FACEBOOK: / chrisstuckmann TWITTER: / chris_stuckmann OFFICIAL SITE: www.chrisstuckm... Chris Stuckmann reviews Dragonball: Evolution, his least favorite movie of all time.
Fun fact: The writer apologized for this movie. He actually admitted that he went into the project chasing after a payday. As of 2020, he hasn’t written another film since.
not to mention he recieved death threats from Dragonball fans because of this movie, which is sad. He deserved better by not writing an adaptation like this
13:55 “He was murdered - - I wiLL avenge him... but BefOre hE- he diEd, He AsKeD me to FiNd YoU - - and to tELL you tHaT... Piccolo has returned.” The delivery of that line made me cringe and laugh my ass off at the same time xD
@@jay-2004 oh, without a doubt. That is one worst-acted scenes ever; up there with, if not worse than some of the moments from The Room (I love The Room because it’s top tier “so bad it’s good” but the acting is some of the worst ever... I’m pretty sure everybody knows that)
@@odwrksboxedtrash3730 If they gave him opportunity to Write and Direct a Dragonball movie in Live action, DO IT!!! It's better than this horrible monstrosity! Wait, though, Hollywood might still mess it up just to make friggin money!
@@sguinn91 I would actually rather watch how Chris Chan fucking directs a Dragon Ball movie just to rub it on the director of this absolute travesty of a mistake. No one asked for Dragon Ball Evolution. No one wanted Dragon Ball Evolution. Even the actors look like they don't want anything to do with Dragon Ball Evolution.
Poor Toriyama. I can't imagine how it must've felt to see something you loved and put your heart and soul into be turned into this lump of useless shit.
Pretty motivating, I guess. As in "I must return, I must bring justice to the world, I must create my own movie, so that people can at least forget about this one."
+Digishade It seems to be one of the reasons we got Battle of Gods and Resurrection F. For that, let's be thankful. And let's hope they never make another live-action adaptation.
I've been a long life Dragonball fan. Always found it hard to accept criticism from my mates who were never into anime to begin with. I remember when this movie came out I couldn't watch it at the cinemas due to personal circumstances so yep, I streamed it online (Thank god). I had my mates come over and just about convinced them to watch this. Little did I know I literally sat through the biggest embarrassment of my life. I was so embarrassed to turn it off halfway because of how much I hyped this movie up to them. One of my mates actually enjoyed it which got me off the hook having that backup, but boy.. the rest slaughtered me like a lamb in a slaughterhouse. They still bring it up till day, attacking my taste in movies. I'm never entrusted with movie recommendations ever again. Thanks for this DBE.
lol one thing I will say is that shit like this actually makes for a great viewing in large social situations like that where you can just sit back and laugh hysterically at how bad the movie is. I actually did this with some friends not that long ago where we watched the Death Note movie on Netflix and even though only one of us had seen the real show we still all laughed our ass off at how bad it was and how it was obviously butchering the original show. But yeah when you hype it up as something great that is certainly something else lmao
Had a massive crush on Emmy Rossum in middle school, lol. Sucks that she was in such an awful film. Also, Justin Chatwin looks like a mix between Aaron Paul and Billie Joe Armstrong.
Is it just me, or does the ending when Chris is destroying all the DBE crap reminded you of Zombieland when everyone was destroying all the knickknacks at that Native American Shop? I was half expecting Chris to look at the camera at the very end, smile & say "Enjoy The Little Things".
Fact: After Akira Toriyama's passing this year, Justin Chatwin, who portrayed Goku in the live-action film "Dragonball Evolution," apologized for the quality of the film by posting on his Instagram story, "sorry we messed up that adaptation so badly." RIP Akira Toriyama ❤️❤️❤️
+sam Pollington I thoght it when i saw a review on an anime, live action adaptation. Then he mentioned the series in the video, and I knew he had to do it!
My friend told me to try a mcchicken hold the mayo, add mac sauce...like, big mac sauce. Thousand island dressing. He said it was a life changing experience. Im writing this from an insane asylum, and yes...I AM Napoleon...Vive la France!

Marek Toman What character development? Goku has basically been the same since the first episode of DB. If anything, both Piccolo and Vegeta have had much more character development than him and are far more interesting (though not as likable). Also, Goku and Vegeta have been the only ones fighting since the biggining of the android saga. Yeah sure, Piccolo got some chances to fight, but he quickly got his ass handed to him and had to wait for Goku to save him. I understand why some people might like Super, but for me it just doesn't cut it. P.S. GT was awesome and anyone who disagrees didn't bother to see it through to the end.
Toriyama was indeed very offended at this film because they literally ignored him and didn't even consult him at all. Thats why he returned to make modifications to Yusuke Watanabe's original script for Battle of Gods.
Alucard, More Awesome Than Chuck Norris Pretty sure you need to know the source material or your doomed to make a awful movie that is unfaithful to the source material.
As much as I miss this Chris, it doesn't mean you should unsub, but maybe try and understand things from his perspective, maybe? Not saying you HAVE to accept this "New Chris", but he's still slightly the same. But I don't blame you for feeling like Chris has betrayed the fans. Believe me, I feel the same. Like we've been betrayed by a good friend. But it doesn't mean Chris isn't still a good guy, it just means he's stopped doing both Hilariocities and stopped reviewing bad movies. Believe me, I've lost a ton of respect for him, but not enough to unsub, just enough to wonder why he's doing all this. I know he wants to make that film and become a filmmaker, and follow his dreams, ok, nothing wrong there. But couldn't you have kept reviewing bad movies in Hilariocity form, and kept doing worst movies of the year lists? You were so entertaining and great at these, dude! Everyone loved them! I don't see why he couldn't have just taken time off from doing these, to focus on this supposed movie...I mean, look at the AVGN. A decade ago, he got a movie. He played himself, in a hollywood movie based on his show. It had a stupid premise sure, about the conspiracy theory behind the ET Atari game being buried in the New Mexican desert, and an episode dedicated to it. He was STILL able to go back and do his show AND do this movie. Sure it flopped hard, but at least James can say he did a movie WITHOUT having to sell out. He did things the way HE wanted, NOT the way they wanted HIM to do it. And while it was a failure, he was able to come back, and keep doing his show, without compromising it or the fans. Chris, if he could do it, I don't see why you couldn't have as well... It didn't seem that hard. Or do the fans suddenly not mean much to you now? I still respect you as a reviewer, but have lost tons of respect for you though, dude. Oh and also, the guy's name was Akira Toriyama, not Akita. But by the way, I agree with you regardless though. Because Dragon Ball Z was the very first manga I ever read as a kid. Sure, it was while it was still running in Shonen Jump, during the Namek Arc, where Goku was just brought back to life by the Dragon Balls, and took off on his ship to Namek to stop Frieza. I had to go back awhile and read the last chapters before that part with Bulma, Krillin, and Gohan, taking off on the ship that brought Kami to earth, when he was a child, and was modified into the Capsule Corp. ship so they could all go to Namek to find the Dragon Balls to bring back: Tienshinhan, Yamcha, Chiaotzu, Piccolo, and Kami, who'd all unfortunately died in the fight with Nappa and Vegeta, and the people Nappa kills when him and Vegeta first land in a city. But yes, I agree, a sincere, heartfelt thanks to Akira Toriyama, for everything he'd done for us over the course of his amazingly legendary life and career. From designing how the characters and monsters looked in EVERY single Dragon Quest game(yes, Toriyama was part of the original 3 person team who helped make Dragon Quest what it would be), along with Chrono Trigger, as well. He left behind an amazing legacy that has inspired millions and millions of people around the world, and we'll never forget that. And we got arguably the BEST Dragon Ball game ever made, Dragon Ball FighterZ, so, don't be sad about this, just remember what he gave us, and never forget about it. And always keep it close to your heart, like the way Goku kept the 4 Star Dragon Ball close to him, because it was his Grandpa's prized possession. And by that I mean, he helped put it on a hat for his son.
I remember when me and my best friend first heard about dragonball evolution, we got so insanely hype. When I finally saw this movie, goku flying toward piccolo doing that horrible looking one handed kamehameha severely pissed me off and completely turned me off to this shit and pissed off my Best friend. It was such an insult cause we grew up idolizing dragonball
So the kamehameha scene was when you got pissed? Man when I watched this movie back on the day half way through the movies I was disappointed, couldn’t recognize ANY character, only Goku and Master Roshi, was expecting to see Vegeta or Freezer or I don’t know someone! And when they finally showed piccolo I was like “who the hell is that supposed to be?” 🤦🏾♂️
Imo, the show isn't that great. I respect its influence on the genre as well as Toriyama, but the long, drawn out battles, cyclic storytelling and CONSTANT power-ups made the show unwatchable for me. Movie's shit, though. No arguments there
Dragon Ball Evolution gave me cancer. My doctor told me to watch The Lord of the Rings Trilogy extended version on blu ray. And then, 10 hours later..I was healed from the hideous cancer.
@Troy Krentz Not really man, Dragon Ball isn't some kind of masterpiece. It's fun, and I have a lot of nostalgia for it, but to act like Dragon Ball or DBZ are very great shows or manga is just not true. They have a lot of things holding them back from being well written, paced, set up, acted... that's just a few things off the top of my head. I don't think it needs to get picked apart or criticized really. The point is, Evolution sucks so hard that it makes DBZ look like an actual masterpiece.
darksean94 All of the problems most people say Super had were present in Z and even DB. Most people point to art/animation(which even got fixed later on, apart from screenshots of in-between frames), power scaling, and writing. All of which were issues that can be plainly seen in the older shows. Remember when Goku became 33 times stronger just by being shoved into a healing tank? So when people say Super was _astronomically_ worse than Z, I assume they either never watched DB or Z, or are just jumping on the bandwagon and never actually watched Super apart from clips of episode 5.
@@conspiracycornerpodcast4302 like dey followed the f***in movie but im glad vegeta not in it caus i would hav died seein ma fav characters gettin bumraped

+Kristen ingram It gets worse they're actually planning on making a sequel to this clusterfuck of a movie. And I think they're going to set the story in the Androids Saga. TAT;;;
I know Chris doesn’t like to do negative reviews anymore but God he’s so good at it and it’s so funny. I wish he would reconsider, but I’ll be watching either way because I love his personality.
I think he realises how hard it is to make a feature length film now and can understand how somebody shitting on it can hurt. He also obviously doesn’t want to actively insult other films in the industry he wants to work in.
Dragonball evolution is a bad movie but it's not the worst movie i've seen that would be The Last Airbender. I'm suprised that Chris thinks that Dragonball Evolution is worse than The Last Airbender not saying there's anything wrong with that. Last Airbender in my opinion is worse than Dragonball evolution or any other bad movie. No movie will ever be worse than The Last Airbender
@@josefengelhardt2767 DBE is far worse than Shamalan's TLA. There was a crappy Dragon Ball's live action adaption made by Taiwan company in late 80s and believe me it was still way much better than DBE.
Here's a legitimate complaint: He said Goku only fought to protect those he loves. This is wrong. Goku can't stand to see people getting bullied but at the same time, the main reason he fights is because he loves to fight and surpass his limits. He's not a generic hero archetype.
@@arctorusmedia I think he was more on about how goku only kills to protect those he loves as he's generally merciful, only people he's actually killed are kid buu and frieza in RoF and that's because of absolute necessity, although he does love fighting like ya said due to his saiyan genes and need to surpass his own limits time and again
Since Chris said he did two reviews of this god-awful atrocity and he didn’t like the quality of the previous reviews of them, so he wanted to go and remake the review with better quality and showing us more information about why this movie sucks. And that included forcing himself to watch it again for the last time. Can you imagine how torturous it must have been for him? But at least he will never have to see this abomination ever again for the rest of his life.
@@logandexter931 I feel he made himself look like a hypocrite. If you don't like a movie immediately after watching it you kind of just ignore it and forget about it forever. The fact Chris bought so much merchandise for what reason exactly? I think he at one point had a hard on for the movie
@@logandexter931 Yeah but why bother buying it just to then destroy it and set fire to it. There would have been some kid out there that would have liked that stuff. He should have donated it.
He's miscast, especially if he can't do martial arts/ stunts, which are a major part of the character "Goku". The fight scenes aren't very good.. they vary between cheesy and silly..Yuen woo ping ,or another fight choreography master should've been employed..
Im a big James Marsters fan and I agree that he was the only decent thing about this movie, James comes from the theater so he's a very good character actor. A few fun facts that James himself said: He was kinda conned into doing this film in a way. He was told it was a big budget movie with a good director. He showed up to the location in the middle of the desert to find out it was a 30 million dollar picture with a relatively unknown director. But heres the kicker, James also said that originally they made Picolo pink. One day he pulled the director aside and basically said that the fans would eat them alive if they didnt make him green. So they changed the colour of the makeup and digitally turned the already filmed footage of him to green
There's no hilariousness to this. This movie was awful from the beginning credits to the ending credits. I have no idea why Obama hasn't outlawed this movie yet.
@Fake Account LMAO Are you for real? Referring to asians as "yellow" is just highly offensively racist and pure nonsense as no asian character needs to be "yellow" to be asian. Grow up and wise up as what you're saying is pure nonsense.
Screw that! The actor failed as Piccolo. They made that antagonists into the bastard son of Darth Vader from Star Wars and Dorian Tyrell from The Mask while on a budget that's tight enough to not give the character any son.
No one could play any of these roles well. The direction they got was shit, so their performances were poor. I'm certain that any other actors they would've gotten would be just as bad trying to play these characters with this writing.
He wasnt a fan from the start, but got the role did his research, liked it, and became a fan. But even that couldnt help the movie. I do recall hearing that this is the reason Piccolo is actually green in the movie, wasnt originally supposed to be...
The whole thing of Goku being "a pacifist who only fights to protect his loved ones" is something invented entirely by the original English dub when the company distributing the show in America wanted Goku to be more traditional hero. In the original manga and Japanese version of the anime, Goku loves to fight just to test his limits and get stronger. Granted, he doesn't fight random people just for the hell of it nor would he get any satisfaction from beating up some bullies he knows are weaker than him, but I would hardly call him a pacifist.
I was thinking the same thing. He's only similar to superman in terms of power level. It's debatable that goku held back against cell, but he mostly definitely held back against vegeta round 2. He's against evil, but he loves testing himself against them. It's really fun to him.
+jim bob hi. please don't compare Goku to superman... it hurts my ears and its kinda blasphemy... For the record, I'm pretty sure Goku would win hands down.... cheers.
+hoosna eydatoula The problem with this Superman vs Goku things is that there are too many versions of Superman, and I asure you some versions of Superman are capable of destroying the universe itself.
Praveen Sharma yeah he bought it just to insult..but still he bought it...he pays...the director don't give a fuck what u do with the movie they just wanted the money..and they got it
Solid Fisher I fucking hate this movie, Vegeta surely would fucking hate this movie. They ruined Piccolo, Bulma, Chi-Chi and most of all they ruined Goku, the main fucking character, so imagine what they would do to Vegeta.

Wow. Watching this review again and it dawned on me that the main problem with the Death Note movie is the same problem with DBE. They made the main characters angsty teens that are trying to impress a girl. In truth, girls were at the bottom of the list (if on the list at all) of the motivations driving the main characters of the original manga.
boredmonkee Death Note’s movie wasn’t nearly as awful as people say. I really don’t think you want a repeat of the same story as the anime. Obviously it was more Westernized than it should have been, but it’s a decent introduction. Characters aren’t completely dumb, (completely being the keyword) and it didn’t unnecessarily try to stick to a PG-13 rating.
Which is the opposite of what Japanese teen actually do, and thats why it makes sense. The authors dont wanna perpetuate that very bad trait of Japanese males cos it causes a lot of harm to men there.
