im no pro but in the case that the flux got on the chip and you cant tell where the dot is to tell you pin 1,if you look at the back,the earth square on the bottom of the chip has a rounded corner on one edge where pin 1 is as pictured at 10.53.if you look the square is missing the corner,great work @northridgefix

I got the Ksger soldering and hot air station. For both separately will run you about $150. Or they make a combined unit for $200. Great budget unit for the hobbyist/Beginner. I found them cheapest on Bangood. Then I got my flux, low melt solder, copper braid and multimeter from this man right here!

Its better to solder the legs of the hdmi port on both sides of the board. It gets loose in time with only the back soldered. And also when used lead free solder there is less force needed to brake out the port than with leaded solder

I used cheap to begin with. Maybe £100 was spent on cheap soldering iron and hot air gun with a few accessories. Earned that back in the first day and now I own £4000 worth of equipment. So as you say can be done with a cheap station just takes a little longer than you do it. I swear by low melt also but not many people I know who work on boards use it.

@marcianzero_yt
@marcianzero_yt 3 года назад
If you got no experience, take the more easy route. Use low melt to reduce the amount of heat required on the hot air station. More heat is more risk.

@Infiniti25
@Infiniti25 3 года назад
PS4 fat HDMI port can be removed by adding lead solder to the pins and the legs, then placing the board on your bench so the HDMI port is facing the floor. You apply hot air from the back and you circle around. You can also use your soldering iron on the legs in rotation to apply addition heat to the port and board in that area. It should drop to the floor when enough heat is present

When you solder the legs of a port, is it better to bridge the legs if possible to make a more solid stable port or is it best just too put it back to factory?
@Infiniti25
@Infiniti25 3 года назад
I’ve seen both done. I think those holes carry enough solder for the port to be stable, but bridging the legs (not the pins for anyone else reading) is just as good. It sometimes happens that way anyway if you haven’t used low melt solder when wicking those holes due to the extra heat needed because the ground plane is so huge there, you sometimes melt the green solder mask off which was happening in this video.
@mattdunlop6056
@mattdunlop6056 3 года назад
@@Infiniti25 yeah it does seem reasonable on a HDMI port that the 4 legs and large holes allow for enough solder to hold it. I have just seen too many ripped and mangled USB ports/pads that SEEM like they would benefit from a little leg bridging. I have never done that.....but am interested in if it would actually add any strength. Specifically to ports that are.....sketchy to begin with. See that A LOT on camera ports....the factory seems to use the bare minimum just to hold the port in, even though its heavy use like a charging/data port.
@Infiniti25
@Infiniti25 3 года назад
@@mattdunlop6056 as long as you verify that all what you intend to solder together are the port legs with a multimeter, adding bridges will add strength so it can’t be pulled out, it will just pass the point of failure on to maybe the plastic tab holding the pins in the user accessible side of the port. If it is a proprietary hard or impossible to find port I wouldn’t do it, I’d rather be able to reuse the existing port (if at all) than risk no chance of reuse. If it’s a micro USB port you can do it. I think I’d rather add some hot glue to the back side of the port for strength and allow the possibility of reuse on some ports 👍
