For the 'owl monster' (Adversary) it helps to remember that Forge isn't just a mutant, but trained as a medicine man and has shamanic heritage. For a guy who's all about the tech, he's got some strong magic ties.

This was another great episode! I loved seeing the beginning of the "LifeDeath" story for Strom, and I can't wait for part 2 of this mini-arc! I can already tell this emotional character exploration of Storm is going to be one of my favorite mini arcs in the entire X-Men animated series franchise by the time part 2 completes the story. The "Motendo" stuff was also super fun and creative! Revisiting some of the greatest highlights from this iteration of the X-Men in 16-Bit from like an old X-Men arcade game spotlighting their greatest moments was super cool and fun! I also loved having a Jubilee episode because she's one of my personal favorite members of the X-Men! Having it be her birthday was also a really nice way to explore how far she's come since episode 1 of the original series! I'm also really starting to warm up to Roberto. It's been nice to see the world of the X-Men through his eyes as a newcomer to this family. 👀🎆 Overall, X-Men 97 continues to be my favorite thing Marvel has made on Disney Plus! 9/10 episode this week! 🙌🏽🌟✨️
The owl character is a major demon called the Adversary. He can be defeated only by magic. Forge has training as a Shaman so he has beaten him once. Storm is not only a mutant but she descends from a line of priestesses/sorceresses and she has beaten him once too.
Not to spoil too much but the Adversary, a demonic being, and Forge have been linked together in the comics. It was him who summoned it during his wartime and only he knows how to banish it with his shamanic abilities.
Montendo was supposed to be a combination and a play on words. Which clearly said it was mojo. And this is without a doubt a truly epic comeback. Because mojo represents a paradox of the very creators of television show editing. And I literally got goosebumps seeing it again. Because this villain has given me many chills. Since it is a very strange and at the same time sickly. 😆😆

I actually wish the last episode with Jean Grey was at least a 2-parter. I'm a bit surprised Gambit has not confronted Rogue and/or Magneto yet. It's like he wants to play along for now and make them still think it's still a secret.
He isn't Rogue's boyfriend currently and thinks he has competition for her affection. He's trying to be mature about it and act unbothered since his fear vision included Rogue saying "I found myself a real man" so he's trying to act like what he thinks that means. He's one honest and vulnerable conversation away from the relationship he wants, but it's probably going to take a few episodes to work to. I think Jean and Maddy's story will come up again down the line; no other reason to give us the visual hair cue to tell them apart unless they're both going to be on screen again at some point.
I like how they updated the 'running into the chain fence' shot from the classic into from Jubilee to Sunspot, since it seems like he's taking over more of that role this season.
Motendo was so fun jubilee really got to shine and show her now mature side while being a teenager girl. Life death 1 got dark i hope Storm gets her powers back soon but i think we gonna have to wait a bit longer.... did anyone notice the photo with the Doctor that worked with apocalypse forge knew him?
When Storm found out the truth behind Forge's creations & did exactly what I thought she would…perfect. The series is doing an incredible job with the drama suspense. Also again the opening title credits showing events from The Dark Phoenix storyline with Emma Frost and The Fate of the Phoenix arc with Lilandra brings back all those memories. Also nice references to Bruce Lee and Sister Sister Silhouette. Of course Mojovision being back with "Motendo" homage to Nintendo 16 pixel game counsel with the cool classic sound effects with that whole inception mixed with Matrix storyline so cool. In Lifedeath seeing the truth revealed by Gil Birmingham's Forge as to what he did and Storm's reaction, the world being shattered and then the dark side of herself being unleashed with Alison Sealy-Smith giving a dual performance made it more compelling.
As soon as I saw the Motendo title, I knew it was going to be a Mojoverse story...Mojo is probably my favourite villain... unfortunately, there were no X-Babies ( if you know, you know ) as I was hoping for...but I got Forge, a favourite X-Men related character so I'm satisfied...! 🙂
Guys if you want to read up about Adversary, the "Fall of the Mutants" event from Uncanny X-Men #225-227 is what you'll need to read. But you can read a few issues back to #223 for a bit more of the entity.

The owl is the adversary from the Lifedeath storyline in the comics. A mystical entity deal if I remember correctly. Jubilee made me so happy this episode and so did the x-men arcade game references and vibes. Love you guys
Mojo?!…😱 ahead of his time even when he showed up in the original series, as being already meta before meta would become the in thing and now for better and worse, practically the norm 😆
This episode was awesome!!! The Motendo segment was very fun. I really love Storm’s story arc. Excited to see Part 2 of Lifedeath, but we’ll have to wait until the sixth episode.
The Adversary was a villain the X-Men fought against during the time Storm got her powers back. It's why the world thought the X-Men were dead for a time. I actually think this is secretly Emma Frost because of the intro showing her. I don't think we'll see this conclusion with Storm and her powers until episode 6 since that's Lifedeath part 2
The Marvel Vs Capcom 1 and 2 style animation made me feel like I was a kid again in the 90’s. I hope Capcom makes a new MVC game someday, and have an option to use this animation style! Plus I love how much love Jubilee is getting in this show.

Just behind Apocalypse and Mister Sinister, Mojo is easily the worst character in the entire show. 10:54 jinx! 10:58 apparently that’s Jubilee’s original voice actress Alyson Court. This time she voiced Abscissa.
Mojo is the best character in the entire Marvel universe he is stronger than Thanos he’s got more machinery then Galactus faster than the dark dimension creature demon all road lead to mojo he’s got Mojovision motoendo before you know it, he might even be the one that started smart phones in the current timeline just wait if Mojo Starts a news channel. I’ll be the most powerful being direct universes.
It still feels like the show is having pacing issues (and poor voice direction), but I still love seeing more characters aside from Scott get the spotlight now.
