the next one is worth watching to see where the story goes beyond that there's not much good especially for an X-Men fan they take serious liberties with both the characters and source material the third film is the most hated of the original trilogy
Not enough of Scott: at the time this was made, Wolverine was probably Marvel’s most popular character. Fox wanted to built the X-Men film franchise around him. They weren’t really interested in the Cyclops. Which is a shame.
Unfortunately, as a comic book fan I don't think you gonna find the justice you wanted for the characters on the next movie. I didn't read everything X-Men as much as you, but I did read all the main titles (X-Men, Uncanny X-Men) from 1965 to 1990 and after these I read most of the main sagas until 2013. And I had my pet peeves but I always enjoyed X-Men (2000) and X2. I didn't like X-Men The Last Stand, which is the next one at the time and I figure you'll be pissed at somethings as well - it's important to know that the director of the 1st and 2nd movies wasn't able to comeback to the 3rd and it shows. BUT I believe that The Last Stand, although still with a lot of problems, didn't age that badly... There are a lot of cool scenes, most of the sfx still holds up and has a lot of bold decisions that movies today don't have the b*lls to take. Some of them were good and interesting, others not so much. BUT the franchise still has a couple of really good movies for you to enjoy - specially First Class, Days of Future Past (don't expect it to be the same as the comics) and Logan. If you plan to watch all the recent ones, I would recommend you to finish up with Logan. It wasn't the last movie to be released, but it was the last good one, besides Deadpool. So... I would let Logan finish your ride, so you finish it with a banger, not with a downer hahaha. Also, last but not least: The Last Stand has a post-credits scene!!! Don't miss it! Almost all movies after this have one.
I'm enjoying seeing you really critique these movies. Don't think I've seen a major comic fan react to them and I love hearing your genuine thoughts on what could / should be better and what they got true to the inspiration.
Rebecca Romjin was a trooper during the filming of these, she went through the hassle of putting on all the makeup and prosthetics and showed them off proudly, in contrast the reason Mystique wears a full body suit in the First Class movies is because Jennifer Lawrence couldn't be arsed to do the full body makeup. "Grace" is just Rebecca without makeup, beautiful woman.
Another reason why Jennifer Lawrence didn't do the full prosthetics was "she's allergic". Either way I preferred the aesthetics and the execution of Rebecca's version of Mystique much more.
@@razz2552 Allergies seem to be the go-to excuse when modern actors don't want to do something, reminds me of the recent Sabrina show forgoing Salem the cat because Kiernan Shipka claims to be allergic, compared to Melissa Hart's show which had lots of animatronics, puppets and trained animal actors.
@@ag9953yeah just lazy excuses. like they could have done a cgi cat too. also reminds me of the last of us show. during the bts for an episode they said they didn't use Pittsburgh like in the game because they were filming in a different city. they couldn't be bothered to film in a more expensive city or use more cgi to make it look like the city in the game.
They didn't remove Salem, they just changed things around. They still had a cat on set, that was actually her familiar and moved the Warlock character to Ambrose.
@@Psykochic916 The cat was barely in the show and it was a pointless mute forest demon thing, at that point why even have him at all, specially since all the sarcastic one-liners were given to the author self-insert cousin? They even had the gall to try to make fun of the puppet from the previous show in the second-to-last episode, but they just half-assed it because the cat in the old show was actually a pretty complex animatronic while the one in the new one was just a shitty plush toy.
I'm not a comic reader but i actually like your reactions and you sharing your knowledge along with the movie. Hope you haven't watched Logan and Deadpool 2 yet cuz I can't wait for your reactions on those movies
The X Men are my favorite superheroes and favorite villains of all times Aside from watching the 90s animated series and now 97 I only owned a few comics and even now have some so I only know a little of the origins and storylines and definitely my girl Rogue suppose to fly even though they didn't have the rights to Ms Marvel It's refreshing when a reactor knows the lore and can point out things that are not cannon but hey our first time seeing them in live action Gotta go back and watch your reaction to the first one now that I'm subscribed
Jean's death was so forced in this one, weak ending seroiusly. She could've lifted the X-Jet from inside. And yes, this movie series don't give Cyclops any recognition, it's all about Wolverine.
“Storm was never one to be angry.” The version of Ororo in these films is so far from the character in the comics, she’s a different person. I hope you’re watching the animated X-Men ’97, because it really understands the characters and stories from the source material.
@@fatherpie7014 That lead her down a path where she became very different to the goddess who believed all life was sacred. She eventually found her way back. If the films wanted to visit her darkest period, then they needed to do the character development first. But we never got that sort of longer story telling until the MCU committed to telling stories over many films.
@@afrancis1582 no spoilers pls, I'm only on Uncanny X-men 180, currently reading Secret Wars, but yes, both films certainly give wildly different interpretations of the X-men. I am excited to see the MCU version of some classic Mutant stories!
I’ve said it before, but this was one of the best movie theater experiences of my life. I saw it when it first came out in high school, and my mind was blown. My favorite sequences were the end scene at the dam, the tornado sequence, and when magneto escapes. I remember the sound design being spectacular and being in awe at the special effects. I wanted to cry when Jean passed. 😢
I agree with you so much. These movies just don’t focus enough on Scott. He’s the leader of the X-men for goodness sake. They always make the Wolverine character the focal point in all these movies, and it’s a bit irritating. I like you, grew up reading the comics, and I just wish for once they would tell (focus) on someone else’s “story”, in lieu of Wolverine’s story.
I love how you keep comparing it to the comics and pointing out the mistakes compared to the comics. Not a lot of people do that enough. So may changes and let downs but also so many great moments too :D
Yeah. I try not to do it in a complaining type of way, because it seems the director wanted to make his own version of the X-men when he made this movie. But I think if they were true to comic characters it would have did better in the box office.
@@NewfieMovieReactions I think you did a good job, didn’t come off in a complaining way at all! Wish more people would mention the comics and the origins of these characters. Keep up the good work, always love watching your reactions and commentary :)
It's fun to watch someone react to these movies that knows the universe and understands the characters. You have alot of the same qualms as I did years ago, especially with Colossus as he was one of my favs but I was so excited to see them come to the big screen that I still enjoyed them....for the most part. Looking forward to the rest.
Isn't Colossus going as Peter Nicholas here dude to the Siege Perilous that changed their memories and gave them new identities which is why he doesn't have a Russian accent?
Completely agree with you about colossus, it wouldn't have been difficult to add the accent, but even outside the comics it's a huge part of him. Other than that, not really much to say on that one
I think why these movies were different than the comics and even the cartoon was because Fox owned the rights to X-Men at the time so a lot of characters like Colossus didn’t really measure like they should have. I watched the cartoon but never got into the comics but I can understand how a comic reader could be upset by some of the style choices they made.
Yuriko is pretty tragic in this film. You can see her regain herself right after she gets stabbed with the injector. But by then, it was too late, the damage was already done.
I really like X2. It’s one of my favorites. Get through the next couple movies, I don’t think they are as good but I’d like to see what you think. Someday down the line I hope to see you react to Days of Future Past, I really like that one too.
I didn’t know who lady death strike was till i played marvel contest of champions and yea she way more bionic still was kinda cool to see her even though i don’t think tht should have killed her so quick
"Logan, my tolerance for your smoking in the mansion notwithstanding, continue smoking that in here, and you'll spend the rest of your days under the belief that you're a six-year-old girl." "You'd do that?" "I'd have Jean braid your hair." Fun Fact: Theatrical movie debut of Jade Ramsey and Nikita Ramsey. Extra Extra Fact: Most of the extras playing frozen people were actually mimes, who are used to not moving. Location Location Fact: The Arctic snow scenes were filmed in Alberta, Canada, an area known for its heavy snows. Naturally, when the production arrived, there was none, so the snow had to be re-created. Last Laugh Fact: Professor Xavier's wheelchair from X-Men (2000) was bought by a lawyer who also worked for the same law firm as Sir Patrick Stewart's attorney. When production began, the studio realized they had no chair anymore, so the lawyer rented it back to the studio, as Stewart said in an interview: "...for a significant sum." Blink And You'll Miss It Fact: In the scene where Storm and Nightcrawler are rescuing the children from their prison at Alkali lake, the children stand and look up as they hear them approach above. If you look carefully, you can see Alan Cumming as Nightcrawler already standing in the shadows at the back of the cell, presumably in preparation for when he will "teleport" in a few seconds later and suddenly step forward into the light. Make-Up Effect Fact: Rebecca Romijn's make-up took five hours to apply as opposed to seven for the previous movie. Unlike the first movie, where Rebecca Romijn wore contact lenses, this time, Mystique's eyes are rendered digitally. The Lady Deathstrike's claws were glued to the bottom of Kelly Hu's own fingernails. She had to grow them out a bit so that the claws would fit securely. Alan Cumming had to endure ten hours of make-up to become Nightcrawler, for the scene in the church (where his skin and make-up is shown from the waist up). Cutting Room Floor Fact: Initially, during the "Dark Cerebro" scene, where it is attempting to kill all mutants, director Bryan Singer had planned to show not only Cerebro's effects on the mutants in the Alkali Base, but mutants all over the world. During this scene, Hank McCoy, a.k.a. Beast (Steve Bacic), as seen earlier on the television during the bar scene, was to be shown in agony, transforming into his furry form, and fan-favorite Gambit was to be shown at a card game having his energy powers flare up. This scene was actually shot, using one of Hugh Jackman's stuntmen, James Bamford as a stand-in for the role, shot from behind to remain ambiguous. For whatever reason, Singer decided to cut this sequence altogether and it remains unseen.
I'm really enjoying this X-Men series so far please continue it all the way through. I haven't read the comics but I can tell you're passionate about them and quite knowledgeable and appreciate that the reactions aren't nitpicky about every little change. I feel like you are respecting the changes for the films which makes for a much more exciting reaction than other reactors who might complain all the time about them.
I really like how in the opening scene, they played Dies Irae for the background music. I like it because it's not only sung in German, but it's also a song about God (perfect for Nightcrawler). Very creative.🙂
i'm glad that, despite not very faithful to the comics, you still having some fun with these movies. It's very entertaining to watch your reaction as X-Men comic fan 🙂
These movies are really not bad at all, not even the third one which was very maligned at the time of release, yes they're different than the comics but the story works well as an alternate universe, and the movies themselves are actually functional as an independent story unlike the shit Disney has been putting out lately.
Hii, you should definitely check out society of the snow. It's a great movie and I would love to hear what you have to say about that. If you do watch it I recommend the original language with subtitles, ,the acting was amazing and with so much more emotion than the dubbed version.
Also huge reason they didn't get any characters right to the source comics is they didnt allow comics on set and actual banned them. so these are def their own thing with no connection to the comics besides the names.
