around $550 plus $150 for the topper. We bought one because (at the time) it was the only gaming table you could buy for under $2-5k. I'm really interested to see what your price point is because the quality looks fantastic and I would much rather have a Wyrmwood table than what we have now.
Man, Wyrmlyfe has just become one of my favorite things on the internet. I just find learning about your business so interesting. I am seriously considering a black walnut coffee table. I don't need a new coffee table, but I want a Wyrmwood one. :-D
Have to say I’m super excited for this Kickstarter. Watching WyrmLyfe is the greatest. Oh an JV, keep up the great work. I do have a serious question though. Is there any possibility to throw Bolivian Rosewood on the wood list? I’ve wanted a Bo Ro table for years. Definitely my favorite wood to look at. Even if it’s a stretch goal it would give me hope. Please consider. I’m sure there’s a lot of people who would want that wood as well. Again, Love you guys, keep up the Amazing work!!
What about chairs? Will there be a recommendation for chairs that will match the wood, design, height, etc...? Going to need a full set to go with the table ;)
I'm blown away by that finish Keystone can get! And poor Jason, y'all ragging on him LOL I love it. SOMEDAY I will have a reason and the resources to buy a table from y'all. Especially that coffee table; it really piques my interest! Can't wait to see more!!!
If I lived in North America I would probably try and get a cofee table and a 6 person table. They look SO GOOD specially that corner bevel, that close-up got me, well done JV
This series has come so far from it's humble beginnings, and man what a fantastic produktion quality capability you guys have reached. Every episode feels like something straight out of a Discovery channel documentary :-D :-D Always looking forward to the next episode :-D ^^
"Weekly Question: 1.) Which size table do you have your eyes on? What wood do you want? " We will be purchasing the medium sized table, chairs, and some accessories.
This episode was really great!! Dunno what about it; but it felt like one of the best edited yet! Keep up the great work guys, extremely excited for this Kickstarter, and to see where things go from here!!
This episode had a lot of Wyrmwood loving on Keystone with their woodworking quality and complimenting the employees, and then you have the joking and conversation with the different employees that were great. It was just a really great and heartwarming video that makes me look forward to this merger!
This was a brilliant idea because they also get a sort of rough idea of the size of the Kickstarter from the number of people that signed up for the email list I love Wyrmwood!!!
I'm super hyped for the lower cost tables and I have some quick questions: Are there specifications released for the tables yet? Like the overall size of the table and the size of the board gaming surface? If not, will these be released before the kickstarter launches? I'm about to move and although I have the floor plan I don't yet have a sense of how the space will feel, so knowing the table sizes would help. :) Plus I will unfortunately have limited internet access when the kickstarter launches... :( So all knowledge one can get beforehand would be awesome!
Thoughts off the dome as I watch: That singing logo reveal!!! O:[ Rich is awesome. Johnny's smile is fantastic and improved my day 4x immediately. This episode showcases a bunch of niceness about the Keystone facility that kind of softens all the fear, in my opinion. I liked the little walkthrough of their facility, saying what was better than the Wyrmwood facility. I also like those box... things on the ceiling. My brain said, "ooh!" so there you go. Brain happy. When you guys stood in the oven, I got sudden Bond Villain fears for your safety. John interacts with his glasses with such gravitas that I just... he's interesting. Interesting dude. WHOA, and shade for "Crazy" Ed. DOUG! Nice hat, man. You looked more tanned, relaxed, and happy, and I couldn't figure it out until just before you pointed up at your head.
It depends. Our neighbors across the road use power tools on jobs and one drives a van. I think they technically don't own them though? I've never asked.
Like other groups, there are different levels of participation. My friend did business with an Amish man who could only go online if he was traveling in a vehicle.
I saw those tables and benches at Universal! Solid pieces. I know I can get me a coffee table, but I've got to wait on those numbers to convince the family on any other sized table.
That's great finishing for mass production, but I'll still take a hand-rubbed oil-varnish blend if I can get it any day. If y'all devoted a tiny department to making single custom pieces with that level of attention, I know they'd sell. Also as a woodworker, I volunteer to *be* that department haha.
I did not realize you all expected to sell out so quickly on the lower tiers. This was my one hope to get a gaming table. I'm going to cross my fingers that I get one!!🤞🏻
I've watched this episode like 5 times already trying to picture the exact sizing. My bf and I hope to buy our first house next year and will be in need of a table so the timing super lines up for us! Super eyeing that beautiful padauk, will probably go with the 6 person size as it'll be most easy to accommodate when house hunting, but I'm really tempted by the 8 person one.
So excited for these tables! After discussing with my wife, I think she is seriously considering getting a coffee table in addition to our medium sized standard table. It would be the perfect place to leave whatever game our 3 year old is obsessed with that week set up inside.
I will say this, all other things aside: I live in KY and our Amish communities are very separated. This series has done more to humanize the plain communities for me than anything else I’ve ever encountered. JV, you’re doing a cool thing. Thanks.
The "Lilliput" is the table size that appeals to me most! Being a good size for 4 people, and able to double as a coffee table seems ideal! I don't have kids, but when I was a kid, I remember my family of 5 sitting around a coffee table and playing games. I could always run around between my turns or chose to stand up or sit on the ground, or even sit on the couch while playing due to that height versatility.
The new logo is so cool, and the segues with it are clever and neat :) Definitely looking at that medium table, make sure it's as modestly priced as you said it would be!
So excited! Hoping for a 'Big Boy' 10-person Purpleheart table... I have -so- many board games to play on it! My son is almost a year and a half... I want him to grow up playing board games with me on this table and then (ideally) playing board games on it with his kids!
Very sharp-looking wood options! I think the only way I could be convinced to buy another game table would be to swap mine out for one that can mount a television (with the screen flat in/on the table top). I'd really like to switch over to digital maps for in-person D&D games.
Can't wait for this kickstarter to launch. What is everyone's plans for chairs? I was thinking of getting the table in purple heart, but worried about finding chairs to match well?
Will these tables continue to be available after the Kickstarter? I would lovvvveeeee one when the hubby and I start looking into buying a house in a year or so.
Oh my god this is exciting. Thats one hell of a selling point that they made chairs and benches for the Harry Potter restaurants. I hope this kickstarter does well so Doug can pull the trigger on this deal.
Love the video guys! So much fun getting to see the inner workings! I would say old hat Doug and how can I get a wyrmlife logo? Even a sticker would be awesome
I would really like to know prices and dimensions BEFORE it goes live so I can see if this will fit in my room and my budget. Would love to have one, but dont want to be making a snap decision in a few seconds to avoid missing out.
I am so looking forward to this. Any measurements coming soon? Really need to measure up stuff BEFORE the kickstarter, so that I can get the wifey on my side on what table size we are ordering.
When will I be able to pick up a Wyrmwood item at my local Amish market? They sell quality furniture there. We purchased a Keystone Collection kitchen table from them. (I'm close to PA in MD)
I am so excited. I am -almost- more excited about this than the new house I'm putting it (them?!) in. I think I'm eyeing a Cherry Six-Person, and a Black Walnut or Cherry Coffee Table. -- Are Chairs going to be the same as the Prophecy ones? I'm going to look to budget for those, possibly.
