I have X100V in black for 2 years. What I found on my black surface was easy to see scratch and dust. Then, I pre-order X100VI in silver. I love how classic style of silver.

I took my silver Nikon FG film camera to a city park and it seemed like everybody noticed it and several people commented on it. One bicycle rider even turned around and came back to wax nostalgic about his old K100 Pentax he let get away. I did not like being that obvious and drawing that much attention, so even though my aesthetic preference would be the silver, I ordered the black. They said if you ordered a black X100V your wait would be longer so I am not sure if that is a consideration or not.
Yeah the silver is more noticeable, which clearly you have experienced! The x100vi in black will have a higher waiting time. I'm not sure exactly why. Maybe they produce way less of it! :)
Silver orderer here. The social effect is one of the main features, the effect it has on your subjects, making them feel more relaxed, happy, nostalgic, special. That’s definitely maximised with the silver. If you want an invisible camera with hipster vibes to creep on folks in public just get the Meta Ray Bans. That said I have a trick for dealing with decision paralysis like that: flip a coin and see how you feel. If you feel fine about it, great, go with it. If you feel bad about it, now you know, so go with the other choice.
That is a great point. The silver does give off a more approachable vibe. I think people are just seeing a beautiful object, as suppose to the black version, which does give off a more professional, and serious vibe. I have an X100V in black. I have pre-ordered a black X100VI. I like both colours but as I have accessories in black and I do on occasion take photos through windows /Glass ie view from a building etc I find the black does not reflect nearly as much. Something to add to the decision process 😎

I normally love silver/black cameras like older Olympus SLR’s, but I’ve never liked the Fuji silver. It’s too clean and shiny of a silver. So I went with the best of both worlds and ordered black with a brown leather half case, so you still get the two tone. It’s more stealth and sleek than the silver, gets less attention, and you can see the silver in reflections if you like to shoot into or through windows.
The black is definitely a lot more stealth! Somebody also commented on shooting through windows, that the black camera would better suited for that! Enjoy the camera brotha! :)
Objectively I might have chosen the black, it would normally suit me better, but I went for the silver as that is one makes it unique. Every other camera I own, or will own, will probably be black.
I'm glad I'm not alone. I also had both colors in the x100v and ultimately decided on keeping the silver and pre-ordered the silver again. Ultimately, the silver and black gives off more of a retro feel than the all black (though the all black is very sleek and minimal so I do love that about it - especially with the square hood. It looks so good). But also, here's one thing I don't believe you touched on but the silver color does not show dust and finger smudges and even surface level scuffs and scratches as clearly as the black. I'm a lot bit OCD so if that's you, I'd say lean silver. I think the choice is "minimal and sleek" or "retro and unique". I mean you could say both cameras are unique but the silver black colorway is unlike any other camera on the market today (except Leica... but that's another story).
You are definitely not alone in this! :) The silver has a silver retro and nostalgic feel, that is hard to replicate with any other color scheme and camera Design such as the X100V. The black though, is so sleek and minimal. You might be right about smudges, which is a good point! In terms of scratches i thought it was the silver that would show the most scratches in the long term, but maybe that is not the case. Maybe more people could chime in on this! The silver ages better. Under the black coating is silver aluminium so any scratch will stand out (opposite to what is suggested in this vid) Luckily Fuji cameras look just as good worn and beat
I've had several X100's in silver starting with the "S" and have a "VI" in silver on order. For some reason, I like the X100 in that color combination, maybe because it reminds me of the old 35mm rangefinder's my grandfather gave me as a kid. All my other cameras are solid black.
The nostalgic feel with the silver is definitely reel! So I feel you on that. And it's cool you are reminded of your grandfather - I don't think the choice gets easier than that! :) Have you ever thought about getting the black though? :)
You know...I am torn but I have ordered it in black. The logic is that I wanted a discrete travel camera, so a silver one is the opposite of that. Plus I also have the original X100 in black, I can at least re-use the ProMist filter from that on the new VI. Plus, all my cameras down the years from Canon to Sony, compact to 5D4 and A7R3, lenses, flash, everything is black. The 1 time I bought a Silver camera, an Olympus OM2, I dropped it. The universe is selling me something. Overall though, discrete reason for me is the reason to go with black, even though I prefer silver for the VI if I were to take product shots of the camera itself.. I am trying to take photos with his camera, not take photos of it. So for me, black it is.
Man you have thought this through! And your points are definitely valid. The black might be discrete, but it's super good looking. It's as beautiful as the silver model i feel, just in a different way. It's cool that the universe also had a hand in your choice :) Thanks for watching :)
@@universallanguage9839 HA, yup, I bought a 70's Olympus to take to Japan as a mini project, 10 days in Japan. 1 Roll of Velvia...On Day 9 I dropped the camera, the metal hardware in the wrist strap came undone and the camera fell to the ground, breaking the winder in the film, the aperture ring went all stiff. Now it's a nice paperweight. I think the Silver VI is a nicer looking camera, my heart would have gone there no doubt but my OCD wouldn't let me put a black ProMist filter on a silver camera either.
i was hoping this video finally can help me with my choice. But it made it harder! Hahaha. I preordered the Silver because you know, retro. Reminds me of my Zeiss Ikon and Nikon FM2. But, I also used to have an Leica M8. And its in black. And it's the coolest piece of gear Ive ever own or will ever own. And watching your video, makes me miss the black aesthetics. Now i am not sure!
It doesn’t matter. I have both silver and black bodies. I preordered the black body. To me the black body looks more elegant. I don’t believe a black body is more stealthy. I’ve been told there is a longer backlog for the black body. Mask On Nurse Marty (Ret)
I was going through the same thing too, then I remembered why I first fell in love with the camera, and it was because it looked so vintage. They are both aluminium top and bottom from what I've read so the black will show wear and tear more then silver I went for silver

I have the v in black, I wanted to pre-order the silver but I like to stay stealthy shooting video and photography, plus it looks so clean. If I wanna switch it up I’ll get a silver decal lol
I had x100f in black.. The paint on shutter was wearing off.. I hated that until I think on hand sand it.. Unfortunally I lost the camera.. And now I order 100vi in silver. One positive thing was that small printed speed numbers were easier to see on black for a +40 years old guy without wearing glasses and the back seems all metal instead of silver that you can see plastic black display frame.. Still would go with silver this time.
I have linked a couple of different Diffusion filters in my description, which you can check out at different price points. I think the Nisi one is probably the easiest to use, i have not used that on my self, but i have used the UV-filter with the same design, and i have loved it. But how strong do you want the Diffusion to be? :) Otherwise the Tiffen 1/8 and 1/4 always been the industry standard But you don't have to buy them in the 49 filter threard, you can buy them in any size you desire, and just use step up rings. Though if you buy the filters at 82mm, it will look a bit out of place :) I hope it helps, otherwise get back to be :) @Nation
