I've watched so many reactions to this episode because none of my friends really appreciate the X-Men. But every time I do, I cry every single time. This episode is so devastatingly powerful
Haha I'm watching a bunch of reaction videos of the episode too! Not sure why. I never do that. It was so emotionally powerful and devastating, yeah... Best tv moment ever.
Here to agree agree and agree. I’ve been binging reactions today, and this is after episode 10 haha. But I still, every single time, tear up at episode 5. Great reaction and loved how in depth you guys got on this!!
Did anyone else notice the slight reference to Schindler's List when Oskar Schindler was lamenting that he could have saved more people from the Nazi camps. Magneto being a Jewish Nazi survivor himself, it makes so much sense.
In chess, a gambit is a sacrifice to gain an advantage usually to protect and advance the queen. In this case Gambit made the ultimate sacrifice. A very poetic symbolism. A bittersweet moment. That is why this episode for me cuts deep and now you know why he is my favorite X-Men and even my favorite Marvel character of all time.
I'm obsessed with watching people react to this episode. It's so devastating, everyone has the same emotional, completely shocked reaction to that ending. One of the greatest episodes of tv ever made, and I'll fight people over it.
@@dragonrune6800 Nah, there would have been a bit more panic in nightcrawlers voice and we see him later trying to figure out how to save the other mutants so he was busy
Gambit sacrificed himself without knowing that Rogue choosed him in the end. The only thing missing at my advice, is the godzilla sentinel saying "omega level mutant detected" before exploding. It should be the ultimate glorification for Remy.
@@AscendedXSaiyan Actually, he kinda is. Gambit is both Alpha and Omega level Mutant. Omega because of his potential, Alpha because of his current status and before the Sentinel scanned Magneto, it was scanning Gambit and that's when he said "Omega Level Threat Detected" meaning Gambit is actually one of the Omegas.
@@AscendedXSaiyanI think in one of the comics Gambit goes beyond omega level, god like, beast called it omicron level I think, but he had sinister nerf him as he was afraid of what his powers could do
@@AscendedXSaiyan All of the X-Men outside of Wolverine and Beast have the potential to be Omega Level or are already Omega Level Mutants. They exhibit the best in their power set. Even Beast is supposed to be the peak of the evolutionary scale holding all the evolutionary genes of the species on earth, which is why we've seen him Simian like, Lizard like, Feline like and more over the years. It's also why he's slowly becoming less empathetic to suffering over time & is going into the realm of Eugenics Mad Scientist wanting to push the boundary of understanding. Wolverine is literally the weakest of all the X-Men. That and his gruff exterior is likely why he became a fan favorite
i cried. rogue is my favorite x-man. remy and rogue have always been one of my favorite story couples, and this really shows why. he loves her so much and in ways she doesn't always understand, but does feel. even if she can't touch.
I just figured that Maddy used her psycho-kinetic ability to shield herself from the blast. Now I’m thinking that the psychic hit she took might have disabled her abilities. Could explain why she bled from it?
No, making Beast a horrible asshole was a stupid idea and removed everything that makes Dark Beast awesome in the first place. I wish they stick to Hank's heroic characterization...
In the old series, we saw Cable coming back to Genosha to track down Addler and try to prevent something. Now we know he's probably been trying to find a way to change this event. Which means it would be a nexus event, an unchangeable point in history.
They did SUCH a great job on the Wild Sentinel! And the way they’re condensing multiple story runs together without disrespecting the source material is artful. We don’t need more than one Marvel movie this year cause this is EPIC!
I don't know the comics, so watching Trent's absolute horror as soon as he realized what was happening... that just shows how traumatic the story was from the start. Also, justice for Gambit!
The XMen are great because they mix incredible action with deep social commentary and a cast of delightful, engaging characters who all wear their hearts on their collective sleeves. This is top tier television. I've been reliving this half hour over and over again these past two days through reaction videos and I get choked up every time. Hurts so good. Give this show the award for Best Animated Series; everyone else can go home.
Im a 90s kid and i love me some ace of base but would not have thought of using them in an episode. But the way the music was used, the song, the way the music was cut out leaving only the choir singing. God damn son!!! Also theyre not shying away from blood. We may get to see wolverine use his claws finally!!!
*WHAT A POWERFUL EPISODE! I'm honestly blown away! Never did I expect this show to be this good!* *As someone who grew up watching the original 5 seasons in the 90s, and loved it, thank you from the bottom of my heart to the crew that lovingly produced this newest season of X-Men ('97). I'd purchase it on Blu-ray today if it were available.*
Sadly they completely annihilated Rogue attitude with the stupid and forced love triangle they created for this show... A triangle that makes no sense if you watched the original series, were Magneto and Rogue were just enemies that even tried to eliminate each other. The way they made she to broke Gambit hearth even saying that their relationship was just roleplaying making her look desperate for touch someone, they havent respected the original Rogue a bit.
This episode. Wow. One bit of writing from the early part that I haven't really seen anyone talk about is how Logan tells Jean his eyes have only ever seen one of her, contrasted with Scott who is seeing both her and Madelyn. And that's when she kisses Logan, because Scott wants both of them and Logan just wants her (Even if she doesn't know yet that Scott has been psychically seeing Maddy, he has been ambivalent about it with both of them from the moment Jean showed up at the front door).
This was also echoed in the reporter asking about Marvel Girl / Jean: "How did you know she was The One?" The writing on this episode is some of the best I've seen in any show.
Love both of your reactions. Other channels don't know the characters and storyline like you both, makes your appreciation of this episode more impactful. This episode one of the highlights of Marvel. Gambit is so Goddamnm Cool...and they showed him in a way that befits his character. The last line "I can't feel you ..." breaks my heart everytime I watched it.
According to Lenore Zann and the show's former frontrunner, this was just the warmup, and the really heart-rending stuff will be in the last three episodes.
Val Cooper's reaction to the reveal of Rogue as Magneto's queen sure was unusual - as if she's not who we think she is. Notably, they went out of their way showing she survived the attack, which makes me think, she will have an important role later on, whether she really is Mystique or not.
@@nickdentoom1173 That may have been when Doctor Valerie Cooper was the REAL Doctor Valerie Cooper. Mystique may have taken over before or when Val went to Genosha.
“No this is more that oh no, I know what this is” you can feel the fear in his voice and see the horror in his eyes, thus is the burden of those with knowledge
The episode really destroyed me. Remy is one of my favorite characters and his heart was really torn to shreds this season. It breaks me that he died not knowing that Rogue chose him in the end, and that he died thinking that he was not enough. I get Rogue's trauma and how being able to touch someone, anyone, would be such a temptation for her but she was so wrapped up in her own issues that she didn't recognize that a man as passionate as Remy was willing to give up ever having a physical relationship with her because he loved Rogue that much. She figured it out in the end, but too late. Meantime, Remy was still willing to give up everything, including his life for her and the others.
The psychic blast that hit jean was about Madeline (you can hear her saying Madeline!! during madeline's vision) . And Madeline's vision was about the future that was coming that she saw in episode 1 about everyone dying
We shouldn't forget them. Some very good movies and some of the best scenes came from that franchise. X2 is particular is still one of the best superhero movies.
The X-Men 97 comics are prequels to the show. The most recent, Issue 2, shows an angry Sinister saying that doing his work was much easier when people hated and attacked mutants. It kept the X-Men busy and less likely to interfere. He would definitely want to go back to the status quo. I believe he's involved in this but not directly. He'd be somewhere on the sidelines manipulating events.
Yours was one of the reactions I was most looking forward to and you really didn’t disappoint. The second half of this episode grabbed me by the throat and did not let up until the credits rolled and it’s been AGES since something got me like that!
E for Extinction is one of my blindspots when it comes to comic knowledge, as my mom collected comics, but stopped some time in the 90s. But as soon as they got off the plane and Madelyne mentioned a Gala, I immediately thought of the 3rd Hellfire Gala and started screaming cause I knew things were going to get really bad really quick. And honestly? While I felt Inferno was really rushed, I LOVED what they did for Scott here. Instead of cheating with Emma, he's cheating with another version of Jean. Instead of leaving his wife and child for Jean, he's torn between essentially two Jeans. Amazing rework of his character. Given Scott's outburst, combined with the genocide of Genosha, I wonder if the tolerance is Extinction plot is going to be a take on the "Cyclops was right" arc?
It’s cool that the show is not about canon, it is adapting previous storylines and plots and producing a tv version. So they are not limited in how they choose to amalgamate and adapt. Refreshing. Gives me hope for future MCU and comic book content
The name of this Sentinel is Wild Sentinel A giant “Wild Sentinel,” built by a lost Master Mold and made of metal junk, surfaced in South America. They were built in the service of Charles Xavier’s evil twin Cassandra Nova. She ordered them to obliterate the mutant island of Genosha in 2001’s New X-Men #114, killing 16 million mutants.
This episode had so many jaw dropping moments I couldn't believe. From Jean and Wolverine kissing,to Cyclops snapping on the reporter,to the reveal of Madeline and Cyclops's psychic Affair,to seeing Nightcrawler and Dazzler,Rogue and Gambit breaking up,Rogue and Magneto's dance and finally that final attack by the sentinels. This 1 episode surpassed the entire Fox Adaptation of the Xmen. MAGNETO "WE SHALL NOT LIVE OUR LIVES WONDERING IF WE COULDVE SAVED MORE" GAMBIT" GAMBIT SEES YOUR BET AND RAISE IT!!"
I love y’all reactions yall don’t jump to conclusions just yet yall literally watch the episode!!🥰 other reactors be thinking they know what gone happen but sadly they don’t 🤣
I know this tragic story where 16 million mutants died and if it's not the Professor's sister behind this because both Gray and Prier had what looked like a psychic attack so Cassandra could be behind this to knock out telepaths before geneside started happened, but then I started thinking that we've just been introduced to one of those ancient evil gods of mischief that goes by the name of The Adversary, and that character loves chaos and despair and what's more despair than what happened in this episode... What really tugged at my heartstrings was when you look into Cabel's eyes and realize it's his mother in front of him and he couldn't save her.
I’m loving this is a what if style on it as in none of the X-men were present during the story arc in the comics. These three alone being here prevented the entire island being wiped out
I’ve watched multiple reactions of this episode and I got to say this is my favorite by far… I’m subscribed and ready for future reactions. Love all you two recognized and your theories! Hoping next episode is Cable continuously trying to fix this genocide!
I swear, the writers deserve some f**king awards! Especially the deliveries of Magneto's quotes throughout the series! He said things that made you want to side with him because it made sense and he had a point when saying it
Great reaction video. I really appreciate that you knew the source material because your reaction right before everything started going down was exactly my reaction too. In most videos, people are thrown by what happened, but knowing the backstory makes it so much more powerful.
Just came across your channel guys and so happy to jump on board for the ride!! Love and am waiting to get me a copy of that Graded X-men comic in the background with the first appearance of my all time favorite Gambit!! Great reaction too to a sad episode in my eyes but am hoping for time travel to now come in to play!!
That line was amazing, but for me, it was the visual impact of her finally touching his face to realize that while she can finally feel him, she also cant.
Dazzler was laying next to Sebastion when Gambit was talking about peeps being dead. The psychic affair is more akin to Emma and Scott, rather than Scott and Betsy. Although I think it was an amazing and perfect fit using Maddie over Emma. It was probably the best ending for a Maddie in comparison to how she’s dealt with in the comics. My theory with Magneto, he’s protected them. And Leach then uses his powers on Magneto, so he wouldn’t register as a Mutant which is why it said omega threat eliminated.
Subbed! Its nice to see reactors who know and understand the characters, dynamics, and what they go through! The writing, voice acting, story, animation, and emotion of this episode is just wow what an epic. Btw where can I get that X-MEN 97 mate?
Here are my X-Men '97 predictions after this ep: Magneto and Leech (and possibly other Morlocks) survived the blast. While still inside the force field, Magneto let the Sentinel blast explode and they disguised their escape by shooting away like shrapnel. They were the ones that hit the building that collapsed in the background. Magneto will turn back to his old ways but not show up alive immediately. He will let himself become a “martyr figure” to rally mutants to his side as they prepare for war. The villain mastermind who will show up in Ep 7 is Bastion. He is a sentinel/human hybrid from the future and is the one Cable was warning Madelyne about. He is working with Gyrich, Trask, and Mister Sinister to trigger a human and mutant war. Bastion works with the UN’s Special Sciences Division who dismantled Master Mold from Ep 1, allowing him to create the giant three-headed Master Mold that destroyed Genosha. Another X-Man will die in Ep 8. The season will close with the X-Men separated into two opposing factions (inspired by X-Men Schism). One side will be more militant, led by Cyclops. The other side will hew closer to Xavier’s dream, led by Storm. Big drama on how the X-Men will choose their sides in Ep 10.
This episode honestly broke me. I was watching it with a friend, and we were literally going, "No... no way... they wouldn't... Oh god, no..." And we were in tears. Got tore up again watching this reaction, but the solidarity helps. So excited, but so scared of the next episode.
First thank you for your reaction and your perspectives and expertise in the marvel world! The many and multiple layers of writing and visualizations in these episodes is amazing and the passion project that draws from these characters throughout the many X-men eras is beautiful. Truly stunning art and so moving. What a gift this series is. Love and laughter in your lives friends and cheers :)
I've been taking my time watching these episodes and just saw this episode today. Absolutely the most dramatic and emotional moments, I've ever seen in Anything. And everyone keeps telling me, you ain't seen nothing yet. Oh I hope they revive the Spider-Man animated series, cause there's a lot and I mean a LOT that they can cover, during that 90s comics run of his adventures. " cough" clones, dark Spidey, Ben Reilly "cough"
I don’t know if you caught this but when Cable said “No. Not again” that means he’s been trying to stop this at least more than once, but the Watcher is also there, meaning that its a nexus even and can’t be changed no matter how hard or how much he tries.
