Thank you, Adam. The information in this video was exactly what I needed to fix my six-year-old console. I appreciate you taking the time to make and post the video.
Thank you, with all my heart thank you. For so long my Xbox was broken with the black screen of death and no other channel or website was giving me what I needed to fix it. I was rummaging around to see if I could find a way to solve the problem and I found this video, it worked, I had been the only helpful piece of knowledge for fixing my issue. Once again, thank you.
I think people have an aversion to taking the stickers off of the items they buy. Like the chip set stickers on laptops, or The brand stickers on baseball hats
I thought it was part of the Xbox. I have a question can you set it to update manually? I think the update is what made the black screen am I right? How much longer will this work Xbox One? Is it still snowing out there on Grand Theft Auto V?
VCR Xbox One is the best for Kinect. Not that Kinect was anywhere as robust as the 360. However, it does have the proprietary connection that got scrubbed off of the One S and One X.
Lol, I thought this was going to be the issue I had on my X1X but it was COMPLETELY Black Screen whenever I'd use it (Boot Up from Rest and a Full Shutdown... Safe Mode Screen) luckily I only got it at the start of the Year so I took it back for a Free Exchange at EB Games, they only had White X1X Systems so I was kinda annoyed before I saw an X1X behind the Glass Case behind the counter which I was able to swap for... Turned out to be a Project Scorpio Edition, glad the one I had Black Screened now 🤣 👍
Thanks, Adam. You’re now my favourite Gamesocietypimp. I hadn’t switched on my Xbox in years and was worried that it was bricked, but this worked perfectly
Man its been a while since I have seen an original Xbox One be booted up. I remember getting this model in 2014 i believe, I really wanted a PS4 but I had a bunch of friends on Xbox Live that were Xbox loyal (they were still holding on to the 360 glory days) and I ultimately decided to pickup the XB1 with them. Looking back I don't really regret it, we had some fun and I was happy to be getting a new console!
Thanks for the public service announcement Adam. My vcr version is tucked up in a box waiting for the day to be freed and placed on the shelf with all its brothers and sisters. That day will be soon 😀 (whether it’s still working or not is another matter though but this tutorial at least gives me some tips if I see this problem) 👍
I think microsoft bricked my xbox console with a new update, they want to sell more, so they manipulate the consoles with them. Thanks it worked for me!
You just saved me a bunch of money! I was considering buys a series S just so I can play my owned games but the first option you talked about fixed my console after MONTHS! Thank you so much man!!!!
My wife and I decided, because we really have no space for our Xbox One anymore and we don’t really use it, to sell our console. I plugged it in to wipe it, and the thing required the stupid update that caused the damn bricking. After following your advice, I restored it to factory conditions, which was what I wanted in the first place. Thank you.
OMG - you are a legend!! My daughter's XBox One has been out of commission for almost 3 years. I have googled and tried several methods to reboot in safe mode or get to the reset option. I was ready to scrap it then I found this you-tube! Thank you for clear instructions (most have the hold the two buttons for 10 secs then power on - no wonder it never worked). Thank you for bringing her XBox back to life! We did the clear everything and starting from scratch!
Thanks for the very informative video. Worth mentioning when it comes to the Xbox One, there's no "series" in the naming scheme. It's just "Xbox One X". The "Series" nomenclature is only for the new generation of Xbox consoles.
@@AdamKoralik I don't think I would've worded it that way especially since it's never mentioned in the video, but okay I understand what you were trying to say.
Omg! Thank you so much! I watched two other video and I followed their steps and I couldn’t understand what I was doing wrong. Then I watched this video and you slowed down the steps and then I understood what I was doing wrong. You saved my Xbox!!!!
My problem with my Xbox One X was random game crashes. I solved it by disabling instant start. However with the Series X, it's been going well until I just got Tales of Arise. It's starting to have random chashes. I hope I don't have to disable Quick Resume because it's my favorite Xbox feature. Quick Resume and the Controller having removable batteries are the sole reason I'm using the Series X platform. I love the feel of the PS5 controller, but the terrible battery life in their controller and bad UI pushed me away.
I just went thru this a couple of weeks ago - my OG XBox one started doing the black screen after an update. Just did the safe recovery and the reset, now everything is back to normal.
Tried the whole pressing eject and sync buttons at the same time while turning Xbox on multiple times and not once has anything popped on the screen. Still shows either a blank green screen or a blank black screen. It’s been 2 days and I’m about to lose my god damn mind. Update: replaced my hdmi cable with a different one and it’s work fine now.
This is a great solution to a problem I never knew could happen. While my Xbox vcr is packed away, I'll keep this in mind. Now I just need to figure out why my Series X doesn't play nice with my Oled TV. It will go blank when switching to games.
Some people where having the same issue including myself with the Series X after the last update. It wasn't the black screen, but it was that the console would freeze, kick you out of a game or it wasn't reconnecting properly with an external HDD. So I did the reset all but keep the app and games, and Voila it was fixed. Doing a hard reboot by holding the power button wouldn't fix the problem. Microsoft suggested we did it through the settings menu.
FINALLY I've had this Xbox one sitting around thinking it was done for for almost a year and I got bored of the few Playstation games I have so I decided to give it another shot, I've had this thing since launch day and I'm really glad it's working again I never would have thought to boot it in safe mode. Thank you tons
DUDE THANK YOU!! Support didn't even mention this tactic for troubleshooting!! After almost 20 hours of fighting with Support and troubleshooting this is the one thing that worked!! Thank you so much brother!!
"after the update's over.." I think some of these are directly related to updates. I've had my Xbox One X since Christmas 2017 and never had a problem until two days ago. I was playing Gears of War 2 and the screen began flickering and then I got no signal/black screen. I did factory reset, it seemed to be ok for a while and would again flicker, no signal. Unplugging the hdmi cable and plugging it back in would sometimes give ma picture again. The hdmi cable is fine as I use it on my ps4 without issue. Edit: As of right now, it's working ok and has been for near 30 minutes. It's very strange.
Thank you for your help! Would you recommend doing this if you have purchased games through your Xbox One and haven't yet transferred it over to your external harddrive? Worried that I would lose the game itself not just the data.
Thank you so much. I watched so many videos and I couldn't work out why it was not working (had to unplug first). Your video has saved me from buying a new xbox. Thank you so much 💓
My original xbox vcr fried after about 2 years of use because my external hard drive had corrupted.. pretty annoying stuff. Now I got the Series X and that fried after about a month and a half (got it on launch day). I have terrible luck with hardware. Lol, thanks for the video though, may come in handy one day.
I know it may be different for some people, but it just happened to me my first time last night and I just unplugged it all night and in the morning I plugged it back in and it worked, back to normal
Me and my girlfriend are currently having a hard time seeing each other in person because of family vacations we are both taking. So i wanted to fix her xbox in order to spend some time with her even if it is virtual. I had no idea why the screen was black. I found this RU-vid video and followed along. Now her xbox works perfect. Couldnt thank you enough for the help.
I knew how to do the factory reset, as I did so to set my Xbox to US to get access to Phantasy Star Online 2. However I was unaware of the black screen of death. I've not played my Xbox much since around 2 years after launch where I mainly swapped to the PS4, but this is good to know in the event I do get black screened.
THANK YOU!! After 1 year and a month without my xbox I can finally play again!! I had talked to microsoft support, other gamers, repairs people, nobody knew what to do to fix it! My case was as it follows: I was playing GTA IV when I decided to take a shower and left the game on. When I came back the tv was showing no signal. I had a samsung tv back then, and shared it between the xbox one fat and a ps4 pro. I tried changing hdmi cables and all sorts of stuff and nothing worked, and the ps4 pro continued to work normally with everything. My Xbox showed nothing, not even the screen when you hold the controller buttom. I had to do the safe mode and reset steps completely blind here, choose the one that saves the games ‘cause I have a lot of saves there. Anyway, after some time in the dark, the image came back for me to do the controller steps like in the video! The only issue was some hours later, after I had turned it off, when I turned it back on it showed no signal for some time, then the image started flickering, it went to low res by itself. The flickering stopped after some time and I could play again, but if it continues like this I might just do the complete reset to make sure. Anyway thank you so much my man! You solved the unsolvable with simple steps!
@@Reflexx1 dude, this fix unfortunately only lasted for a week or so and then I had to try again, and all the time it lasted less. The last time I tried I choose the option to delete everything. Only worked for a day. Im picking a trustworthy repair shop to fix it, but not really a priority right now. So to answer your question, I only lost data when I choose to. Perhaps you choose that option by mistake.
Thank you for the video. I was about to give up hope but you really helped me figure things out. I had read a few different fix articles but nothing seemed to work, but your video explained it so well. I tried the keep my games and stuff method. It seems to have worked! I am back in! Thank you so much!
Mine stays on the loading screen a long time then turns to black. I've only had it for 3 years? Is there a way to replace it that doesn't cost over a $100. I don't care what Microsoft fan boys say, the Xbox 360 worked way better. At least the PlayStation's still read discs.
Man great video I think it worked for me I havent fired up my old VCR xb1 in 6 months until tonight and boom this happens Searched the net for a hour before I found your video Thanks again!!
Thank you so much!!! I tried like 10 other solutions and none of them worked and I was just about to give up when I found this and it worked perfectly!
Thank you so much. I followed your video and my Xbox One works now. EB games said they weren’t prepared to trade the machine and had to pay for repairs first. This is my 2nd Xbox at home so I don’t need another Series X
Thabk you so much. This helped. I've had my Xbox one sitting for a couple of years. My son is 3 now and I wanted to set it up for him. Of course I turn it on and it asked for an update. I did it. Right after it restarted I got this black screen. I did your method and reset it completely back to factory. It worked as your video showed. Now my 3 yr old can enjoy playing some games and the system isn't useless.
I had to hold the eject and sync buttons BEFORE turning to get to the menu and I also used the choice to keep apps and so far so good. Thanks for the info
I actually had this issue back in 2016 but no troubleshooting fixed it for me so I sent it back to Microsoft for $120 and they gave me one back with a broken disc drive so I sent it back a second time (for free) and then it worked fine again. I later gave that Xbox to a friend since I upgraded to an Xbox One X and that 3rd replacement model still works fine to this day. My guess is that the HDD went bad but at the time replacing the HDD in an Xbox One was still a headache so I never cared to try it.
Always interesting to me seeing the second rev of the VCR with the matte top, all the ones I’ve seen are glossy. I always had strange issues with my original Xbox One not turning on, sometimes it worked sometimes it did not. Sometimes the power brick didn’t light up at all.
