In an effort to get some more life out of the old XBOX One I have upgraded its hard drive to a 1 TB SSD.
Tools and Equipment used:
Small Screw Drivers - amzn.to/40ZIHTn
USBs - amzn.to/3YGxTrY
External Hard drive - amzn.to/3EggmyB
Internal SSD - amzn.to/3KfwCUm

I did this to my OG XB1 last October. Totally worth the upgrade. It’s not a speed demon by any means but it is faster and smoother. The console runs quieter and generates less heat. These SATA SSDs are very affordable nowadays.

I found that it is a good idea to transfer all the games to an external drive before thinkering with internal drives so that if the Xbox resets it doesn’t wipe out all your games. Once you reset the usual internet connection and user you plug in external and your good to go.

After the cloning process is finished , you need to boot into a USB drive on PC with Parted Magic then resize 2 partitions eg: user content & I think system/update which is by default only around 12.6 GB , this partition needs to be between 13.89 to 16.85 . I used a offline cloning dock & then Parted Magic to resize the partitions , installed back into the Xbox One S booted straight into the menu , some might have to still use the OSU1 to complete the install .

@farmerJ-zp9dj 6 месяцев назад
My method will work for Xbox One S & One X and will boot straight into the main menu with the OG boot up screen with all your existing data games, settings etc ( no need for OSU1 update ) , but original Xbox One you have to use the Xbox HDDmaster script version 9.0 if you want to copy all your games, saves, settings etc . I've tried Off line cloning the Xbox One OG drive multiple times with a error on the cloning process due to the Dev/sda partition on the OG HDD . Let us know how you go 🤞

@MO-_._- 10 месяцев назад
Reading the comments and your experience, do you need to do the cloning at all if you already had moved the games to an external in a previous effort to speed up my system? Can I just plug any brand new 2.5 in there like a 1T PNY or similar? Thanks for the vid

I want to ask whether a 3.5 HDD can be used to replace the Xbox One fat internal HDD?If it can't, what is the reason it can't, such as whether the HDD doesn't fit in the internal HDD bay/it's not detected by the machine/the connector doesn't fit?
@DIYNorth
@DIYNorth Месяц назад
I'm not sure if it would fit or not. It should work and the connectors should fits as well, I'm just not sure if the extra size will provide enough clearance to fit in the case or not.

Will the ssd upgrade help resolve the crashing/freezing issue?
@DIYNorth
@DIYNorth Год назад
I would say a strong maybe. If you have a software issue the update will solve the problem most likely. If you have a hardware issue with your drive it will fix it as well. However if you have an issue such as overheating then it might not make a difference. That said you can clean it up during the ssd install.

Are the boot times significantly faster? I bought one of these fat models used recently and I love everything but the boot times. I know it wont make a big difference for games since the original model of XBOX ONE uses sata 2 (3gbps) instead of sata 3 (6gbps) like the ps4 and the other models.

@@cyberpunk88- I just turned it fully off an fully on twice and it loaded into the App page in under 10 seconds both times. I'm not sure if I need to wait a few minutes after turning it off or if its in a sleep state and not fully off. It seemed a bit too fast. Without trying to clone the drive, you would need the offline system update file on a usb. It should then be able to sort out the new drive. You dont need to run the ssd in a computer first. But you likely need a way to save the update file to a usb.

Like just reinstall the old hard drive back into the XBox like it used to be? If so then yes that shouldn't be an issue. Just make sure you know every ones accounts and passwords before doing anything. My younger kids have no idea what their passwords are half the time and rely on their accounts auto filling the password forever. That was the only painful thing, people not knowing their own passwords.

Like what is the minimum size the Xbox can run off? I'm not sure but it can most likely run off a 250gb or even a 125gb, but I wouldn't use anything less than a 500gb.
