"Have you ever tried not being a mutant?" As a gay guy this question of Bobby's mother hit really close to home.

Sebastian Reng Ian mackallen helped Bryan Singer with this Scene both men r gay so that was definitely the intention

I didn't know McKellen was involved in that scene. That's really moving.

And that's why i love X-Men and comics in particular. I love whenever stories can serve as allegories for real world issues. It was really tough watching Bobby's shitty family not accept him. I'd lose my mind if my kid had powers lol.

When I heard the line in the review I thought it was just a little heavy handed and not a great metaphor. I mean, being gay is in the head, being a mutant is in the genes.

Why does everyone keep being all like "I'm probably in a minority here, but I liked Nightcrawler," in this film? People actually hated this film's portrayal of Nightcrawler!!?? The plot makes sense if you've been paying attention to the other movies, it never gets boring and the action is cool. If you're an X-Men fan who isn't a total comic purist, you'll probably enjoy it.

Yes about the X-Men theme! Having listened too all the X-men scores, you can kind of hear a through line. Ottman's theme is developed from Kamen's theme from the first movie. John Powell's theme is a further development, putting it into 6/8 time and stretching it out a bit, but you can still here it. First class completely ditched it - no idea why - and then Ottman brought his version back for DoFP and Apocalypse. Let's hope he's on board for any future instalments if only to keep his great theme!

Honestly I really like X2, but like with the first movie, I never thought they were great films. They were really fun and had a lot of character to it, but I thought the development was pretty mixed in terms of success, especially in X2. There are so many characters in this movie, but I don't see all the development people like Chris see. So many characters are barely utilized, and it's frustrating how much more I wanted from some of these characters. Yes, there are still plenty of standout performances, including Alan Cumming as Nightcrawler, but I just don't think this movie had the balance that the Avengers, or even Days of Future Past had. In the end, X2 is good, but to me it's not the amazing X-Men movie people claim it to be, that honor goes to Days of Future Past. Honestly, I think that is part of the reason why I don't think X3 was that bad, but I digress.

I know commenting on an A vs. an A+ is kind of moot, but I consider this to be an A+ movie. All of the characters are handled so well (although Cyclops was a bit underutilized if I had to nitpick,) and everyone gets at least a scene to really stand out. It is certainly an Empire Strikes Back equivalent in terms of raising the stakes and exploring the lore created from the original, expanding on the characters, having a ton of memorable scenes/lines, improvement on the score, and even ending on a cliffhanger. One of the best comic book movies to date and one of the best sequels to date.

0:50 You've got to be kidding, Chris. These X-Men movies are heavily criticized even by its own fans for constantly sidelining Cyclops. You know, the field leader of the X-Men? All we know about him is that he's Jean's boyfriend, yet she has way more scenes w/ Wolverine.

The first two Xmen films invented the MCU as we know it, and they're some of my favorites! Love the Iceman root beer scene, its funny, cute, and just...normal. Bobby freaked out by his brutal professor is still great.

It's been years since I've seen it, but I seem to recall, on the audio commentary, one of the crew members (it may have been Bryan Singer) was saying how the scene with Bobby and his parents was written similarly to how a child might come out to their parents. I can definitely see where they were coming from, because that's one of my favorite non-action scenes in the movie.

My thoughts on X2 is very similar to my thoughts on The Road Warrior. Both are sequels that are considerably better than the original. X2 is just a lot better at handling a larger cast of characters and has a much stronger script. The action scenes are also quite alot better than the first. The opening scene with Nightcrawler is a standout. In general it does everything much better than its predecessor. The central characters also gets to do much more here except Cyclops ofc, he basically gets captured early on and then appears near the end of the movie only to lose Jean lol. Brian Cox was really good as William Stryker and in general I think Stryker was the best antagonist in these first X-Men movies and acts as a great follow up from the original exploring more of Logan's past. It also gave us the best movie X-Men score. Great movie overall. Also, this movie surprisingly has no Stan Lee cameo.

During filming, Hugh Jackman's sister visited the set. As a joke, she was made-up in Jackman's full Wolverine costume and make-up, and walked around the set. Apparently, she was very convincing as Jackman. Bryan Singer was not aware that it was not Jackman in the Wolverine costume, and commented of her work during shooting that "Hugh is acting very strangely today.

X-Men got me into comics, and is still my favourite comic/superhero series to this day. X2 was the first movie I ever remember getting legitimately excited to see. Especially since Nightcrawler was in it, who was (and still is) my favourite X-Men. I personally found the way they wrote him to be underwhelming now (I find they wrote him overall a bit too serious and didn't play on his fun-loving nature), but as a little kid I was perfectly happy with the portrayal. I never heard anyone complain about him being among the ranks of Jar Jar, so that actually surprises me. Either way, this movie is a huge part of my childhood, and I still enjoy it to this day.

one thing i noticed throughout all the old x men films is that, its more focused on wolverine considering the dude is immortal. Being an immortal of such, his purpose in life is witnessing every event that unfolds with the Xmen. I blazed through all the movies, even the shitty ones, and it just makes the binge watch even better knowing its Wolverine's journey we follow from the beginning to the end. The losses he faces and the new companions he gains. it's also pretty tragic. i hope he gets a good send off in Logan and not get adamantium dumped on him as his last days on earth. Avengers takes action scenes over character development which is one of its failures regardless of the billion dollar box office. It also reveals the mindset of many viewers today for movies.

airricksreloaded the last Stand was not a very good movie at all. But I think the reason people enjoy them, like chris, is because they were fresh and new. First time you really had a group of hero's. Also it's different from the avengers bc these also had deeper meanings unlike a lot of superhero movies today
