Even though I am a Brit and was willing some of our boys on, Xander is a very worthy winner and a true gentleman. He always looks after the little people (going back with balls for them even though he has just won the Open) and deliberately removes his hat to shake their hands. He is a great role model for the next generation.
Xander acknowledging his caddy, many forget, showed what a class act he is, as well as a great golfer-----and Justin Rose did us home fans proud as usual, great stuff.
This is just the coolest video ever! Just so good to see behind the scenes. The best bit was seeing Xander sign the St Andrews map, I was lucky enough to see this myself at Prestwick GC last year so it was amazing to see him add his signature to such a cool piece of memorabilia. Thanks to the R&A for another amazing tournament, the organisation and coverage just keeps getting better and better every year. And well done to Xander on another fantastic win, so good when a player who has been coming so close finally breaks through and then again, surely POTY?
Well done Xander - brilliant 65 to win it. Clean sweep of the majors for USA, first time since ‘82. Xander has matured incredibly with both his demeanor and his game over the past couple of years. A worthy champion.
World of golf is not concerned about clean sweeps. Who are you exactly sweeping? It’s concerned about great champions. Xander definitely seems to fit the bill and so does Justin Rose. But somedays the other guy is just too good.
They were talking about it a lot on the American broadcast. As an American, I simply do not care about the sweep. Frankly, I’d rather have Rory in there for the us open.
I am totally confident that Xander’s dad will find out some very fine red wines to be served from this claret jug. Very nice attentions from the R&A in the closed doors celebration with the winner and his caddie. The Prestwick GC map with all the Open champions signatures is quite a precious piece of history at the R&A !!
I am officially a Xander fan. I have appreciated his quality play for years....and often wondered how long it would take him to win his first major. I am shocked that he pulled it off twice this year. He is like a duck on a pond. All smooth on the surface and paddling like crazy underneath. He makes it look too easy. Congrats
A captivating final day. Four players were still in contention up until the 15th hole. Justin, Billy and Triston did not "throw it away". They all had great rounds but Xanders 65 deserved the Claret Hug. Golf is the winner.
Even if I had the golf game to compete at this level, the thousands of cameras everywhere recording every second and everything you say would stress me out 😂 Aside from their incredible talent in golf, I respect the heck out of them for being in front of the cameras all day, that can't be easy!
Is Scottie still the Player of the Year? He has 1 major and 5 total wins, 4 of which were signature wins at the Players, Memorial, Arnold Palmer, and The Masters. But Xander, with only 2 wins, were both Majors. Thoughts?
I’m sure Sheffler would give up the other wins, but the Masters to have the Open Championship, but as for your question, Sheffler deserves the player of the year award, but for now, there is no doubt that Zander is the best player in the world.
Correction- Scottie has SIX wins thus far, with the Travelers being a signature event as well. Let the season play out, and let's see what happens. Also, let's not forget to factor in the other top5 finishes both have recorded on their season's resumes.
Didn’t happen with Harmon. Didn’t happen with Morikawa. Didn’t happen with Scotty. Is LIV going broke or is it just that stinky money can’t buy everything ??
