For real, the last scene where Rogue is carrying Gambit’s body, saying “I can’t feel you“ really made me tear up. The idea of the first and last touch she could ever have with him but only with his dead body.

I screamed in shock when Remy was caught by the Sentinel… I was not emotionally prepared for this episode 😣

This episode is crazy, a marginalized group being attacked while not bothering ANYONE. The scenario has played out in the real world so many times. the second half of this episode is so heartbreaking.

The name of the Sentinel is Wild Sentinel, and in the comics, it was built out of junk and sent to the island to kill all mutants...

They are taking inspiration from the "E for Extinction" storyline from 2001. During that story a giant Sentinel attacks Genosha killing all 6 million inhabitants of the island. The majority mutants along with any humans that were on the island at the time as well.

You can see outline of The Watcher in the night sky right before everything goes off the rails.

And this is where Remy the scoundrel became Gambit the hero, and why he’s one of the most powerful mutants on earth.

I was in shock. What did Magneto say in German? There wasnt a scene that showed he was dead. Yes, the Sentinel said it… Perhaps him & Leech and others were vaporized or pushed further into the ground but protected? They captured Magneto’s emotional PTSD from concentration camps, they also captured Jean’s first hand perspective of being in disaster, thru her eyes , I felt it. What signified the use differences in Green vs Red plasma blast? Gambits charge of body / Fall of the House of X “One last trick” / Rise of the Powers of X #1?

The episode was phenomenal. Looks like we really needed that “breathing space” from Episode four to truly let us have it with Episode five. This was so, so heartbreaking. We went from Video game shenanigans last week to literal genocide. I have no idea how they are going to top this. There are five episodes left. I can’t bloody wait to see how this turns out!

I cried so much and still am not ok with this episode. No way that both of Rogues loves are dead. Cable needs to come back just a bit earlier to hopefully prevent this genocide. OMG I'm without words

Professor X's statue falling is definitely symbolic. There will be no more attempts at peace and coexistence after this.

This episode is loosely based on "E is for Extinction" by Grant Morrison, a large "wild Sentinel" is sent to the island (by a villain who may appear in this show) and 16 million mutants are killed. The show is adding a possible time element (Cable) so it may be reversed. In the comics the event was not reversed but some mutants did survive.

Scott’s put in an impossible position. He’s not technically cheating on Jean, he was in love with, married, and had a child with Jean. None of them knew she wasn’t the real one, not even Maddie herself. It’s the same person. Jean is justifiably angry, but surely she can’t blame Scott for feeling conflicted about his feelings for literally herself. Maddie isn’t any other random woman - Maddie *_is_* Jean. In the comics, Scott was having an affair with Emma Frost, so they swapped out Emma for Maddie, as it makes more sense here.

Honey! Its the original. This is where avengers endgame got the script. This is like a focal point in the xmen verse. Its called the hell fire gala. Its the shit! that kicks off the shit! The mutant death toll is not quite expressed in a number but its a chunk. When professor x dies many mutants move to genoshia. Most of them have now died. One thing many people miss is when the fire works start at the beginning of the gala. You can see a dudes outline in the stars. He is called the watcher (cosmic force) he arrives to over see major events. The only hole we have is that cabel fixes this whole situation with time travel..... but maybe they will lean into Scott's anger and go Phoenix story line. In the comics instead of madaline prior its emma frost he dose the phychic dirty with. So its interesting how they have framed this because as much of a homage to the comics this is, they have so many directions to go in and im living for every second. We need more. I hope they are making season 2 as we speak

I just know Cable will come back again and this time he will be able to help, there's no way they will kill off gambit AND magneto, disney's got dolls and merch to sell!

I think Magneto gives Gambit shyt because I think Gambit reminds him of his son Pietro A.K.A "Quicksilver" Wolverine And The X-men animated series version of Quicksilver is a prime example.

Before and after the events of this particular episode The least humanity deserves in the context of this episode is what Cyclops Because even that is leagues better then what mutantkids have been subjected too

They really played in our faces with this episode. I thought Genosha would last a bit more. I wasn't ready for how intense it was. Truth is that no one is ready when hate crimes happen like and they portrayed it like it is.

this episode was EVERYTHING 🔥.. also, this does happen in the comics. a sentinel was sent to kill millions of mutants on genosha by an evil twin of professor x, cassandra nova. it was wild reading, but to see it in action had me shook tbh.

People forget that Nightcrawler and Rogue are _siblings._ So it was wonderful to see them spend time together, for the brief amount of time they did… EDIT: 4:20 Miss Valerie - Kurt is a deeply religious Catholic. So he weaves a lot of religious sentiment in his words. I’m not a religious person, but I like how despite being depicted as “the other” - mutants are also used to give representation to different religions and show respect and dignity to them, where most people would think being a mutant/other-allegory would put that in direct competition with a concept like religion. It’s a nice touch. :)

The episode is great because the first half is just a lot of petty personal drama. Stuff that seems really important at the time. But it sets how unimportant all that really is once Genosha is destroyed. The Scott/Jean/Madelyne/Wolverine love rectangle just doesn’t matter. And the Gambit/Rogue/Magneto love triangle has two of the points killed on screen. None of it mattered. This episode is based on the storyline "E is for Extinction" where Charles Xavier's sister, Cassandra Nova, send Sentinels to commit genocide on Genosha and they kill 16 million people.

I’ve always figured rogues powers were incomplete. Like she should be something like bishop with an ability to redirect the energy she’s absorbed. Ie she I think should be able to revive gambit with the touch she was afraid would kill him. This is trauma enough to reveal that next level of her powers.

I never got why Rogue can’t just use one of those mutant collars that take your powers away & wear that whenever she wants to touch gambit or have Beast invent something that will. But damn! I don’t know about humiliation, but Cyke is a total sub. He is a leader 24/7 and responsible for the lives of an entire team along with civilians. It has got to be tiring. Considering he has a thing for telepaths, who have the powers to force their way into minds and control them, he has to be more than okay with being the less dominant one in the relationship.

The powerful sentinel we saw in episode 5 is called a WILD SENTINEL. And this is the reason why I believe the villain responsible for the attack in Genosha is none other than the freakin powerful CASSANDRA NOVA. Cassandra used Bolivar Trask's son Donald to access the wild sentinels inorder to use them to wipe out all of mutantkind in the universe. It's based on the storyline E is for Extinction (X-Men #114-120). The appearance of Cable in this episode only confirms this is the direction they're going. It also ties in with Storm's Life-Death story wherein Storm, Forge and the alien Roma tangle with the Shadow King's evil incarnate on Earth 616, the Adversary. Roma & Cassandra Nova are sworn enemies. Roma will be the one who will resurrect the dead mutants in Genosha including Magneto. Gambit on the other hand will be resurrected by Apocalypse in a later timeline. After episode 5, X-Men 97 writers said that they're just warming up. Brace yourself, luv. It's about to get even crazier.

It's been a week and I'm still not over my baby Remy's death. I watched this show for Rogue & Gambit and if he's not back by the end of this season, I'm out.

This seems to be a combination of the Krajkoa era and E for Extinction where 6million mutants were killed on Genosha. And also we might even get Militant Cyclops (the one who eventually gets the phoenix force and kills Xavier)

This episode was covering something that happened in the early 2000s with the Hellfire Gala and the massacre of millions of mutants.

Its 1997. I believe it was the show runner who said this genocide at genosha is meant to be this universes 9/11. Nothing will be the same after this. The innocence of past is gone.

This could be the event that leads to days of future past and maybe cable was trying to prevent it. That was a great design for the Tri-sentinel . Mind blown by this episode. X-Men 97 is the first time We are truly getting X-Men from the comics. that’s why I couldn’t stand those movies

I'm not gonna lie... this episode hit me really hard. Gambit was a huge part of my sexual awakening and seeing him go out like the hero he is hit all that much harder.

They foreshadowed the mutant massacre in the first episode when Jean/ Madelyn probed Henry Gyrich mind and Dr Valarie Cooper is definitely Mystique Rogue mother

This episode is a masterpiece and a masterclass in gutpunching your audience while keeping the quality at top tier. ❤😢

Xmen 97 EPISODE 5 ,🙆🙆🙆🙆😳😳🙇🙇 Let this be a testament that woke writers can also give brilliantly captivating blissfully enjoyable writing. Folks were hating HARD on Beau Demayo for being gay. Major props to BEAU DEMAYO's brilliant writing of this X-men 97 eps 1-5 so far.

I got intel. This episode is based off of E for Extinction. Cassandra Nova was to blame for this. Cable showing up and the introduction of Wild Sentinels confirms this was an alternate timeline. So Gambit most likely will be back at some point.
