Great to hear! I’ve still had no issues with it, just sitting on the wall doing it’s job. Let me know if you run into any install issues!

I appreciate it! The picture trick saved me twice haha, especially handy if you have to plug the old thermostat back up for any reason like compatibility. (They do returns if it doesn’t fit) Good luck on the install, let me know if you have any questions or run into issues, hope I can help!

Nice review. I have a few Wyze products including this thermostat and love it! I highly recommend upgrading the firmware ONCE when you get any Wyze product and never again. I've only had issues after firmware "upgrades".

Thanks! Still very happy with mine, only issue I sometime have is I walk past and see it lost Wi-Fi so I quickly unplug and replug it, but it’s on a schedule 24-7 so I’d never notice it lost connection.

Thanks for the video! Question .... can you set the fan to cycle on at specified periods? My Ecobee allows me to set a minimum fan run time to help with circulation, which comes in handy for our 2nd story to be close to 1st floor.
@PhilipBlank
@PhilipBlank 2 года назад
Thank you and yes sir! In the advance settings page there is a setting called “Fan Cycle” for you to pick between 0-30 min in 5 minute increments. The setting says “The minimum amount of time your fan will run each hour” so if fan is in Auto mode and the AC is not running, it will keep the fan on for up to 30 min for circulation per hour.

I've mine for over two years, maybe 3 years now and have had no issues with it. My only gripe is that I'd like the temperature to stay displayed on the screen. I'd like to look at the temperature across the room instead of walking up to it.

I’ve also had mine running strong over 2 years. I do get these spells of it losing connection and I just pop it on and off to reset it, but it has the memory and schedule programmed so I never notice when it’s not online as I don’t adjust it much any more, it just does it’s job, and a device I still recommend.

I amazon reviews that it keeps on disconnecting from wifi, is it still happening a lot after the 1.2.7 (May 4, 2023) firmware update? Planning to buy this used on amazon as no new in stock and sold out on wyze website.

Hey! I’ve actually been seeing this a lot more recently, once or twice a week I’ve walked by it and seen the no-WiFi connection symbol. I don’t know Wyze wouldn’t program it to do a self reset every couple days to reset the WiFi connection. For me, I’ve got the device schedule so set I never open the thing on my app or touch it, it keeps my house at a set temp in the day, evening, then sleeping and in a fixed range. The weekends have their own temps as well. If I go out of town I put on hold to an away temp. This is a bug that should be fixed from Wyze, but I’ve not been hindered by it.

My thermostat wiring is w2, w, (white connected to not in used,) y, r and rc together with jumper and the back of the thermostat i see blue and white connected together. Don't see any blue wires common coming out of the thermostat. Can this work with wyze thermostat?
@PhilipBlank
@PhilipBlank Год назад
Hey Jay! I’ve been trying to dig and find your exact set up but not had much luck without more info or seeing it. It typically can work with most thermostats, but if your’s was set up uniquely it may not. You can check out this tool on their website to see if you can figure out your configuration: www.wyze.com/pages/wyze-thermostat-compatibility and if that doesn’t work they say to submit a request here: support.wyze.com/hc/en-us/requests/new . Hopefully we can figure something out, don’t want to purchase something that won’t do the job!

Great video! I'm having the opposite issue of what you were having initially. My thermostat is set to heat to 64. But it says my temperature is 66 or even 68 and it's turning the heater on. Not sure why it's turning on if its already above the desired temperature. Another issue, I noticed, with my dinosaur Honeywell thermostat, it would turn on about 5 to maybe 6 times a night and kept warm at desired temperature . But my wyze thermostat must have turned on about 100 times in a single night for short periods of times even though it's already above desired temperature as I mention. Any suggestions to make it work properly? 🤷
@PhilipBlank
@PhilipBlank Год назад
That’s an interesting issue! I’ve not had it but can try to take a guess on how to fix it. First, you want to make sure the heat and cool are set properly, that the thermostat knows to click the heater on instead of the AC and vice versa. If these two wires are swapped at the install it will heat when trying to cool and cool when trying to heat. There is a setting in the Advance page all the way at the bottom to swap heat and cool if this is the case. You can run a “System Test” at the top of the advance page to validate. If your wires are set right then we can skip this step. Next on the advance page make sure your “Safety Temperatures” are like 40 and 90. Scroll down this list and check the fan cycle is at 0min/hr to make sure it’s not kicking on. The next thing to check is that your temperature preferences on the main settings page is set to what you’re wanting, that may be overriding your input heat of 64 along with checking the schedule if you have that set up. Give these a go and then get back with me and I can try to dig into it more. Good luck!

Great video. Do you know if it allows you to set the temp 1 degree above and below? For example, in cool mode, if I set the temp to 74, can it turn on at 75 and then turn off at 73? Thank you.
@PhilipBlank
@PhilipBlank 2 года назад
Thank you! And it does not do exactly like you asked, but in the advance settings page there is a settings called “Differential Temp.” It says: “This settings determines how far from the set point the thermostat will allow the the temperature to go before turning on or off.” It gives you the option for .5°, 1°, 2°, and 3°F to select from. So you could say cool to 73°, and it would not kick on until it hit 75° giving you a bit of tolerance. Anything less than 73° would not turn the AC on because it is in Cooling mode, not Heating or Auto switch. Let me know if that doesn’t answer your question and I can try again!

It good to hear it has a Differential Temp setting..do u know if it has Calibration setting..? what that does is allow you to match the temperature from another room..like for example if you have a 2 story house and the downstairs temp is 72 degrees but the upstairs temp is 74 degrees, you can adjust the themostat to 72 degrees if it's mounted upstairs to match the downstairs temp..
@PhilipBlank
@PhilipBlank 2 года назад
@@markh8921 Yes sir if I am fully understanding the question! Right under the differential temp setting there is a “Temperature Correction” option. It reads “Use this setting if you find the temperature is consistently reading slightly above or below the actual temp.” This has a range of ±10° to allow exactly what you’re saying. There is also the same setting for humidity percentage. Wyze did just come out with their Room Sensor which would then allow you to cool until that room hits a temp I believe but I’ve not tested it yet.

@PhilipBlank
@PhilipBlank 13 дней назад
Oh man! That’s a tough one it’s been so long. I don’t know off the top of my head right now, once I get back in town I’ll try to look at what anchors I used. In general, use the drill bit that is about the same size or slightly larger with this kind of press anchor so it can slide in but not be loose.

Can you schedule the fan and also schedule the thermostat ti turn on and off?
@PhilipBlank
@PhilipBlank Год назад
Good question! There is not a specific “turn on fan” by itself at a set time, but you can create schedules to turn the thermostat cooling and heating on and off any time. I have it set to start cooling down to 72* at 10PM and hold that through the night then up to 74* in the morn, then 78* in the day when I am away, back to 74* in the evening and then repeat it all. You also have a setting called “Fan Cycle” in advanced settings to tell the fan to run a minimum number of minutes in an hour. Say your house is set to 74* and it is that temp already but you want the fan to run 10 min in an hour, it will turn on for the 10 min to circulate air without heating or cooling. I don’t use this feature and have that set to 0 min/hr.
@yvi6991
@yvi6991 Год назад
@@PhilipBlank Thank you so much for the reply! Regarding the schedule that you are setting is your thermostat actually on the off position and then the scheduled time turns it on?
@PhilipBlank
@PhilipBlank Год назад
@@yvi6991 no but you could do that. The schedules work off of temperature ranges, so for the night schedule, I have a low of 64 to turn the heat on if it gets colder, and high of 72 to turn the AC on if it gets hotter. You could create rules (which has a scheduled action buried in it), which is separate from the Schedule to turn the Thermostat on and Off at certain times of the day. Not sure why you would want it completely off, but it does have the capability if needed! Method: Create Rule> Schedule> Select Time and Add action> Select Device> Select “Turn on Off Mode” or “Turn on Cool/Heat Mode”. I am curious how the rules versus schedule would override each other.

@@PhilipBlank Hi Philip, The thermo I have now malfunctions and runs making it warmer in the house to what it is set to and then when I turn the system off the stat reads a cooler temp by 1 or 2 degrees. I am hoping if I get the new stat that I can program the fan with a rule and also turning on or off with a rule. Thank you again for your time and I will post if I have an update for you with the outcome.
@PhilipBlank
@PhilipBlank Год назад
@@yvi6991 not fully sure I understand, but you can program it to go to set temps at fixed times and you can put in an offset if the actual temperature is slightly off from the thermoset. Hopefully it will help you with your problem! Just make sure your system is compatible with it before making the purchase as some older systems are not. Thankfully it is not as expensive as many other thermostats, good luck and let me know how it goes!

That’s a really interesting question that I wish I could be more help on! From what I can read, that’s not going to be possible as that system does not have most the parts necessary for the Wyze system and in the app there would be no way for it to know there is no fan or AC. You’re normally needing just a mechanical thermostat and I doubt the device would get past the first initialize step. That being said, if you’re good with wiring you may be able to rig something up like this man did: Wyze Thermostat for Boilers ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-G-QOQ0-F63g.html Sorry I can’t be more help!

Have you noticed your electric bill gone down or increased?
@PhilipBlank
@PhilipBlank Год назад
I wouldn’t say I can look at the graph and see a exact correlation to lower energy bills, the bill is directly related to the weather outside and how much I need the HVAC to run. But, I will say it is a lot easier to make sure the system is not running when you don’t need it or are away. It’s been great to just open the app and flip the house to away when we are out of town. Most thermostats can be programmed but they can be far more complicated and manual so I appreciate the ease!

my app doesnt automatically detect the wires ,,,, its so frustrating
@PhilipBlank
@PhilipBlank Год назад
Yeah, usually the items that the wires go to do not have any signal telling the thermostat what exactly it is for it it’s heating vs cooling or turning the fan on. This makes labeling super important to keep things organized and why they typically have wires color coordinated.

I don't like having to get on my smartphone and clocking in to WiFi monitoring for every blingin' thing. I was almost ready to get this until I saw you can't set the schedule right there on the device, you have to go find your phone and drag the old ball and chain out again. At least this one has an actual working dial, instead of touch nonsense that gets it all dirty and never works right. The new Google Nest also has this silly reflective screen, that makes it harder to read. As if I want to see myself when I set the temperature! I'm good with a mirror sigh. My search goes on for the right model of money saving thermostat......
@PhilipBlank
@PhilipBlank 3 месяца назад
That’s a great take, it’s hard to find anything anymore without some kind of app or such but I guess it can’t be a Smart Thermostat and not run on WiFi. You must pair it to WiFi for the set up and adjust the schedule for the first time. I will say though that if you don’t care to have wireless updates from your phone, it is set and forget and I never touch it from my phone. You set for the first time what you want your high and lows to be and at what times, and then it will continue to follow this all the time even with WIFI off. I’ve not touched the thing for a couple months at this point, really set and forget and that’s what I think a thermostat should be but it cannot be rescheduled from itself so if I am wanting to adjust the programs like you said it’s back out with the phone. Good luck on the hunt, if you find the perfect device though let me know!

@@PhilipBlank just to let you know, after wasting days on this researching, reading HVAC forums, Reddit, and untold stories on RU-vid... I went with an Ecobee Enhanced. The entire operation can be done on the thermostat... 'just like the old days', but you can set scheduling, and away temps, and has other features that promise bill savings. For some reason HVAC technicians drastically like EcoBee over Nest. I figure the people that repair furnaces, are probably a good bet for opinions on thermostats, but who knows. This El Nino summer is predicted to be a broiler with epic utility bills.... I'm going into the battle with this.... we'll see how well I make it through 😅

Sorry my dude! As an engineer I can get into the technical weeds without even noticing haha and it was definitely not very clear. But in short, you can’t use the thermostat without first connecting it to Wi-Fi. Once you connect it the first time to initialize everything, you can then disconnect and use without Wi-Fi. I set it up before having wifi and had to use a hot-spot on an iPhone to initialize the thermostat. Afterwards I waited until I installed my router and connect the thermostat to it. Let me know if there is anything I can clear up and I’ll try my best!

It will not stay connected to the routher. This is the whole reason I bought this POS. I’m away, I’m on my way back, 3 hour drive. CANNOT TURN THE AIR BACK ON, so I get home and the #&#$ house is 85, it’s 11 PM and it won’t be cool enough to sleep for FOUR HOURS. Guess I will have to rely on setting up a schedule. OH WAIT THIS POS DOESN"T HAVE THE MOST BASIC FEATURE LIKE A SCHEDULE. My bad. It is such a stupidly simple feature, I didn’t bother to check. Besides as long as its wifi I don’t need a schedule. OH WAIT, THE WIFI DOESN"T WORK EITHER. It is a known problem. It’s not the router, its not the wifi, its not a weak signal. It is the thermostat and and I forgot that the purpose of the thermostat is NOT to control the HVAC system properly. The purpose of the thermostat is to move money from my pocket to theirs. Mission accomplished. If it also controls the thermostat, then thats a bonus. The purpose of ALL products offered for sale is to get you to buy them. If you paid for it, mission accomplished. If it does whats on the box, then its a bonus, but don’t expect the company to give a flying F whether you are happy or not. They got the money, now take a hike.
@PhilipBlank
@PhilipBlank Год назад
Dang Dan, sorry yours is not working well, I think there are a few things to try while you still have it installed. First is it does have a schedule, in the thermostat page on the app click on the gear in the top right and then click Schedule. Here you can control it to go to any temp on any day at any point. You can have it not run the AC when you are gone then turn on at 8 or so when you want it to start cooling to a set temp. All of this is local to the device so if it loses Wi-Fi it will keep following it’s last known state. Second, in the advance settings you can put your “Safety Temperatures” to where if for any reason it hits those temps it will engage the AC or heat. I have mine set to 45 and 85 so it will not go above or below this even if I remove schedules. I’ve had very few issues with mine and it’s been up for 8 months now, if you have a defective unit and it’s new it looks like they have a 1 year warranty, or a 30 day happiness return policy. Definitely gotta make things work for you so we can try and make it do what you need before tossing it and losing money. Let me know if you want any other details on things.
