The Most Fastest Bomber in the World You Have Never Seen
The North American Aviation XB-70 Valkyrie was the prototype version of the planned B-70 nuclear-armed, deep-penetration strategic bomber for the United States Air Force Strategic Air Command. Designed in the late 1950s by North American Aviation, the six-engined Valkyrie was capable of cruising for thousands of miles at Mach 3+ while flying at 70,000 feet (21,000 m).
At these speeds, it was expected that the B-70 would be almost immune to interceptor aircraft, the only effective weapon against bomber aircraft at the time. The bomber would spend only a few minutes over a particular radar station, flying out of its range before the controllers could position their fighters in a suitable location for an interception. High speed also made the aircraft difficult to see on radar displays and its high-altitude flight could not be matched by any contemporary Soviet fighter.

Could you tell me please where is now Paradise Inn Motel which was about two minutes walk from the central entrance?? It was on Huberville Ave I believe

Would've been interesting to see how well it would perform today, by installing the F135-PW-100 engines that are used in the F-35. Dimensionally, they'd fit. Looking at the numbers, the airframe would have some of the following increased: speed, range, altitude, and/or payload.
@zeitgeistx5239
@zeitgeistx5239 3 года назад
Different engines designed for different purposes. It was designed to operate at 75,000 ft something modern aircraft enginea are not designed for. The F-35's engine starve from lack of oxygen before ever reaching that height. Engines are designed for certain characteristics. They dont operate based on magic but careful planning at the design stage.

I'm kinda an aviation nerd and like to fly in flight simulator using this plane. My question is at 5:30. Why does it need parachutes to stop? The small flaps at the front when deployed allow the aircraft to land at 150-160 knots. That's not much faster than other aircraft. The tire brakes work just fine. I guess the parachutes are good if you land a bit hot or on a short runway, but these aircraft have a WIDE range in speed.
@winternow2242
@winternow2242 3 года назад
Because the B-70 is much larger and heavier than other aircraft, use of brakes would involve more wear and tear than on lighter and smaller aircraft, many of which also used chutes.

That is awesome, your father sounds like a great person! You can find this remaining XB-70 at the WPAFB in Dayton Ohio. I got to see this aircraft while in AFROTC when it was moved over to the museums experimental hanger in the secure section before all the others arrived. Shes quite an amazing aircraft. The museum also has an SR-71, its predecessor the YF-12, and a few other cool exotics from the past. If you ever have an opportunity to check out the whole museum, it's well worth the trip from anywhere.

@winternow2242 3 года назад
When did Russia ever threaten war over this airplane?
@winternow2242
@winternow2242 3 года назад
@@fmtfniuprog8029 not likely. The B-70 had already been canceled as a weapons system in 1961, while T4 was built in response to a Russian RFP in 1963. The 1st plane wasn't built until 1971, by which time, the B-70 had been sitting in a museum for 2 years. T4 is physically distinct in several ways, and may not have reached mach 3. I don't even know if T4's design made use of "compression lift".

Ok, So this is supposed to have been a bomber. What type of payload it will carry? From what I see, it can't be too much since it's a cockpit sitting in front of a rocket. Drop anything from it and seems that it would hit the plane first before hitting a target.

I don't understand why nobody reactivates this plane and modify it to a passenger plane. The engines have enough power and to be more rentable it doesn't have to fly with mach 3. It could fly with mach 2. After 70 years I think there are engines that are more efficient. Some things are dreams and will stay dreams !
@winternow2242
@winternow2242 3 года назад
For one thing, they never got past the sonic boom problem. Also, turning it into an airliner wouldn't have accomplished by modification, but would have required a full blown redesign. NA submitted a design for America's SST, but carried the least passengers of all 3, and had the shortest range of both its American SST competitors, and the SSTs that actually did enter service.
