Skip, nice to see you in XP12. I appreciate your comments about the real-life view from the cockpit. Like you, i prefer setting where i see instruments w/o panning down. I since have learned about the dangers of focusing too much on the gauges and not keeping sharp eye on what’s going on outside. Glad you are still flying, instructor.
Thanks Skip. Nice intro. I purchased X-Plane 12 and couldn't agree more. about the scenery enhancements. I didn't know if I could use my X-Plane 11 airplanes, but you solved that issue for me. Your videos have been so helpful. Keep up the good work
Hi horatio, Thanks for watching :-) Yea, with what I've seen so far this will be quite an improvement over XP11, just the scenery is worth the upgrade I believe. I will be doing more testing but I did notice landing and taking off seemed smoother also. This is great to know Skip. I have been a Xplane 11 for a couple years and have been wanting to get xplane 12. I have a question. In V 11, I have Orbix scenery. In which the files are quite large. Rather than duplicating the same files over to V 12 (taking up more space), Would there be another way to incorporating Orbix to V 12? There is a method called symbolic. But I am unsure how it works. It looks as though you answered kinda using the Those high level scenery and saying that using them in V 12 there is not much improvement, So just using the default scenery in V 12 as is ?????
Hi C Wood, Thanks, glad the video helped some. I am not familiar with Orbix so I can't be much help there, sorry. Third party scenery for XP are nice but not great. XP12 has improved the scenery quit a bit compared to XP11 so I have just stayed with the default scenery. With that in mind scenery has never been a major factor for me it's the flying and airplanes that matter the most. My guess is you should be able to cut and paste the Orbix files from XP11 into XP12 Custom Scenery folder and it should work once you setup the .ini file (I'm assuming there are no special install "things" necessary) I also think once you go to XP12 you won't go back to XP11 unless there are things you really don't like in XP12. in which case you can just put the files back so you won't have to duplicate the files :-) With Ortho4XPI could download small areas (but large files) to give it a try so I just have a few areas installed on my XP11. I didn't go that route for XP12 although I might try it again. I do recommend XP12 it has improved quit a bit over XP11. But, like all software upgrades, there are features no longer available that I miss. The Map for example is missing features I liked and used but definitely not a big deal. Wow! Thanks for the look at X-Plane 12 Skip. Question: Did you try to transfer any of your Ortho modifications to X-Plane 12? Or was we seeing the scenery as it really was? For Example did you transfer the Benton Field Buildings? I love the way the wet weather looks in the new version. I just may buy it, because I went to their site, and they said if you downloaded or paid the 60 bucks, they will update your software for free ( I think, not actually sure on that ) But that means whatever bugs are in this, they will correct it, and we don't have to do anything except download the new patches that will repair it and make it the full version. Hi Terry, Everything you saw in the video on XP12 is what comes with XP12, I didn't add any custom scenery or anything else. In XP11 the scenery was, well not so good, and I got photo real scenery from Ortho4XP. That takes up lots of disk space and, as you saw in the video, it's not as good as what comes standard in XP12. This alone is worth the upgrade. I didn't say this in the video because I want to spend more time in 12 but landing and takeoffs are much smoother, at least it seemed that way to me, more testing to do on this. My 2007 iMac is hopelessly obsolete so I need a new laptop for X plane. I’m working on an instrument rating so scenery isn’t critical, I just need an accurate instrument panel and flight characteristics. Unfortunately, I know little about which computer hardware would work well. Do you have any advice?
Hi Darryl, I'm not sure about how well X Plane 12 will run on a laptop it has demanding requirements for the graphic card. Good idea Darryl, I'll be interested in what you found out about laptops :-) One thing you should know X Plane 12 would not run on my desktop until I upgraded my video card drivers so it could run Vulkan which is necessary for XP. This might only be necessary for Nvidia video cards I don't know, might be a good question for the tech at Best Buy. Sorry, I don't understand all this stuff not much help. Blessings, skip
Hi Dennis, I have three monitors so there surely will be a different look but yours should look good. What Graphic card do you have and what are your graphic settings, mine are set to maximum because I have a really good graphic card? I also used Ortho4XP photo real scenery, I recommend getting it if you don't have it it may help but XP12 does a pretty good job now with scenery compared to XP11. Blessings, skip
@@WEHVideos Hi skip, I have a GEFORCE 2080 super. I am managing to get my frame rate to 10 to 15 (on a good day) and all top end equipment. I had the computer built especially for flight sim. I have many problems with xplane 11 one of which it never holds the graphics settings. I have deleted and reloaded xplane with the advice of xplane support many times but it never works right. I am also using 3 monitors. The settings are lower than maximum. If I raise the settings my fms goes to 6 or 7. Any advice on who can help with this. I am about ready to throw in the towel. One more thing, the left monitor keeps returning to the front screen so I am looking front both in the middle monitor and in the right monitor.
Hi Dennis, That's horrible I'm sorry to say. I get a minimum of 35fps with settings at almost maximum and three monitors, something is very wrong! If you are using window 10-11 in the search box type "about" to see how much ram you actually have and also go to device manager and check Display Adapter to make sure you GeForce is listed and make sure you have the latest drivers. XP12 would not run until I updated the drivers for my Nvidia card. I have found just clicking update drivers in device manage always says I have the latest drivers installed when I don't so go to the site and download the latest drivers and install them regardless of what your device manager says!!! I'm pretty sure this is a memory issue for your graphic you need a minimum of 8gb on your video card to run three monitors and high graphic settings in XP. If there is a way to actually see how much memory you have on your video card check that also. Try running on one monitor and lower the demand for graphics and see if your frame rate improves. That's all i can think of at the moment, let me know how it goes. Blessings, skip
