Xbox One Elite Thumbsticks On A Nintendo Switch Pro Controller? 

I did this exact thing a while ago and after about 9 days I noticed the metal was grinding away the plastic of the controller housing. Unless you're *extremely* careful with your controllers, I definitely don't recommend this, especially if you play Splatoon.

I just purchased a pro controller yesterday and didn't like the pro controller thumbsticks so when I saw this recent vid I figured I could basically swap the pro thumbsticks also but with thumbsticks of old xbox one controller (I use for parts) that no longer works. Well, the result for me is waaay better than the pro controller thumbsticks. The thumbsticks don't get stuck and it works perfectly. I believe if my result was great then the elite thumbsticks perhaps can be great too. Idk, if your not fully convinced on the elite thumbsticks, perhaps u should try out my method if you have an old xbox controller lying around. P.S thanks Spawn for this video I'm definitely gonna try out the elite thumbsticks.

Do you have one of these videos for the PS4 controller? I was looking on the channel but didn't find them and even though I can find other people on youtube doing it, you're the most reliable one that I can trust with these things.

Stuff like this is why your channel is valuable. I watch these for the same reason I watched Leo Laporte and Patrick Norton as a kid. Casual absorption of info you’d otherwise possibly never come across. The fact these fit is awesome. I’m primarily a PC gamer and I was already considering getting one of these to replace my shitty OG One controller that just cracked apart. Now I want to do it alongside modding a controller for the first time in a decade. Without this possibility and the existence of DSr I’d have probably gone to my grave not modifying jack shit, but this I gotta have. Wonder if someone will find a way to replace the triggers. A generation ago that was ridiculous, but now with every college having a 3D printer, so long as the changes fit in the available space someone could do it. Imagine a Switch Pro controller that came standard with magnetic sticks and GameCube style triggers with little divots for your fingers and a large amount of travel before that oh so satisfying final click. Not only is that idea awesome, it’s inherently necessary for GCN games to be playable without the controller and adapter. So many rely on that analog travel leading to a final sort of “turbo” like Rogue Leader’s flight mode in the X Wing or the Fludd in Mario Sunshine.

This helped me to just clean the inside of the joystick. My left joystick was having a slight drift problem where if I stood still my character would slowly drift backwards. Real annoying. So I took it apart & cleaned the inside with a can of compressed air. It wasn't really dusty or anything but when I put it back together it fixed the problem. So the smallest amount of dust can throw off your joystick. Also, note the the battery ribbon to take it out & in there is a little black leverage that covers the blue part of the ribbon. You just lift it up to take it out & close it on top of the ribbon when you connect it. When I put it together the first time the controller wouldn't turn on then I realized it was cause the ribbon wasn't connected properly. Don't be afraid to do this. If I can do it then you can too.

Really good tech vid Jon(SW). This is a quality and very nice mod too do on the Switch Pro-Con too give it that premium feel n look, all we need now is the SNES D-Pad on the Pro-Con aswell, then we are cooking :-).

I’ve been binge watching your tech videos playlist. Recently your joy-con deconstruction/breakdown video. And I’m *SOOO* glad I watched that. I had a (L) neon blue joy-con drifting (up/down) problem. Wanted to take mine apart to try and fix it, decided against it, the controller was under warranty. Nintendo let me overnight it etc. the complexity of the joy con that you showed us, was way out of my league. But I appreciate all your content & thank you!

I recently gave this a try. My metal sticks stuck. I tried loosening the screws. I had some success, but even with the screws *very* loose, it would still get stuck on occassion. Big bummer.

Do the sticks fall out easily? I feel like if you are rough with it or throw it in a bag or something, they would fall off and get lost

Does the movement on those Xbox elite sticks feel more fluid than the Switch pro controller ones?

I’d like to mod my PS 4 D-Pad to make it pop out of the controller shell more and have it make the click sound and feel, it’s just too soft for my liking.

Jon can you please try doing a proper mod for the Switch Pro Controller D-pad? Pieces of tape are fine, but that doesn't fix the feel.

One question: Do the magnets in the thumsticks effect the functionality of Amiibo? For instance the ability to load or save to them? My guess is the magnets are probably not strong enough to interfere with the NFC reader...Just curious.

Installed this exact kit into my SN30 Pro Plus, I had to cut down on the nubs on the analog mechanisms in order for them to fit but tinkering with them for a while I finally got a decent fit. I wouldn't actually recommend the kit I used because the rubber on the analog sticks that it comes with feels very cheap, it's a very hard and slick type of rubber and your thumbs do not grip onto them at all especially on the domed sticks. I'd recommend buying the magnetic base and then buying official OEM elite sticks separately.

Are all of the screws the same. What I is mean when you're putting things back together does it matter in which order the screws go, or are you able to put them anywhere a screw hole is?

I've been considering this more and more as now my switch pro controllers analog sticks have started drifting. It was a problem I had with my joy-cons as well and it appears that it's somewhat common. Would be better to try changing it instead of buying a new one or sending it to nintendo every few months.

I actually like the dome sticks with the elite controller the most. I don't understand why I like them, because I always the convex style thumb pads on Playstation controllers. I might try this mod out! And the new overhead camera looks good!

I just did this mod and I have to say, the right stick is working really, really well! Wish I had done this sooner. But I'm having some issues with the left stick, arguably the more important one. It's just as smooth as the right until I put the grips back on (the last part), after which it gets really sticky and tight. The left stick is fine during all of this. I'm willing to try to file down the shell as a last resort, but do I have any other options?

I made a custom metal piece for the gates so they dont wear out with this thumbstick, and overall it feels perfect now. without the metal piece they didn't feel as good as the original elite

I have the Elite controller and use the dome sticks - mainly because the patterned edge of the short sticks chew up my fingers in Forza Horizon 4. Not sure why that is the case, but it is the case. Also is the original PS1 dual shock dome sticks as well? If so then I'm probably used to the feel for driving games from having wasted so much of my life playing Gran Turismo 2.

How does the height of the short Xbox one elite thumb sticks compare to the pro controllers sticks?

I did it to my ps4 controller about a year ago. Although it's a much harder mod as taking the ps4 controller apart is harder and the triggers are a pain. As you may have to sit the triggers back in. Too make it easier you need picks and pry tools. Maybe even tiny pets for the ribbon cables. There is one great video on RU-vid dieing how to do ps4 if anyone is interested.

I think it's ridiculous that controllers don't have modular analog sensor boxes yet. The part that wears out the most is the actual mechanical box with the spring and potentiometers. Maybe they do still work after half the range of motion is turned into dead zone but I find they last practically infinitely longer if you cut the springs down, a procedure which is probably about as time consuming and tedious as heart surgery.

So I put some XB1 sticks in my pro controller and the sticks rub when moving to the top left. Does anyone have any recommendations to fix? Or suggest a link to some good sticks maybe.

I've been looking for something like this! I got a cheap 3rd party Switch controller that is pretty much an XB1 controller. I like it, but it has a small battery and is light/cheap feeling.

The new camera is a good move, vast improvement over the GP.

I put standard OEM Xbox One thumbsticks in both of Switch Pro controllers and my PS4 controllers... I just think they have the best feel and grip to them...

Nice video. I’ve never found a video that takes different parts to make one controller. I’m trying to find pro controllers for PS4 like scuf and. Aim. And battle beaver and making one pro controller for PS4. Scuf INFINTY share the original ds4 body. Their face shell just has friction rings so I would use the face she’ll and put it on aim controller that has the better back paddle system. And the elite thumb sticks but painted like black or stealth like the elite series 2. Dm for details.

I saw a guy did both elite thumbsticks and the elite D-Pad in his pro controller, but in his later videos he removed the D-Pad without explanation as to why. Have you tried putting the xbox D-pad in a switch pro controller?

I’d just go straight for a Brook X-One. It lets you use any X1 controller on any current system.

Metal rubbing on plastic. It’ll eventually break in. I may do this with the Atomic Purple shell but I honestly don’t like the logos on the the shells.

All controllers should use these replaceable caps; OEM parts can make money for the companies and on something like a switch, you get many more carry/case options since you can pack the thing flatter without worrying about messing up your joysticks.

I've used that exact kit on some of my controllers the thumbsticks are very poor quality. The magnets are not as strong as the actual Elite controller so sometimes they fall off. If there was a kit that was more like the actual Elite controller it would be a much better upgrade. But most of the kits that I have used, I have used quite a few the actual thumbsticks themselves are poor plastic or Rubber and the magnets are not strong enough.

hi love ur videos , question still have not bought the switch but i love it and 100% going to buy one but here is my problem i can wait to see what the new switch will be like and decide then but while waiting i would like to build up my games collection so here is the question is there any chance at all that the new switch wont run the current games (physical games i mean ) and do you think waiting is a good option ( i am not the type to collect gaming devices so when i buy one i prefer to buy the best available option thus the waiting) thanks waiting for a replay.

The only problem I see with this mod is that the sticks might rub the outer plastic shell away because those metal sticks and could end up in getting another replacement shell for the controller
