Consoles are designed to sell you software. And software is what MS is dominating across the industry. They just had a big showcase and about to do their biggest Gamescom yet. MS will dominate via Software.

I feel like they just didn’t have the information on the bottom of the trailer to not paint themselves into a corner dictated by Date. Or year. But I’m going to admit, I really really like this idea.

I'm not certain if it's sunk-cost fallacy, but I think an early (2026) console release is a terrible idea. It could benefit 1st party devs but 3rd party will face the same difficulties as this gen. Publishers want to maximize customer base but allocating resources to supposedly 3 Xbox SKUS alongside PC & PS5 seems daunting. They'll have to make the difficult decisions to either delay release or exclude certain SKUs (maybe the entire platform since resetting the console gen puts it with a lower customer base). With regards to the Xbox 360 comparisons, MS became a competitive platform partly due to Sony's excessive PS3 pricing, hardware difficulties for 3rd party devs, infrastructure issues (PSN hack), and Xbox's 3rd party exclusive push. PS4 success was built upon a thriving 1st party portfolio and Xbox replicating many of these failures from the previous gen. I'm not confident that an early console release would replicate any previous success; especially since consumer confidence is somewhat mixed for the Xbox brand.

A very good analysis! I am definitely getting 360 vibes from the setup of this next launch. I am just not sure what they are going to do with Halo "7". I know you made a video about Halo already but would love to hear more of your thoughts/speculations as the next launch gets closer.

I've legit been saying the same thing for the past year. That's insane how the trend was obvious from the spoofed release of the teaser of ES6. It was so obvious that they knew it wouldn't work on series, that they just bumped the release date.

I think Microsoft is going into next gen 1 year early simply because the Series S has become a problem for developers. Now that Microsoft owns over 32 developers and they're probably giving feedback on how hard it is to polish games for 2 systems. 2026 I expect Xbox to launch a new console and a handheld at the same time. Instead of a series S, the handheld will be the secondary option. Jez did say Gears and State of Decay might be 2025 ready, but they can be pushed back to get out of GTA6 way. Clockwork Revolution, State of Decay 3, Gears, Blade, OD, Perfect Dark, Everwild, The Elder Scrolls 6, The Outer Worlds 2 will all be 2026/27 titles 343, Double Fine, Playground games, Blizzard, Activision, Toys For Bob all have games being worked on.

We're not getting a Series X mid gen upgrade. So it makes sense for them to just launch next generation early. To regain the most powerful console status from PS5 Pro within a year or 2. And they will have a fantastic launch lineup. And who knows what else they're going to do.

I haven’t been deeply into gaming since 2013. Recently started taking interest in gaming again while looking up its history going back into the 1970’s. I’ve been an Xbox guy since 2004. When I began looking up the sales of the Microsoft and Sony console wars…yeah I wasn’t surprised when MS had to admit publicly that they have been lagging behind Sony since 2001. But this gets me a little excited again for their new system. I can’t wait to see what they have in store for the new Xbox come 2026!

so ive been an xbox-first player ever since the OG Xbox and i honestly dont think the brand will ever be on top like it was with the 360 (id argue the OG Xbox was also the best in its generation in every aspect other than sales and exclusives compared to the GameCube+PS2 but thats a diff topic for another time). For me, i dont think its a matter of exclusives to draw people into buying an Xbox. The 360 is the greatest of all time because of its features and capabilities, whether we're talking about their UI design and seemless dashboard navigation, the backwards compatibility, the online social features like friends list, party chat and recent players as well as messaging, NO REQUIRED GAME INSTALLS (PS3 and Wii had this too, along with consoles of the past but i mean dam...those times were so good, xbox should rly somehow create a new type of disc or cartridge that we can play off of), AND one of most reliable online services u could ask for during that generation (and arguably throughout most of the Xbox One era; yes xbox live suffered hacks and breaches like PSN, but the severity was FAR less than PSN; thus is why i dont mind paying for an online service if its the best in the industry). the OG Xbox and 360 are the ONLY xbox consoles i bought the standard edition of. The Xbox One was absolutely crap value at launch and i waited for the bs to be fixed/removed (like the kinect being bundled) along with a 1TB version of the console to come out. Similar thing with the Series X, i waited for a good value before buying it, which was the standard Series X but with the official 1TB expansion card bundled with it for just about the same standard price ($499). THIS is an example of what im talking about w/ Xbox and why ive been frustrated with them since 2013: if you don't show me something unique or exclusive to ur platform and all u hav done is upgraded ur hardware from last gen, why tf would i be excited for the next gen console? And i know this last point kinda doesn't matter but holy fk were the Xbox One and Series era console designs some of the worst designs ever. Like, where's the creativity? I'm really hoping they do a super cool/badass console design like that early prototype OG Xbox they showcased (the console was literally shaped in an X design, with the green xbox logo in the center; it was so fkn dope, i dont even care if that meant the console would only run as strong as a Series S, id buy that one ez). Would making console exclusives or even FULL (unavailable even on PC) exclusives boost their next-gen consoles? It's definitely possible. But, ever since social apps like Discord came out, and PC gaming has become a bit more mainstream since the early 2010s, there's rly nothing about the last 2 gens of consoles that they do that a PC can't. And, Xbox has made it clear for almost a decade now that they are focusing on their "Play Anywhere" scheme/ecosystem. If we see another non-innovative/revolutionary/unique feature heavy next gen Xbox, i stand by the prediction of the next gen Xbox being the last one that Microsoft allows their Xbox Team to do before pulling the plug on further generations of Xbox, joining the console discontinuation brands of Sega and Atari.

It's a bold fan theory and i can respect that. However, i think 2 things. first; not having the xbox symbol or a generic one is the fact that xbox games can be played on multiple platforms. Console, PC and mobile devices. The sheer thought can be overwhelming to try and explain to someone that theyre trying to bring over. The focus could be them trying to focus on their label since the front line focus of xbox now is Game Pass. Which brings me to my second point... Game pass' biggest sell point is not that you can just play games on it but you can play top AAA titles the day they release. They absolutely NEED to push out AAA titles cause theyre not gonna keep people subscribed just on indie titles. They have consoles to sell, and they need games. Reason theyre not getting a release date, that i see, is similar to how they "bait and switched" us into the current gen xbox. 2 of those 4 games were announced years ago. "Hey, we have all these studios, Great games are coming!" Question is...When??? I know they have a team focusing on the next Gen console, however...If they pull what theyve done for the last 2 generations with a whole lot of hardware but no games, the next gen console release will be a seldom one. Now, im not saying it'll be the death of xbox. Game pass is super awesome! I mostly use it on my PC and Xbox One.... yup, i did not see the reason to move forward onto console this Gen cause I'm playing it safe with being able to play the same games on my PC with a lot more power and not twirl my thumbs waiting on a AAA release to use the $500 piece of hardware. Unless they can get their credit back up on Releasing games, ill stick to my other platforms to play game pass. Xbox Series S is NOT lowering games ! Look at Hellblade 2, Alan Wake 2, Flight Sim', etc... For BG3, devs' were not aware on how to optimize their games and Xbox teach them and all hardware benefits from what they learned from Xbox. Moreover Larian is a small independant team that did not have budget for making a synchronized released across all platforms. For Black Myth Wukong, the studio has a deal with Sony. Xbox cannot comment on those deals. nothing to do with Xbox Series S. All the devs' are making Xbox Series S versions of the game, even huge games like Starfield. Almost half of people who bought an Xbox Series S are new to Xbox !

I agree with you that those games (perfect dark, SOD3, GEARS, Blade, OD and etc.) Would probably be close to the lunch of their next gen consoles and they can market those games as an next gen game in their showcases. But i think they would still release those games on xbox series too (at least perfect dark and SOD, because they have marketed these consoles with those games in 2020) But just like halo infinite and FH5, they would market those games as a next gen game. i was curious about those trailer that you mentioned and i rewatched the xbox showcase again and saw the MGS snake eater trailer and that didn't have any labels as well. Same as elder Scrolls vi trailer and indiana jones announcement trailer. Maybe it's because they're far away but I'm sure MGS would release on xbox series consoles. But overall😂 (sorry for the long comment) With the potential of having all these games, alongside the potential IW cod game, next halo game, next FH, next double fine game and more, the first 2/3 years of that generation would be MASSIVE. That, games that didn't get the label Series XS will be released only on the next Xbox hardware? So they can sell more units because of the "insane line-up"? You can add Everwild, Contraband and The Outer Worlds 2 then, those game reveals didn't get any label as well. But wait, last year Fable didn't have any label as well but now it's scheduled for 2025 on Series consoles... From now on, every year will have 6-8 first party titles released. This is inevitable due to the number of teams Microsoft has working on new games. More than 35 games are developed at any time, even with a dev cycle of 6 years, that makes 6 games per year. So if the games are good, every year will be a great year for Xbox.

All ps5 exclusive games are actually made on last gen engines so they are not next gen games and not utilizing the systems full potential. I do like the points you said and it kinda makes sense about how its coming together

honestly I wouldn't care about price if it's $600-700 for a device that's gonna be releasing 2 years earlier than it's competitor. I also haven't bought a console since the first Xbox One so I'm due for an upgrade

pretty solid theory, I am intrigued and hope it comes to fruition. It is a solid one with the lack of console markers on those trailers, and if they release all those bangers on a next gen system with 2 full years of market dominance, I would hope that they would sway massive amounts of users away from sony. Time will tell I guess.

man I loves yo takes on the xbox direction...I think you right, and just to add to that it wouldn't surprise me if all 3 do this very thing goin forward...it seems to work better for each company when you don't HAVE to compete for consumer dollars and interest...this is the age of video games where they are the most preferred form of entertainment...most who can, own all 3, and while it is competitive it's not about which 1 as much as which 1 is gone have the most games for me to play

I think they’re going to make 2 new consoles for 2026. They’re going to have their strongest console yet and also on a lower scale they’re going to make a handheld that has the windows gaming market that they’re trying to build right now.

Tell me if you have heard this same tag line before when the series X launched?!? Xbox show case had a lot of games announced but how many will prompt gamers to switch? There is a reason why the Pro is comming this year. Two years before the next Xbox. It is a place holder for the PS6 against what ever MS tries to do. There is a reason why Sony is holding back its big guns for 2025 and beyond and why they have been so quiet….almost as if they are waiting for Xbox to show what they are planning?!?

Next Xbox console will use Nvidia cloud graphics data centres piping direct gaming to the console, the console itself will be nothing more than an interface with different tiers of graphical services being sold, but the console will retain (with slightly updated architecture) series X internals for download, play and storage locally. Next big announcement will be Nvidia AI and Xbox partnership - bringing AI gaming to the Xbox game development. The next generation will be all about getting as much money out of you as possible by buying ultra high resolution graphics packages from Xbox / Nvidia cloud directly to the console, along with having to pay for Xbox Live on top etc etc…

I switched to Xbox from a lifetime of Playstation and to be honest I am underwhelmed on what has been delived. I left PS because of the lack of games and the direction they were heading in. I saw Redfall and Starfield and with the knowledge of ES6 being exclusive and needing games I switched to play the old library I missed while PC gaming. While I still owned every Xbox except the Xbone I always used my PS when not PC gaming. Fast forward a decade and Redfall was a disappointment and Starfield was good but it was far from what I expected it to be but still a good game but definitely a one and done for now for me the. G plus didn't impress or interest me at all as a matter of fact I just deleted it to make more room. I have now went back to PC gaming because Xbox is pretty slow at delivering. I did keep game pass PC but quit Ultimate because PC has so many avenues for games . I hope my Series X will get more than just 2 years albeit long hours and good use out of it,will continue. We will see when the games come out because for any gamer that has been doing g this a long time games can be delayed for any reason so will all of these games come out when they say we will see. Also the biggest tech leap doesn't mean graphical power leap. I bet the next leap is api chips from AMD using on board graphics and AI. Technical leap is a. Road statement so we will see what is marketing and what is real world truth. I think several games will get delayed just because they have so many going. Great vid I enjoyed it.

If Microsoft can nail down forward and backward compatibility with a high fidelity cloud gaming experience and Gamepass, it would be insane.

With their dominant position in AI, I would have no doubts they're putting their private models to work on things like encode/decode algorithms specifically to make streaming games nearly-seamless. Just look at YT vids; high def/ultra high def video that can be livestreamed, that's a shitload of bits, and they've cracked this over-the-wire problem perfectly. Gaming is right behind it. If they pull it off, just like Netflix being essentially required to be downloaded on any and every hardware device, gamepass will be too. Calling it/been saying it for over a yr now, there won't be a 'next console' and it'll just be a download and sub.

The reality is if you buy a series X its more powerful than anything Nintendo puts out and Sony. You get access to dev mode which allows you to emulate all Nintendo and Sony 1st party games on one console on top of that you have access to the best subscription in gaming and if you don’t want to pay for online you have the option of buying a PC with all your digital library carrying over via Xbox smart delivery its the best platform in gaming and is providing more triple A titles than Sony Nintendo and PC combined

I love this theory. This was one of my theories as well, and my biggest backup is the patterns. In 2018-19 Xbox yalked about their next gen console In 2024-25 Xbox is talking about theor next console. Xbox has been on record to say this generation will be shorter than the 7-8 years of last generation. Im 2023, every game from Xbox first party thay didn't have a release date - has gotten a 2025 release date - now in 2024 Gears, Perfect Dark, State of Decay etc... dont have release date.

Great insight but I just don’t see Xbox being on top. It’s about games and this is the first time in a while that they have a lineup. If they keep this slow pace up, it’s not gonna matter. Nice video. I think Gears of War E-day will come out fall 2025, and Perfect Dark 2026. I think the new xbox will come out in late 2026 with titles like Halo or Forza near the launch of the console and eventually we will get better versions of Gears Of War E-day and a bunch of other titles. Im pretty sure there wont be a "series S" but a handheld alongside the main console is pretty much confirmed. I also think Ps6 will come out in late 2027 because if its 2028 Im worried the difference between hardwares is going to be HUGE and xbox will have to launch a kinda of "one X".

Thats a stretch, specially considering that games have better margin than consoles, consoles just exist as a venue to get the games to people, they probably keep xbox's coming, but their goal should be on cloud tech and using the studios to get revenue from the games ( no wonder sony was so afraid of losing cod, they generate a fuckton of profits not just revenue)

I think Microsoft have played the game right this gen. For me the ps5 and Xbox have been poor this gen but Phil had a plan when he came into Xbox and has been putting things together. Yes they lose this gen but set everything in motion and also get 3rd party's onboard with devices like Rog Ally ect but if they look at Microsoft push all its ips on release year of the next gen console could be massive for them like it was for the 360. Definitely interesting times

I've always felt that something big was coming since Gamepass annoncement + of course Activision acquisition, i mean it's obvious that they were looking for IP's, they couldn't afford to play on time in order to build new lovable IP's unlike what Sony has with their 1st party studios and Japans support as a whole. On the other MS is a trillion dollar company sometimes people tend to forget that, which SONY is also guilty of, all these decades Sony doing everything they can in order to handicap or slow Xbox progression/evolution, until MS decided to take the wheel and everybody started crying. Now it's wait and see i guess. IMO once the ps5 pro comes out, Xbox might as well give up on next gen hardware. Their hardware is struggling right now and nothing seems to be changing that. The Pro will give PlayStation such a large market share, that it could be pointless for Xbox to make new hardware.

Unless it's offered at a ridiculous low price. Most people don't move if they're 110% into an ecosystem. This is both sides. Just going by the current sales outside of the USA. It would have to be given away to get more people to move back or over. Especially PS peeps. Just as an example the latest 3 month sales in the Euro Zone. PS5 sold 1.8 million, Series consoles less than 400,000. They're going to have to do something special to make those numbers up. All a 2 year head start is going to do is give Xbox fans a more powerful console for a couple of years. Which they already got with the series X
