X-Men 97 1x2 Reaction | Mutant Liberation Begins 

That Magneto speech is the stuff of legends.

You will absolutely bawl your eyes out as this show goes on. Magneto's speech is top tier. "It does not ask you to love my kind as your own. But merely to accept that this is a shared world.... and that my people.... have the right to live in it." It works so well because it's still so relevant.

Don’t worry about not knowing things. At one level, the show is written like a shorthand for mega fans who have read the comics, so lots of obvious Easter eggs to things in the comics are portrayed. On the other hand, the show doesn’t need you to know any of that stuff, it’ll all get explained in the show itself. It strikes really good balance

Just based on your thoughts before and after the episode - and without spoiling anything specific whatsoever - you are 100% on this show's wavelength, and you're going to LOVE the rest of the season.

Forget being the Master of Magnetism, Magneto is clearly the Master of Monologues.

One thing to keep in mind is that X-Men animated tends to borrow, combine, and streamline storylines from different eras of X-Men and its spin-offs spanning the last 40 years. So when you say "did this happen in the comics?" the answer is usually "yes, but not really like that."

I really love how Morph is the ultimate Cameo charachter and the writers can have him turn into whatever cool mutant they want from the absolutely massive X-men roster at any time. Also Logan's reaction to Jean going into labor might be the most Logan thing he has ever done.

Mutant powers typically don't manifest until puberty so the baby wouldn't exhibit any abilities.

All of Scott's and Jean's children are omega level. They have no chill.

Magneto in this series is the ultimate embodiment of "you may not agree with him, but you can't say he's wrong".

The rogue and magneto thing isn’t talked about in any of the movies or shows, they somewhat had a thing in like the 80’s or 90’s comics. This show doesn’t expect you to watch/know anything before really, they explain everything pretty well don’t worry!

1. "X-Men (1992)" and "X-Men '97" are a continuous story, with '97 picking up 6-12 months after the series finale of '92. 2. Bishop was a recurring guest star in "X-Men '92" and had long hair. He's also featured in "X-Men: Days of Future Past" in the Fox Universe, where Kitty Pryde (Shadowcat) sends him back in time several hours to a couple days to warn of the Sentinels' arrival. 3. The Fox X-Men movies, while very good, differ in several ways from the comics. This is neither good nor bad, it just is. The stories in '92 and '97 are closer to the original comics. Many storylines in both '92 and '97 are inspired by the comics, especially from the '80s and '90s. For example: a. Raven Darkholme (Mystique) is Kurt Wagner's (Nightcrawler) mother. This has since been retconned to have her be his father. b. Rogue was initially introduced as a villain fighting the Avengers. As I recall, she was a member of the "Brotherhood of Evil Mutants" at the time. c. The original Uncanny X-Men team in the comics (1963) consisted of Scott Summers (Cyclops), Jean Grey (Marvel Girl), Henry "Hank" McCoy (Beast), Warren Worthington III (Angel), Bobby Drake (Iceman), and Professor Xavier. 4. The following from this episode are all things that were telegraphed from the comics: Magneto's costume change, Rogue's history with Magneto, Storm losing her powers, the birth of Nathan Summers, and the second Jean Grey. 5. Tissues will absolutely be required for the upcoming episodes. *Spoiler Alert: Finale of "X-Men '92" - "Graduation Day" and the fate of Charles Xavier: 6. At a press conference, Henry Gyrich pushes a 'Mutant Containment Bill' and shoots Professor X with an energy disruptor, putting him in a coma. The X-Men struggle to find help, contacting Moira MacTaggert and considering Xavier's interstellar soulmate, Lilandra, Empress of the Shi'ar, but they can't reach her. Mutant uprisings spread, and Magneto is chosen to lead the mutants. After a fight, Magneto helps the X-Men contact Lilandra by supercharging Xavier's mental link with her. Lilandra takes Xavier for Shi'ar care, leaving the X-Men and Magneto on Earth, with the expectation that Xavier will never return.

The writing is so incredible, the writers really outdid themselves with this series.

I love how regardless of their differences of opinion, magneto was really hurt by what they did to storm! Really showed his good side

In the comics, Rogue and Magento were an item together. What you’re seeing is not “new” or just “made up.” You’ve just never heard of it due to them never clarifying beforehand. But yes, they were together at some point.

I don't think that Magneto is a trickster villain, but one that humanity prove him right about the dream of coexistence. They will further explore Magneto/Rogue, and keep that ominous premonition in mind. This is such an incredible season of television, in general, with this sequel series to that amazing 90s series that is so beloved.

I watched this multiple times by now and Wolverine's "Who, Apocalypse" followed by "Oh, crap" always gets me 😅

There's a reactor called Storm Akima reboot and her guest reactor or cohost said her daughter was weeping at this, and kept asking her if Storm would be okay. She (as a comic fan would only expect Storm to pull through.) She told her daughter not to worry, she'll be okay.

Hey since you've mentioned fallout shelter a few times, I just wanted to say if you wanted to know, that dramatic dun dun dun sound that happens randomly is a hidden npc in a trenchcoat called the mysterious stranger that you can click on but only for a bit over ten seconds. When you do he drops caps and disappears. Another musical note indicates he's left.

I really need a "Magneto was right" t-shirt. I always loved that it was actually an artefact in the game "Marvel Heroes", and i still miss that game 😢😭

Magneto and Rogue had a thing for awhile in the comics, so that is what they were referring to. It happened when they were stranded together in a primitive jungle called the savage land

At the end when you talked about what you expected Scott and Jean's baby's birth to be like, I felt like you were describing Homelander being born lmao

The Rogue/Magneto thing was not introduced in the X-Men Animated Series, and is not something the average viewer would know, so don't feel left out and just treat it as new information. It is instead referring to a time they spent together in the comics, and will be explored more in the show going forward.

When the two episode premiere happened after the first episode I was like wow thats really good. The 2nd episode just absolutely blew my mind. To have that epic a climax with Magneto and the UN within 1hr of tv was masterful. There are shows that spend entire seasons reaching for those heights only to fall short and its only a taste. The season is unbelievably good. Small nitpicks here and there but overall just incredible.

The writing in this show is probably one of the best that I've seen in an Marvel audiovisual product. Magneto has some incredible lines during the series.

"I need more! MORE!" Yeah, that was my refrain every week when I watched this amazing season.

Charles was playing 4D chess by making Magneto the leader of the X Men. 1) The X Men gets to keep a close watch over him 2) Magneto is guilt tripped into living up to Charles' legacy 3) Scott and Jean gets to live their own life 4) Magneto is better at keeping Logan in check than Scott ever could

This is such an amazing show, and the speeches are 100% on point and beautifully written, and you've only just started!

In the comics Rogue and Magneto where stranded in the Savage lands and developed a romantic relationship but it was more of a fling that ended once she is reminded of his villainous side when he kills the leader of the inhabitants Zaladane. Their relationship is explored and expanded later in other alternate realities such as the Age of Apocalypse where Xavier died before forming the X-men and Apocalypse took over the world. In this realy they have a son name Charles.

I believed Magneto when he first arrived. Charles and Erik may have fought each other in the past, but every version of the X-Men you can tell they were friends once. Their time in the Savage Lands from the 90s series showed how close they were. Even stripped of their powers they risked their lives for each other. If anything could get Magneto to change, then it would be Charles's death.

Magneto and Rogue have a history in the comics. And Rogue was originally a villain. She drained out Captain Marvel's power, and that's why she flies and has super strength.

Here's a little catch-up. The comics Rogue is quite different from the movie Rogue. In the comics, Rogue was adopted and raised by Mystique, who is the parent of Nightcrawler, making them siblings. Also, the relationship between Rogue and Magneto is new to us, never having been mentioned in the show.

As spectacular as this episode is, there is an upcoming episode that is among the best single episodes of a television series I've ever seen. The second it ends, you'll know which one I mean. Omega Level Series.

Asteroid M was Magneto's original base when he was leading The Brotherhood of Evil Mutants. Things were a bit more... on the nose back then.

This series was so incredibly good, beyond the nostalgia, the amount of heart in the writing, it’s just cathartically satisfying, even when breaking our hearts. I wish the MCU had this level of storytelling. It would be much better for it.

Asteroid M was supposed to be Magnetos mutant safe haven from humans in earth orbit, but was shot down in the end and seems to have fallen into the ocean.

In relation to your questions about the animated series: The old show did give us Asteroid M, Magneto building a base in orbit, because of course he did. The old show did not give us Rogue/Magneto, though it did give us flashbacks reminding us who she was raised by/worked with before the X-Men. There's a lot of stuff in this season that comes straight from the books. They didn't go into Rogue and Magneto's relationship in the original cartoon so you can't be blamed for not recognizing it. Also mutants aren't always guaranteed to give birth to other mutants. Sabretooth and Mystique gave birth to a normal human.

Pay attention ti the intro every episode, theres always something different. And very interesting to watch. When Storm was frightened of lightning when before she could sense it or cause it, brought me to tears. Mutants usually get their powers at puberty, but some are born with physical differences. I've seen it said already but the Rogue and Magneto stuff is very much a comic thing that they've bought into the show. There's actually a lot of comic stuff in this first season which I won't go into but very, very much appreciate as a comic book nerd. It's obvious that the writers are fans of the books just as much as they are the 90s cartoon

You are in for a rollarcoaster ride with this show.

The dialogue in this show is rock solid. At certain points touches the truly special. But Magneto gets some of the best. This is my favorite super hero soap opera in ages. Asteroid M was featured in the original show run. It sort of became Magneto's own independent mutant nation. Of course things went all arch and became more an orbiting base for his mutant crew.

From a comics perspective, this episode gave us the Trial of Magneto from Uncanny X-men #200 from 1985, it introduced Lifedeath AND Inferno, and threw in a taste of X-Cutioner’s Song…WHILE giving us some of the best Magneto dialogue ever written. This didn’t end up being my favorite or even second favorite ep of this season, but this was the ep where I realized this show was going to be the best thing Marvel has done in *years* ❤️

I loved the first episode but this episode made me understand that this was going to be the top tier of x men content outside of the comics. Get ready for the very best of X-Men

most mutants develop their powers at puberty, it's one of the many reasons people fear mutants. there are mutants that have killed people they love, their families, and even a whole town in one instance when their powers awaken. cyclops has to use ruby quarts glasses to hold back his power because of head trauma as a kid, he has no control over his powers. it's why he obsesses about leading, it's his need to "control" every other factor.

The opening credits changing doesn’t end with just the name tags; there are new other scenes too, related in some way to the story of each episode. If you think this episode is giving you a taste of the adventure to come… You aren’t ready. That’s all I will say.

It might be worth either straight up watching the XMen Animated Series (92-96) or finding a recap. You can see Charles and Magnus rekindled bromance and why Charles starts of 97 MIA. X-Men 97 picks up almost after the 92-96 animation!

This show is what it FEELS like to read a comic. It has so many great moments, both small and large, that are beautiful and powerful. Multiple speeches that are fundamental to emotional connection. The many important moments we get seeing how the X-Men were intended to represent all of the real-world minorities and how complex and different all of the viewpoints are. It's beautiful, and scary, and most importantly... Important. It's so *important* to see this world and all of it's peoples as one, and this show has done such a stellar job at making that point as necessary as they could make it

K, thing you need to know from the comics and tv show to be able to follow along with 97: When Rogue ran away from home, she was found by Mystique and joined the Brotherhood. It wasn’t until she met Gambit that she joined the xmen. Once she was with the xmen, they found out that Nightcrawler’s absentee mother is Mystique. The two see each other as siblings.

I was really into xmen comics and this show as a kid in elementary school. Magneto and Rogue was a thing back then, since only he could actually safely touch her because of *mumble* *mumble* electro *mumble*. As a fifth grader i was absolutely fascinated by the idea of them together. I love how earnest and sincere this show is, after a decade of MCU jokey one liners. Like, you could never have that magneto speech in a marvel movie these days without someone turning to camera and doing a "well THAT just happened" type bs.

The Rogue Magneto thing was more references to the comics where they had a thing, nothing from this series or the 90s one
