CLIP DESCRIPTION:
Logan (Hugh Jackman) tangles with locals in a bar as Rogue (Anna Paquin) looks on.
FILM DESCRIPTION:
One of the most popular superhero teams in comic book history finally comes to the screen in this big-budget adaptation of the long-running Marvel Comics series. Psychic Professor Xavier (Patrick Stewart) leads a school of skilled mutants called X-Men, a peacekeeping force to safeguard the world against a race of genetically mutated humans known as Homo Sapiens Superior. However, Magneto (Ian McKellen), a mutant with a powerful magnetic charge, has also begun to organize a team to strike first against what he believes to be a threat from humanity. When he kidnaps Rogue (Anna Paquin) from the X-Men's compound, Xavier and his forces must rescue her, even as they continue to vie with Magneto for the fearsomely strong mutant battler Wolverine (Hugh Jackman). Both Xavier and Magneto also have to contend with Senator Kelly (Bruce Davison), a heartless political leader who wants a final solution against mutants on both sides. Fighting for the forces of virtue with the X-Men are Famke Janssen as Jean Grey, Halle Berry as Storm, and James Marsden as Cyclops; Rebecca Romjin-Stamos as Mystique, Ray Park as the Toad, and Tyler Mane as Sabretooth are the minions of Magneto.

This scene is a great example of what wolverine is. The impression he gave them is if He wanted to he could have taken both there heads off but instead he restrains himself and puts his claws away.
@MrJellyton
@MrJellyton 4 года назад
I think it also has to do with the fact that Rogue was there. She was just a young impressionable kid at this point and Wolverine's restraint shows that mutants aren't monsters. This scene shows that both characters don't want to hurt people despite their mutations that make them extremely dangerous.
@bluepeng8895

No, in general, Wolverine tries to avoid fights because he knows he can kill them. For example in The Wolverine at the end of the fight scene, he could have easily killed Shingen, but he walks away, and only kills him after he impales James in the chest with the sword

This was the moment. In 2000 no comic book movie really had legitimized the "Super Hero" Genre. You had Superman and Batman, but those were huge known quantities well before they were Hollywood films. Blade existed but was more known as a Vampire movie to mass audiences, who didn't understand the significance of that marvel logo. Then Wolverine popped his claws in a bar and sliced a shotgun in half. That was the moment when people saw how freaking cool these characters could be on the big screen. The audience I was in on opening night started CHEERING when they saw the glint off of those Adamantium Claws. It's because of how well this moment worked, and many other moments from this film, that the studios were no longer worried about taking chances on superheroes. Movies started getting greenlit. Here we are, 16 years later and I'm the happiest Nerd Alive.

@r.i.t95

Caleb Mayfield We aren’t really talking about DC here, I don’t think, but yeah they do, but in a way more campy way than more modern films I’d say. DC has pretty much only held the monopoly on their animated stuff. It’s way better overall than what Marvel is doing, but in terms of good live action films spanning over the past 50ish years, I would have to say that Marvel has had more impact in that area.

In the MDb trivia for X-Men it says: Hugh Jackman took ice cold showers every morning of filming, in order to help get into character. This tradition started when jumping into the shower at 5 a.m., before realizing there was no hot water. Shocked awake, but not wanting to wake his sleeping wife, he gritted his teeth and bore it, before realizing that this mindset, wanting to scream and lash out at something, but having to hold it in, was the mentality that Wolverine is in constantly. He then made cold showers his Wolverine preparation routine for each movie featuring the character.

This movie changed our perceptions with it means to be special and have special powers. If it were one man, he'd be a God. If it were a race of people however, people would fear them because people couldn't trust everyone of them. They'd be afraid of what they can do and how they will use their powers. It also creates a level of superiority and inferiority. It's all fine and well that Superman fights bad guys, but what about all those who disagree with him?

1:17 to this day it’s insane how good this looks, while simultaneously showing the degree of control he has over each claw individually. Would have been really easy to just pop all 3 at once, but they instead show a close up of it looking kind of gross lol

The comic live-action film that really brought comic heroes as an essential part of the movie industry in the 21st century. XMEN...... God, I love this movie. It's sooo special to me. I was still a kid when I first saw this in the theaters when it came out, and I remember I was way over the moon after the screening. Now, we have everything, and everyone almost. I can't wait to see the XMEN in the Marvel universe interacting with all the Marvel heroes we know today. It's just sooo exciting!

When Wolverine took out his claws my theater exploded. Some people even got up clapping. But what made this so cool was that he easily could have decapitated the guy with the knife and impaled the guy with the shotgun. Instead he let them live telling them, next time I will.

What does the MCU have anything to do with Fox X-men?
@TheScarletWing2490
@TheScarletWing2490 4 года назад
@@person43 He's probably referring to how this movie pretty much revived the comic book movie / superhero movie genre. After Superman 4 and Batman & Robin, this genre was pretty much dead. But X-Men and Sam Raimi's Spider-Man are what reignited that flame and showed the industry that this genre can work if done right. Yeah, Fox's X-Men aren't a part of the MCU, but you could argue that it, along with Spider-Man, provided the inspiration and motivation needed for the MCU. Also I think that Kevin Feige had some involvement with the first X-Men movie, I think he was an associate producer. Now, of course, you could argue that Blade came out in 1998 and it was great, though it didn't exactly define a template for the genre. First of all, it wasn't really a "Superhero movie". It was a "Vampire movie". Blade's not as recognizable as Spider-Man and Wolverine when it comes to the non comic book readers. He's known for the movies, yeah, but 4/5 people didn't understand how Blade was related to Marvel heroes. And lastly, it still had the usual silly moments that you would find in a superhero movie back then, with over the top theatrics and action. Whereas the first X-Men movie, the first Spider-Man movie, they were made to first and foremost be "movies". The superhero aspect was more of a secondary thing, in the sense of the movies' template and themes. They were real movies with real problems and real consequences, that just happened to have superheroes in them. And that was carried over to the MCU. Shortly put, it's because of X-Men that the Superhero movies became more "human".

I went back to this film last night for the first time since its release. And I must say, its actually a damn good film. Sure some elements are nearly cliche and corny, but for a superhero film made prior to raimais spiderman trilogy (ever film that came after definitely used spiderman as a jumping off point) this is actually really well done. Comic book friendly as much as it can do, decent to great acting. The only problem I have is sabretooth 😂. At least the only thing good about xmen origins wolverine was how they did sabretooth
