X100V .. If I Could Only Have One Camera

I still love my Z50.. and new Z6ii, and am SO glad that Nikon is rocking it with mirrorless. With that said, if I had to choose just ONE camera to own there is no doubt it would be the X100 series from Fuji. I stated the V here but all the others are great for the same reasons (except AF), like leaf (ninja) shutter, compact, flash, and gorgeous colors/tones.

X100V is awesome. Tactile experience, fujifilm simulations, leaf shutter, built-in ND filter… everything is awesome.

Good discussion of why you are impressed with the x100v. I LOVE mine because the images are gorgeous, it made me stop shooting auto, and reminded me how fun photography can be. I use it for everything - landscape, portrait, pseudo-macro, but mostly for fun.

It truly is a versatile camera. I agree on how good the images are from it. I grab it for shots of the dogs or kids and am often surprised with just how nice the colors and tones are. Thank you for the comment.

I only have one Z body and lens, a Z6 + 50 f/1.2 S and depends on adapting my existing FX & DX and Canon DSLR lenses. As far as if I could only have one camera, then it is either my D3 (but it is long in the tooth) or the Leica Q.

Great stuff - keep posting as I enjoy your perspective !! I’m torn between a Z50 or a Z6II… ugh.

Thank you. What is your main use for the camera? Both great. Z50 is super mobile with kit lens.. which is very good in good light. Z6ii is a BRICK.. feels solid and Z 24-70 f4 is very, very good lens. Z50 is a grab and go, use one-handed type camera. Z6ii is an I’m-going-out-to-shoot and will carry a bag camera.

@@TCinSoCal It’s a tough choice as I’m all over the place with my needs - as - the APSC isn’t given enough credit as a format so it’s damn cheap … like crazy cheap for what it can do - yet I do love full frame and convenience takes a back seat to the moment of “damn that’s a great image” on full frame ..: so it’s a tough choice - and then the Z9 will be here soon also… good God man… back in the day you had a body for 10 years before something else was released to replace it… and the prices now are insane. I’m babbling now…

@@JSturr agree on crop sensor. My ‘one pick’ is a crop sensor. Amazing images from all. I have been so impressed with the colors from Nikon.

@@TCinSoCal The Nikon color science is their saving grace right now - even if no one really admits it … truth. I’m in total agreement with you.

Is it possible to weather seal this camera with a circular polarizer filter instead of a UV filter?
@TCinSoCal
@TCinSoCal 3 года назад
I think you will need the ‘adapter’ to use the CP. The threads on the lens will not work with a filter if you just remove the ring. The threads are on the outside of the lens vs the inside so you need the adapter. I use NiSi filter/hood combo as it’s super small, ‘seals’ the lens and I can still use the stock lens cap. FWIW, I don’t trust any weather sealing in more than light rain. Hope this helps.

What is the lens hood you use on the 100V? I just sold my 100F and ordered a V. I like the low profile of the hood you have.
@TCinSoCal
@TCinSoCal 2 года назад
It’s the NiSi UV filter/hood. I like it because it ‘seals’ off the lens but the stock lens cap still fits.. and I can still fit the X100V in my pocket.

I love my ibis on my m4/3 cameras and as much as I’ve been tempted several times I just have not been able to do it without ibis.

Thank you for the comment. I don’t do much low-light shooting and my boys rarely sit still so IBIS doesn’t do a lot for me. I like it. Have it in the Z6ii but for general use the X100V (any X100 IMO) is so versatile.

Do you have a Nisi filter attached? I bought mine Nisi for my X100V yesterday. What's your experience with image quality and flares from the filter? Isn't it very noticable? I decided to buy the filter because it looks great on the camera, it protects the lens from dust and water and it's still possible to use the original lens cap. But I'm not sure what I can expect about the image quality. I shot about 2 weeks without any lens protection and the quality of the images was really superior...
@TCinSoCal
@TCinSoCal 2 года назад
Yes. I’m using the NiSi filter. I love that it works with the stock lens cap. I have not noticed any significant issues with IQ. I’m sure there is a slight bit of impact to sharpness but I don’t see anything major. I just went back and reviewed some images. You could always just keep the filter in a bag & use when needed.

@@TCinSoCal Thank you for the reply and the test... I'll try to do the same... I'm still afraid of the dust and dirt may come to the lens and want to protect it... but not to loose the IQ too much... will try to do the same comparison and share my thoughts... thanks for all, keep well

@@ivanvalko9621 Good luck. I think it’s worth having on in dusty conditions and I normally don’t like/use lens filters. I have to say.. I still love this camera. Just took it and my Z6ii to Utah and the X100V got used the most ..& great results. Thank you for watching/commenting.

@@TCinSoCal I just returned from photo walk and saw the results. Personally, absolutely no complaints regarding sharpness and colors. The only weak point is when the strong source of light is in the frame, I had to deal with more visible flares. Some can be retouched in postprocess and if really needed, there is stil possibility to take the filter down. But it's definitely worth wearing it on. At least for me. Very good quality filter and design also. Thank you once more for your thoughts and honest review. No wonder you use your X100V at most :)
