Val Cooper IS Val Cooper!! She is NOT Mystique!! I’ve been crying this for so long and I’m standing by it, it makes zero sense for Val to be Mystique here’s why: 1. Telepaths!! Telepaths would easily be able to see through her shapeshifting. Jean, Madelyne and Emma would have easily spotted her! 2. Wolverine would be able to smell her, he knows what she smells like! 3. Sentinels didn’t identify her as a mutant during the massacre! 4. When Val was alone with Magneto there’s no reason to keep the disguise going! 5. On twitter I thanked Beau for not letting Val be Mystique and Beau DeMayo liked my tweet! Val is Val!! In standing by it!

X-Men fans have never been spoiled this much outside of comics in history! Whether it’s the deadly tag team of Nightcrawler and Wolverine, the Summers Family fighting a horde of Prime Sentinels, Bastion’s on screen debut as one of the the biggest and most formidable villains in Marvel history, Magneto proving again why he’s one of the most OP characters in comics history, and Charles Xavier ending the episode with “To me my X-men”. *AND THIS IS JUST PART ONE!?!?!?!* If parts 2 and 3 are this great or even better this will go down as the greatest comic book tv show ever made!

Nightcrawler is my favorite xmen. And I always wanted them to really show what he can do. X2 did a great job but it wasnt quite what I always envisioned. I thought I would never see the nightcrawler I loved in true action...until now. The scene with him and the rapiers? I will never be the same. That was the coolest thing I have ever seen, period.

I absolutely flipped out when they showed Doom, Zemo, and about 4 or 5 other Masters of Evil types, all like "yikes, even for us this is a bit much... anyway, GO TEAM WINNING SIDE, woooo". And the Nightcrawler POV for bamfing through the brimstone dimension was bonkers! Bastion literally playing the long game by hopscotching over mutants in evolution to just create better humans is also bonkers and a great use of the character. Pretty sure I saw Namor on one of the monitors in the background too! This show is just so amazing.

Genetically, Jean and Cable are mother and daughter since Madelyne has the same DNA as her but in terms of relation, they're aunt and nephew

The thing that scares me a little about the Genosha is an Absolute Point/Nexus Event theory is that Gambit's death isn't reversible.

I havent seen anyone comment on it, but that last frame with Xavier in the center and Beast, Cyclops, Jean and Storm, I think that's a reference to the little tag at the corner of the covers of x-men issues, at least in the 90s

I feel that Val's arch would loose potency if she was Mystique. A human coming to the conclusion that Magneto was right feels like a stronger statement than Mystique saying it.

i dont think anybody ive seen review this episode made a big deal about the fact that an extremely unexperienced Sunspot casually destroyed one of the Prime Sentinels in the mall after it tackled him

This episode was incredible! That was only Part-1 of 3?!?!? I can't honestly contain my excitement for the next two episodes over the next two weeks! The team-ups, the action, the music, the dialogue, the animation, the Easter Eggs, the cameos, and the respect for the comic book source material and original 90s animated series that inspired it all was absolutely perfect! I'm honestly ready to say that this is my favorite project Marvel/MCU has ever done 10/10 episode! I can't wait for next week!

Do wish it had shown Charles mentally calling all surviving Alumni and quasi-members of the X-men. Not just the originals.

They did such an amazing job balancing three action sequences at once. Animated Nightcrawler+Logan is the thing I’ve wanted to see my entire life. A Porsche in the back of a modified SR-71 the dumbest, coolest stuff ever. This show is amazing.

We actually have seen Nightcrawler travel through the brimstone dimension in animated form! There's an episode of Evolution where Forge creates a device that lets Kurt stay in the dimension longer to investigate it. Some creatures from that dimension even make their way back through to our dimension.

I appreciate that they are putting omega level mutations into the equation in this series... I hope they give Storm a huge moment next episode.

So Magneto didn't just shut down on thing, looks like he shut down the entire worlds electrical grids. So anyone on life saving electrical equipment. Those "civilians" who signed up for the Sentinel program. So in theory he truly did kill millions. I think that's why Wolverine said Magneto declared war on humans.

Tbf, they gave Storm her original outfit. There's no reason not to give Wolverine the brown and yellow. I'd love black and orange like in X-Men evolution, but I'm not holding my breath

They'll totally do Onslaught, but next season. These last two episodes have to be the rest of the Fatal Attractions comics storyline. Xavier comes back next episode and resets the team while Magneto sets up his base. In the final episode, Magneto strips out Wolvie's adamantium and then Xavier's response is to mindwipe Magneto. And THAT was the setup for Onslaught, so all next season is dealing with Wolvie and the Onslaught Reveal. Season 3 (or a few episode arc) could be Age of Apocalypse! So much potential and all so well done!

I remember saying here the Genosha attack was a "nexus" event (due to the presence of The Watcher) and someone said those "don't exist with the X-Men"...well it was confirmed in this episode that nexus events do exist here. What an episode, the best of everything!!!

I'm very excited to see what the rest of the finale does (hoping they don't do Onslaught since that wound being such a disappointment in the comics, but I thought the same thing about Bastion and they've made him work here so I trust them if that is the direction they decide to take)! they've been taking big swings every episode, and I'm here for it! I've never been big on the "Val is Mystique" train, and after this episode I REALLY hope that's not the way they go because that "Magneto was right" speech is so much more impactful if it's coming from a human who didn't trust him rather than a collaborator/sympathizer in disguise. also, the yellow and blue was Wolverine's first costume in the comics so definitely predates his brown and orange look (which I personally prefer). also also, those Frank Quitely black leather New X-Men costumes are super fucking dope and Agustin is a crazy person. ;) I doubt they'll go that direction for this show (YET!), but they are some of my favorite looks. if I had to guess what everyone's new looks will be, I'd say maybe some combination or influences from the Astonishing and Krakoan eras. though Storm's rocking a more classic 70s look, so maybe everyone's gonna go retro with some Cockrum/Byrne designs! it would be very funny for a show about moving into the future to feature a big design choice of moving into the past. :p

when you mentioned people seeing them in costume and being like "oh you're a normal person", I mean comics come with their own universal disbelief built in, but IRL man, some of us were dressing crazier than the xmen at the time in the mid 90s. Even I spent an unfortunately large chunk of the late 80's and early to mid 90's wearing a lot of eyewateringly garish spandex and dancewear around even to school with a black leather jacket and jeans or jean shorts over it and neon tights under. It was... kind of a thing, and I was far from the only one dressing like that, and a lot of people were just like "good grief it's the weird kids being weird again, with their music television and their hairspray and crazy fashion."

Seems only right that they would adapt Operation Zero Tolerance, which was released in 1997, in X-men '97. I honestly thought that crossover was a low point for X-men comics, but the writers of this show are making it so much cooler. I don't think they're going to do Onslaught this season, but with the fast pace of this show anything is possible. I don't think they would introduce Bastion just to have him be defeated this quickly. I still expect the last episode of the season to end with the X-men fighting Bastion himself. What happens with Magneto, I have no idea.
