Thank you for taking the time to review/break down this product. You are very down to earth, thorough, honest, and to the point. I was gonna just subscribe, but you had me at....."Buy me a beer" ha ha ha! Hope all is well in your neck of the woods in these crazy times we live in. Much Love from The Wasatch Front
So glad you liked the video! And thanks for the love! It was one of those videos that I just made to get better at making videos. I am still surprised it is so popular. If you like the camera, the new v3 pro is coming out soon, I should have hands on one soon!
Thanks for the info! Just bought a full system and about to set up. Got around the outdoor battery concern by buying a couple of adapters that attach to porch light sockets.
I started with a ring doorbell cam. Then I got a Wyze cam v2. I got a Wyze cam v3 and had a lot of trouble with it. I bought a 2nd v3 but the one I counted on the one that shows the drive way, kept giving me problems. I'm back in the Wyze camp for got now. Wyze is too innovative. I plan to buy 2 more soon as I can. Yesterday I learned via RU-vid how to watch the drive way v3 cam on my IMAC M1 and on the tv with Amazon fire stick. Cool.
I have had a Wyze 2 outside for over 2 years. I live in upstate ny. Temps ranged from -15 to 98 Fahrenheit. Have it in carport facing down driveway. Withstood blizzards and rain storms. I just put plastic over we’re you make connection to electrical. 😄 . Just ordered v3 as I would like better night vision.
I just bought one thanks to this video! The onboard recording is what sold me. I'm happg to announce that we can now view the SD card recordings from the app without removing the card!
Excellent video! A third recording option is to store onto a Synology NAS. Wyze has firmware which supports RTSP. I have several v2 cameras hooked up to my Synology, so I don't need to pay for the cloud subscription.
@@ThisSmartHouse Can you do a video on how to get the V3 working with other camera software like Synology or Blue Iris? Not specifically to each type but how to get the camera into RTSP mode?
Best review i have seen on this ! Thank you very much :) For my purpose i will install this inside next to a window to record the front of my house in loop recording. I just need a 24hrs max loop recording. There are some light sources from lamp posts or ill use my from porch turned on. Seems this should be #1 solution with a SD card.
Why thank you!! Just let you they do sell an accessory to stick it inside of a window. I think it sticks it right to the glass. I actually didn't realize they made it until I stumbled upon it at my local microcenter. Here is a link: amzn.to/3BA24oE
After spending hours researching security cameras, I decided on this one. I bought it tonight around 7:45pm, and it's scheduled to be delivered between 4-8am! It's still around $36. in April 2022. Thanks!
@@Fakestockguru Works incredibly well, especially for the price. The hardest part was setting the sensitivity because I'm in a town house community where the road is about 25 feet from the front door- It was alerting me every 30 seconds, lol.
To get the best person image, what is the recommended ft distance to have the camera mounted? Mine is in my back driveway outside my kitchen window. It's plugged in my house and has some shelter beneath the 2nd floor. I have the Cam Plus subscription. Am I covered with some type of Cloud service ? Thank you for your time.
can you watch your live view on your PC? It seems no one mentions this in any review. If yes, how good is it? I have Zmodo and they are horrendous on PC
Thanks for the helpful video. I would run to buy this camera, but the lack of a battery / wireless option is making me be on the fence. I would really like this great, affordable camera with a non-wired installation.
If you are looking for a similar wireless option, they do have the Outdoor Cam. amzn.to/3qJQ9AF this is for the kit which has one battery powered cam and the base station. I have one and installed one at work. I will probably do a review on it now that it has stabilized (it was really buggy at first). As long as you keep the base station and camera close together, it works pretty well. I have an old Ring Stickup cam solar panel on it and it works as good as my other outdoor cameras now.
Thanks for the informative video. I don't have power where I want to mount the cameras. Can you explain the remote power (Cat 5 PoE) setup more fully, please?
If you wanted to power the camera over Poe you would need a micro USB power over ethernet adapter on the camera end and either Poe injector or Poe switch on the other.
I am renting a house and want to install 2-3 cameras, outside/garage, keeping costs down. 1.What is your recommendation on brand/bundle? 2. Same recommendation if i want to limit holes for power? Thanks
I think there isn't any way to turn off the cloud service. If you block the camera from reaching the internet with a firewall rule, then I don't think you get notifications. It will still record to the SD card.
Can you do continuous recording to sd card while also using the cloud event captures? Would be convenient so you don't miss out on anything important but also have quick access for most things via the app/cloud.
Yes they are independent. You can set it to record 100% of the video straight to the SD card while also uploading the motion events to the cloud. But just remember the person events in the cloud are limited to the 12 seconds unless you have the Plus subscription.
Good review, watching as I am just setting up my first v3, have had four Wyze v2's for years. Question: at 11:13, you say you'd like to have the option to "record the whole event to the onboard SD card." I have not used Cam Plus, so I only see the 12-second preview online, but the onboard SD cards in my v2 cams records as long as there is movement, and then no cool off period, will record all movement again right away. Is this not how it works on v3? I suppose I'll find out before you would get a chance to respond, but maybe you misspoke there
You can set the camera to either record just events (motion / sound) to to the SD card. Or you can set it to continuously record to the SD. Neither requires cam plus. I believe you can only retrieve this footage if you are connected to the same wifi network as your camera.
I have the version too and when I went to buy the version 3 for some reason I was able to see outside better with my version 2 so I returned the version 3. I have the window mount and I compared both of them and version 2 was way better for seeing through a window. Unless I was sent to defective version 3 I would choose the version 2
Great Video. Did you ever make the video on the Outdoor Wyze (with 2 month battery) that you were testing? I couldn't find the video on your channel. If not, it's all good. Thanks for making the world a better place :-)
Thank you! I have the hardware and a good reason to do it. Just waiting for a warm day. But I just received the new OGs and Pan 3 so I really need to get some Wyze videos out!!! Thanks for watching!
Question on this camera... I just sent back the wireless outdoor camera because the app didn't have the view playback button on live view even after calling support the view play back isn't available ... The v2 with sd card has it... Does this v3 camera have view playback button at the bottom of live feed?
Great info! I am looking for a decent surveillance camera to manage remotely, it will be for an Airbnb and I want to make sure I understand which activities I must do on site, as I cannot travel often over there, and understand what activities I can do remotely. Note, I do not have internet yet on this place. Thank you!!
I have a blink camera system and they solely rely on battery. I’m lucky if I get two weeks of battery life so I’d actually prefer plugged into power option! What’s the delay like?
These have to be powered off of AC power. The Outdoor v2s are more equivalent to the Blink. It takes about 5 to 20 seconds to load a camera via the app.
Mine are on house from when I bought house I'm trying to get down from house now trying to take hood off so I can get set up,like my doorbell mine are pretty wired by officer that use to own all mine are v3
Doesl this cam have a port that would allow me to setup a local drive to it or no? Relying on "cloud-only" content for footage larger than say 256GB is a decent short-term solution, not so much for worry-free 30-60day storage. Thanks for the review!
If I install a SD card for 24 7 recording, do I still get motion detection notifications and can I access the videos from my phone? Can I select continuous live view from my phone? Thank you so much for your time!
I read through several comments, but not all, so if my questions may be repeats. 1. I have an older security cam setup that uses "siamese" cables, basically one power cable(5v, I think) and an RCA connection for the video feed. Does someone make an adapter to plug from the power part of the siamese cable to the power connection that this camera has? That would be a big time saver to not have to re-run cables for power. 2. What is the SD car memory capacity limit? Seems most things these days only recognize up to a certain size card. And how much video can be stored on say an X size card, like a 4GB card holds X amount of minutes. 3. How is the video feed orientation handled, is it handled with the app or inside the camera via some kind of switch? Like if you want to hang the camera upside down from a soffit and of course you want the video to be right side up? Thanks in advance. Great video.
Hi @Alan. Thanks for the questions. 1. You are looking for a DC barrel jack to Micro USB converter. Something like this might work: amzn.to/3qfCUYa. Make sure to check the diameter of your barrel jack. 2. Viewers have reported that up to 256 GB works. The official word from Wyze is 32GB, but others have had success at much larger capacities. It looks like most people say you get 2-3 days worth of video (recording 24/7) at HD resolution on a 32GB card. 3. It is handled in the app. There is an option to flip the video 180 degrees in the advanced settings (I think).
Thank you. You are right, I didn't mention the max SD card size. I just looked it up and it sounds like officially it is 32gb. But it sounds like others have gotten 64gb to work by formatting it with a particular app. See: forums.wyzecam.com/t/wyzecam-v3-larger-than-32gb-micro-sd-card/145362/5
It would work you would just need a 12v to 5v converter (a cell phone charger). Are you running off the battery or is it externally powered (alternator or generator). My main concern would be running the battery on the vehicle down.
Can it be used to monitoring and 2-way communication on front door of my house by using the app on my phone? I already have Lorex 4K fusion cameras, but they do not have 2-way communication. So, by using this camera for 2-way communication using the app still be free to use?
Yes you can use the live view and 2 way audio with the camera lite subscription. Really the main restrictions of the lite sub is 5 minutes cool down between event recordings and only 12 second clips. You still have the option of 24/7 recording via the micro SD card.
Will this work with out having wifi. We dont have internet but need camera for our front door packages been leaving, we been having children stealing. I didn't have issue tell this las time
Well, if you had an SD card in it and it was configured, then I would assume you could make it work. But a few things: 1. You have to set it up with wifi to get it connected to the app. 2. You would need to be on wifi to set up the SD card and all day recording. 3. You would need to pull the Sd card to get the video data. 4. I haven't tested this so I would try it before you rely on it.
Great info on this little camera. I was trying to decide between a wired or wireless camera and stumbled on your video. We have a power source outside, but might consider mounting it inside on a window. I would subscribe to Cam Plus for the person-pet-automobile detection capability.
Do you have to be connected to the internet. I have watched a few of these videos but they do not say it. I know some cameras can directly connect on the cellular network.
Now I have not tested it but I think it will work if you: 1. Set up the camera on Wi-Fi (with internet connection). 2. Have SD card installed and set up either motion or 24/7 recording.
Hi .Forgive my ignorance for I'm very new to this.Which one would you recommend to occasionally view a room from your cellphone while away from home.Pretty simple requirement.Have a basement full of collectables and concerned about flooding, though unlikely.Just for peace of mind...would there still be a monthly charge after the trial period? Thanks Pat
I just checked and didn't see an option to limit notification times. You might be able to limit the notification times in your operating system. Are you on Android or iOS?
I'd love to hear back when you test a 'battery' version. I live on 60 acres with a 1/2 mile long driveway. I do have a ring doorbell and do pay the $3 month extra, but at least that runs off battery. I'd order one today if there was a version that didn't require a power source. I'd like to put one of these in a part of my driveway which is not accessible to power. Can I log into this with my phone from a remote location? I may order one to connect to my garage that would give me a better view of the yard. and I would most likely pay the monthly svc fee. (less than ring). I'll be looking forward to your test trials on a battery version.
I have been using the Wyze Outdoor Camera for over a year now. At the beginning, it was buggy (terrible life). But now I have a solar panel on it and it works pretty flawlessly (it is really close to the base station). It should work well for that, especially if you can have the base station close to where you are installing the outdoor camera (like inside, in a room). Yes, you can access it via your home's wifi. The outdoor camera connects to its base station, which connects to your house wifi (or ethernet). I am planning a video (in partnership with Wyze) to replace my Ring cameras (one of which is solar-powered) with the Ourdoor Cams. Stay tuned!
@@ThisSmartHouse thanks. I think I'll wait to see your next video. The way our home is set up - it's very difficult to place a wi-fi hub somewhere that would be OK to catch the signal from outdoors. Maybe they make a good trail cam with color? lol. my ring doorbell works great. not super great at night since it's only b/w. I was tempted to get this one but would need at a minimum 50 ft USB cord and didn't know how the integrity of the connection would be over that length of cord.
If you want to run something that long I would suggest a Poe injector. You can push USB level power over hundreds of feet. I showed an example in my installation video for outdoor cameras.
I only need to use this camera with my home computer. Is a cellphone a required necessity? Any insight into this would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!
Are you wanting to use it as a webcam or just view it on PC? Right now I don't think there is a PC / Mac app, so the only way to view it is via the Android or iOS app. You have a couple of options, one you can install an Android emulator like BlueStacks and install the Wyze app in that. Or you can use an Android app called TinyCam, and use its web server function. I actually show a preview of this in my video that comes out tomorrow.
Of course it rotates the image, but sometimes you want to get two points in the frame. It still works if you are ok with the tilt. Some cameras like the battery powered ones, it will cause issues because it messes with the motion sensing.
Unfortunatly, I don't have any Blink cameras (or have they offered to send me any). But I do have Ring cameras. They are different than the ring as you do get some local recording to the SD card. What are your likes / dislikes about the Blinks?
Can I use this Cam v3 without a iCloud Subscription? ( In other words can I just plug it up and use the camera or will I have to download a app to link it to my phone to be able to use it?) I just really want to use the Cam to be able to see outside my house without having to go outside and I don’t care about saving videos on file.
You do have to use their app to access the camera. But there is no subscription fee for basic access and 12 second recordings. You only have to pay extra if you want longer recording or if you want notifications about person, package, animal detection.
Some cameras can use on-board programming to detect a person instead of just movement. Or they have a free cloud service that can ID a person instead of say a moving bush.
This will not work with the solar panel. The Outdoor (v1 / v2) are comparable with the solar panel. The why not is because this camera is designed to be on AC power 100% of the time. The Outdoor has an onboard battery and can be charged via micro-USB or from the solar panel. Review of the Outdoor v2 coming really soon (just have to install it).
Would this camera record to an sd card without me having internet? Could I just plug it in and have it record to sd or would I have to have home internet. I have android smart phone but no home internet. I would record continuously to sd card. Thanks.
I think it would record fine without internet but you would have to have internet to set it up (I assume). I haven't actually tried setting up a camera on a network without internet. But once it is set up it should record to the SD card if you have set up continuous recording.
Then I would probably set it up at home get it configured and then take it to the other location to set it up. You do have to remember that it is going to overwrite after it fills up the SD card so you'll need to check it periodically.
Have they improved the notifications? A year ago it took almost a minute to send you a movement notification. The blogger was told by Wyze they were fixing it to be only a few seconds
To be honest I don't really use notifications (my house is almost always occupied). I do notice mine seem to come in "batches". So I will get two notifications for my garage when someone leaves.
You can either use a long USB micro cord and place it up high somewhere or use a PoE adapter (I have a video on how to use them: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-ODZnJag8BNs.html). Just put it up high enough so no one can reach the camera and be smart about how you route it to keep the wire hidden. Or you can get the Outdoor Camera v2 and a solar panel. Same camera, but with a battery on board and build to run like that. Review coming soon....
I haven't had my v3 outside in the cold but my v2 has been out for two winters without an issue. So I would assume the v3 would do just as well, as long as you aren't getting crazy cold.
heeeeeeck no this wyze V3 have been disconnecting cant find network or get disconnected shortly after set up be ready to return them if company servers dont correct the problem is gonna be a nightmare dont know what the problem is I tried disconnecting & rebooting and nothing still cant connect or gind the network or shut down streaming absolut disappointment
Great question. The standard v3 does not have color night vision. I believe if you add the spotlight attachment, then you gain color night vision. BUT, the brand new v3 Pro (a.k.a. Wyze Cam Pro) does have an integrated spotlight and color night vision. Look for the review on that coming out NEXT WEEK!
I am not sure if you can set a custom NTP server. Does your router / firewall serve NTP? Can you set up your DHCP server to point devices to your NTP server using option 042? (Sorry if that is gibberish to you 😅)
I’m looking to get this, for the no subscription and recording to SD Card event instead of continuous, will it record whole event or just 12seconds because its on the free tier? And do you know if it’ll only record one event per-5minutes?
If you have the SD card installed it will record 24x7 to the SD card. That video recording is accessible via the app. But you will only get notifications about movement and it will only record to the cloud if you have the subscription. They used to offer a free tier but I honestly don't know if that is still available on the new cameras. That free tier limited you to 12 second recordings with a 5-minute cooldown that were put onto their cloud servers and they would send you notifications.
@@ThisSmartHouse thanks! I’ve bought one from amazon to test it out. Looks like they do still have that “free” tier(they say pay as you want), saw on their website called cam plus lite.
I have the 3 - V3 and one outdoor. They were good for the first month but after the updates the cameras go crazy. The settings change on their own every other week. The cooling off period after recording is terrible, even if you set it for 1 minute it takes 4 to 5. They update software every other week and its annoying! The outdoor camera sometimes drains the battery in 5 minutes after its fully charge. All the cameras have problems fetching almost every other week. Im done with this product I wish I can get money back. The worst thing is that I convinced my family and friends to buy this cameras.
I get a lot of updates on the v3, almost weekly. Haven't had any changes to my settings. Maybe flash RTSP firmware that will stop the updates. They just released the Cam Plus Lite, but I think the cool down is still there. I am concerned they are going to remove the free tier. But I rely on the local SD card recording.
