X4 Ep4: Diplomacy, Teleportation & (temporary) Optimism 

EDIT: I don't know how, but the clip where we actually meet the queen somehow dropped from this episode despite being in the render list. Not sure how that happened. I'll tack it on at the end of next episode just so anyone annoyed they missed it can see Boso trying to deal with meeting royalty. As noted, this episode is rather story focused and almost...optimistic in tone. Next episode we're going to follow up the Yaki storyline and then, from there, things are going to be changing from E6 onwards...

I really like the realpolitik you’re putting on display. It’s not just “I’m gonna have the terrans conquer everything” but instead “I’m gonna make sure the Boron are Terran allies and are aligned with them only” Empires of influence are twice as fun as empires of conquest imo

God the Boron ships in X4 are such a beautiful glow up from their X2 versions

Tangentially, for folks newer to the X series, and to give folks an idea how ridiculously epic this game actually is, the studio's got about 20 people total.

I appreciate the respect you give to people who have yet to give you a reason to not. Speaks to me that you are also, first - an optimist. This came through in the Dom5 playthroughs you put up too. You seem willing to wheel and deal on high levels, even with risks to your objectives, with unknowns who have yet to give you a reason to not do so. Even further, if someone has proven reliable, you seem willing to go against even your own judgement (within reason) to repay that reliability. You might make redundant plans *just in case* but that is just good sense. I sincerely wish all diplomacy in real life could be handled by level-minded people like yourself. While some conflict can be actually unavoidable, things can just be so much smoother for everyone involved with this sort of dedication to diplomacy and relationships themselves. It is honestly heartening to find people like you who exist on this shared planet of ours.

I do love that this game gives you a designated little dude to Pal around with. Very much pro little dudes, just get me a side kick and I’m done for almost any adventure

Something I recently noticed with my current X4 playthrough that I never really realized before about Dal is that especially in the Kingdom End DLC, he seems to be written a bit differently; Anywhere else he wasn't ever quite as ruthless as he seems here for some reason. His voice changed of course, but the writing is definitely different. In my first playthrough I did Kingdom End before even meeting him so I never saw this side of him and in any of the other factions' plotlines, he seems to be much more neutral, even sometimes offer up solutions that reduce chaos and destruction.

You are doing a great job as a ambassador for X4. The more I watch, the more I get excited and also the more I love the Boron. Can't wait for Ep6

22:00 this makes me wonder just how deep into the X lore we will go. What I remember from reading some wiki articles ages ago (Albion Prelude time) the bigger setting was actually really really cool even though it had nothing to do with the game. A stage 5 civilization getting startled because some pesky humans invent jump drives way too early is just dumb fun.

Boron are precious and the people of Mitsune still need protection. I hope that you can leverage your "industrial might" (I realize that even on this early game scale it is puny and still in building) Reducing problems in supply chains, should give you and your allies an edge. I hope.

If you keep this up and continue this series this has the potential of being the best X4 series on youtube. Too many of them are just unedited twitch vods or abandoned before they really get started.

Somehow, X4 seems like a more comprehensive version of what Starcitizen aims for 🤔

Hey, thanks for running through some tips and tricks for early game stuff in these episodes. Watching these definitely got me into the game, and I was able to use the trick you showed in episode 1 to take down and take control of a souped up pirate corvette.

I do love the fact that X4 has a lil bit of humanity f- yeah in it, where you discover that in the end, the super advanced civilization that built the jump gates underestimated the humans cause "well they're just apes hurr durr" and then, first thing we do when we go to space, we build a Jump gate right under their noses, making the super powerful ancient civilization crap themselves. (also the sentient AI that wants to destroy all life whoopsie i guess ahah)

As much as I like the story missions, I'm glad for when Perun goes back to play the mechanics and factions, the background simulation is probably one of my favorite things in these kinds of games.

I ship Boso and Nila, they're both just too cute.

After your great help with terra invicta i feel obliged to help you in a game im ridiculously educated on. If you want to start up your commonwealth industry but dont have the funds, or you want to progress a lot faster without relying on outside traders, set your building method to closed loop. Buy every module you need to produce energy cells, hull parts and claytronics. Thats like 5 whole modules. Make sure you buy them from the argon/antigone/vig/rakers. Closed loop makes so that you can build quite literally everything using ec, claytronics and hull. Build a station somewhere where all the raw resources are present(i prefer silent witness 11 since its close, unclaimed and fairly safe). Put down all productions and make a trade restriction on them. Now you have a station you can freely upgrade, also producing everything you need for future projects. Closed loop is like terran economy but even lower effort. Ships? Turrets? Stations? You can build it with 3 resources. Its such a blatantly strong strategy. And guess what resources are needed in unlimited number? Hull parts, claytronics and energy cells. So to sum it up you build basically for free compared to universal, and you make bank while doing it. Just keep in mind to build argon stuff for closed loop to work. And if you feel extra cheesy you can touch on salvaging, it just requires A LOT kf energy. What better way to make you rich than recycling your enemies. Build a def station with plasma and beam turrets close to a gate(you can glitch it inside the gate collision zone), go to the other side of the gate, aggro something and jump back, if you put production modules on this gatecamp it can even rebuild itself for completely free. X4 is such a beautiful game in a weird, outside of the box thinking way

For the part of the spoilers, I don't think it matters too much if I see the cutscenes when you're playing or when I'm playing. The surprise will be the same. Still haven't decided if I want to buy this game, it seems like a massive undertaking.

I've had this game for awhile and always bounced off it. I figured your videos would finally get me over the initial hurdle by helping me better understand what I want to do and how to do it. Instead i've just realized I must protect Boso and that's good enough for me.

The Guppy is just absolutely gorgeous and really unique as you mention. I used it as my main player ship for many, many hours in X3. It's a bit large for a player ship, but it's reasonably fast despite its size. The only unfortunate thing is it losing its single external M-sized docking port in X4. It was really practical to have a medium freighter attached to the belly of your guppy in X3, which you could send on trading runs at stations where the L-sized Guppy couldn't dock.

fun fact: if you name your character Liz Truss, the queen dies shortly after you meet her

21:58 Well, I mean, building a Dyson Sphere (or equivalent) is considered pretty impressive, so actively moving five magnetars and a blue giant (or manipulating them to become those exact types) to a specific part of the galaxy into a specific formation while managing to make them be in exact synchronisation for however many (at least millions of) years it's been since they were first altered would likely fall under "These people have more power than God and usually tell Him how to run things"

I love the boron campaign. It was so nice to just have a generally kind of "feel good" set of events for once.

So when Perun said Dal was a consultant, my first thought was we've met X4's version of Max. Particularly so when he mentioned trying to start coups But I feel the whole manipulation of geopolitics for profit makes him more of a Nero the second He might even have gone full Soren on us

The Boron having a unique light carrier makes a lot of sense given their isolated situation; they don’t have the need or resources for something bigger, but having the flexibility of the Guppy is still very useful as a basing solution.

I wish they'd introduce KHK Ravager spawns to the Boron sectors to give it a sense of danger. As it stands, they're just as boring and safe as the Terran sectors. That, plus give the Borons a nice battleship so they can defend themselves properly. The Megalodon from X3: AP was one of my favs.

So, I had to do some Web searching for this "McKenzie School" and I _think_ Perun's referring to McKinsey & Company? A consulting firm involved in _so many_ controversies. That about right?

Watching this has also made me determined to defend the Boron with all my might, Terran or no. I'm also considering trying to like overthrow the Protecterate (if that's possible in game mechanics, this is my first run), so I will be needing friends and non-hostile space anyway.

This is the best X4 playthrough on YT, probably.

I would really like to see some ..... independent, pre-emptive raiding activities against a Xeno system. :) Thin out their numbers, maybe make a little profit from them... :D

21:00 - we can (right now) spot magnetars half way to the edge of the known universe, anything magnetar in the milk way, let alone a few sectors over would be "obvious" - they are amongst the brightest known xray and gamma ray sources ... this implies moving stars, then collapsing them into a neutron star, while maintaining a specific amount of angular momentum (to get the correct spin rate...)

I always forget about the story missions until I need access to something gated behind them. In my current game I've got multiple Destroyer fleets, two Shark Carriers in separate fleets that just melt anything they come up against, am currently in the process of clearing out the Xenon from all my known sectors, and I haven't even connected to Kingdom End yet.

How does verticality work in the game? You seem to be able to go up and down and yet the map is planar. Also were the Boron or the Salarians first? Curious similarities. The asteroid magnetar thing invoked some unpleasant Star Wars mapdagger associations...

Some times it feels like some of the questions could possibly be resolved by going to the Terrans and asking them how to do it instead... and then no one does so I guess. Makes one wonder about what shenanigans the Sohnen possibly did to achieve that. Admittedly the Terrans might not want to talk to much about their more advanced tech either I guess.

Question about X4 generally: is vertical integration generally the most efficient use of capital? Or can it be more cost effective to produce a valuable resource for money and then purchase finished products with credits?
