The OG Xbox and 360 era were amazing. I'm fortunate that I have both those consoles and the games. It saddens me when I see the Xbox brand now. Ever since that Xbox One reveal, that brand power still hasn't recovered.
Yea so many great games! Why I haven't got series x/s I liked the older games which most can be played on my One Have a Switch but mainly on PS5 now. I do want a gaming PC eventually

So then we argue about Sony vs Xbox rather than what the discussion is ACTUALLY about, which is there aren't nearly enough truly great xbox games coming out. Which is accurate. Compared to every previous xbox gen, this one is incredibly lacking in quality experiences. We are clinically incapable of staying on topic in this, the worst of timelines.
When people say, "Xbox has no games" they're not referring to it in the literal sense. There are obviously games coming out on the system all the time, but the problem is that there aren't enough games that can only be found on that platform. What sets them apart? What makes their hardware worth owning over the competition? If a company can't consistently put out worthwhile exclusives, why would they be the preferable choice? It's not worth going all in on a system that can play what the others can... but nothing else.
It's sad that exclusives are the only thing that make people buy your console. If games released everywhere, companies would have to compete by making better consoles. Instead we get slightly better consoles every 7 years.
If you approach the Xbox (Series S at least) as a budget friendly option then exclusives don’t matter. It’s a console aimed at the casual market - that’s all there is to it.
Yeah, his example of PS5 exclusives were two games both on PS4 and PC and silent hill 2 which is only a timed exclusive to ps5. For me, if you game on a PC, there is far less reason to own a ps5 than an xbox, as alot of you xbox library also available on PC at no additional cost

@@V3ntilator Don't care about Spider-Man 2 at all actually, but PS5 has Stellar Blade and Astro Bot to name a few. Xbox backwards compatibility is great, but it's stagnant. They have some very good games supported, but 6% of the original Xbox library is pathetic. I still have my original Xbox hooked up to my TV for that reason.
Though the money isn't made with selling of consoles, but with games and services and on that front Microsoft is doing well and actually better than Playstation.

They won’t be getting out of hardware, for people like me who will buy a new console when they release them, but the focus is generating income. Get people onto gamepass and the ones that don’t want to sign up, get them to pay $70 on another platform for their game. You’d never count the money they will make between COD and Indy, this holiday. I play on all platforms, have since day dot, but I’ve been primarily a Xbox guy since about 2007. The only thing I play on PS are exclusives. All 3rd party I play on Xbox. And as a Xbox guy, I want them to put Gears, Halo etc on PS. PS gamers have shown they like Xbox games, you’ve only got to look at the PS store charts the last year or so to see that. It’s a win win situation to me. More people play these games, so you have more people to play with, Microsoft would be generating a lot of $ by opening up these titles to a 60 odd million strong audience. In a way, PS gamers would be funding further Microsoft games, so more stuff gets green lit. I honestly believe the only people who are against this are fanboys, who are more concerned about the box next to their tv being No.1, than they are playing games, and isn’t that what we are all here for?
I have said it before, but the gaming industry in general is stagnating. There are no big changes like there used to be, 8 bit to 16 bit, 2d to 3d, 3d to hd, next to all the crazy experimental games and hardware that made the industry to what it is today. This all shows in the current gen consoles, basically everything is last gen, whether it is xbox or playstation, but on newer consoles. Look at the ps5 pro, the changes that are made today are almost not noticeable. I only buy physical unless it's a small game I don't really care about, but with games coming out that don't really offer anything new, there will simply not be enough games comming out in physical form. Sony, Microsoft and Nintendo are desperately trying to be the next new thing, but I think there will be no next new thing in a long time. Most has been already done in the past. These are all reasons why retro gaming is getting more popular, if games in the future dontoffer anything, let's look at the thousands of games we've missed in the past.
Agreed. I have been critical of gaming and other forms of entertainment in general for well over 10 years, citing the previous era of the Ps4 and Xbox one as when it all began to feel off to put it mildly.
When people say 'there are no games on xbox I think they mean exclusives'. If you are only going to have one console, most people would probably go for something other than the xbox.
Looking at the sales of both Hardware and exclusive Games from the Nintendo Switch you have a point, both Xbox and Playstation are way behind and most titles from both companies are also released/going to be released on PC.

I did the same thing earlier this year, and I haven't looked back since. Lots more interesting games I missed from when I was in middle and high school. Plus new releases on PS4 that I wanna play. Too many to choose from nowadays!
Interestingly, I'm eyeing up a Series X for this very reason 😅. Developer mode looks like it has so much potential for emulation (even though I still keep my old consoles plugged into my CRT). And the reverse compatible support is something I've really enjoyed so far on my One X.

I’m glad you made this video. I have a huge physical PS5 collection. I have one physical game for the Series X, and it’s a sports game given to me that is still in the plastic. Something needs to be done about ownership and physical media. The fact that I can play ALL of my games I’ve ever bought whenever I feel like it all the way back to the Atari, just by pulling a piece of physical media off a shelf and putting it in the console, is the way it should be. How is Microsoft allowed to print ‘physical games’ and sell them when the game is not even on the disc?! So tired of this new model, games as a service, etc. I’m over it.
I've been frustrated with that ever since I got my Xbox One what the hell was the point of the discs when I have to download it to my hard drive in order to play.

Not owning the games is one big reason I've pretty much sat out this generation, and I may just be done with new console stuff, unfortunately. I do still "buy" games on Steam but there's something different about buying a game on a Steam sale for $20 vs. either just flushing $20 a month down the toilet on a subscription service or paying full price for a digital game on the Sony or MS stores. I know my Steam games aren't really games I "own" either, but they've never taken a game out of my library; the threat of that is why I never pay full price, though. For consoles, there are just so many physical games that already exist that I just may not need to play any more new ones that come out - I'll just keep collecting and playing the old ones I never got to before. The entire console business model is just broken right now. I just want to buy a game on a piece of media and have it and play it, and that's it. They're all now making it way too complicated and getting way too greedy.
You've echoed exactly how me and alot of gamers feel. After what SONY and Nintendo did during 7th gen (and to a lesser extent Microsoft) of just completely obliterating my digital library for my PS3 and Wii, I'm still a console gamer but believe me...I do most of my 'purchasing' through Steam. I was just playing The Club yesterday on my low-spec PC...4k/120fps goodness. A 2007 game that came out on PS3, still preserved by Gabe. I was playing a couple of days ago Sniper Elite and Lost Planet 2 on my Steam Deck at a locked 60 FPS and a higher resolution than on my PS2/PS3 14-20 years ago. You can't beat that. 'The Big Three' screwed me, and now...I have PTSD. You've forced me to be a PC gamer, and I'm glad you did now.
MJR, what really irks me is Microsoft's refusal to drop the price on the hardware to make the ecosystem more appealing vs. SONY. With the original XBox and the 360 they were incredibly aggressive offering value bundles, discounts, etc... This time around they have no interest and with the cost of living being so high, there is NO justification to have two (overpriced) console gaming ecosystems.

The reason i got a series is because of backwards compatibility with the og and the 360. A while back ago me and a friend got bored and decided to go revisit games from our childhood like Fable 3, black ops 1, Lego indiana jones and after that they went to go play something else and i went and played Oddworld:Munch's Oddessy which isn't available anywhere else. Xbox does have exclusives but most of them are really old.
Munch's Odyssey is also remastered on PS3, PC and Switch, so definitely not exclusive now though it was at the time on the OG Xbox. I have it on Steam myself. You're right about there being a fair number of OG Xbox and 360 exclusives, but only about half of 360 and just a tiny fraction of OG is backwards compatible. To access a lot of the exclusives you need the original consoles anyway. The Series X/S have literally nothing that isn't on PC, and Xbox One has basically only Crimson Dragon, Rare Replay, Halo 5 and Forza Motorsport 5 as well as some Kinect trash.
Xbox’s biggest issue has been communicating how versatile their business is. Normally people believe that their consoles are just Game Pass machines because that the only thing they’ve marketed since its release, and that made the belief that they were prioritizing digital services instead of general purchases and ownership. That’s not the case obviously, it’s just another option to play the games, but I think it’s what impacted their consoles sales even after their restructuring from the XbOne
As I'm getting older (44 and 2 kids) I kinda get the Immortal John Hancock when he says he doesn't have the time to dive into a 100 hour plus game anymore. Nowadays most games seem overly complicated to me, and I tend to go back to basics emulating Atari 2600, NES and such...
My philosophy as a 40 year old guy is, play what you please and don't worry if you can't finish a game or campaign or don't have the time to be competitive anymore, there's more options now than ever to enjoy this beautiful hobby

I always say just focus one at a time and u will chip at ut because once ur at that point in life ur not gonna be able to keep up or play the hype games so i focus on one and play it fully till beat
When it comes to online first person shooters, they should really allow people to modify settings and create their own lobbies. Lake lobbies with auto aim or not. Lobbies with one two three four five shot kills. This can expand upon so many avenues and let the developers know how different people like to play their first person shooters differently. One size fits all doesn't work. Back in Xbox 360 days, we had more options and created our own environments online. Now online matches are very restricted and don't offer customizable experiences.

The original plan was for the Xbox One to be a digital only console. They rolled back on it, but never gave up on the plan. Today, it’s clear to see Xbox only don’t want/buy physical media in the same way PS5 (or Switch) owners do. Game Pass and the Series S killed physical media for Xbox.

8 hours in on Sea of Stars, put it down for a few months, and now it is no longer available on PS PLUS. This has happened to me a few times, and it sucks. I definitely agree with you that physical games are (most of the time), the way to go.
Yup, same here. I’ve learned to finish a game quickly if it is offered at on one of the subscription services that rotates games. They should add a notification to the user if the game is downloaded that it will be leaving soon.

I was playing FF9 on PS plus (and downloaded a special theme that was included), now the theme is completely gone from my PS4 and the game is taken off the service so I can't play it anymore unless I purchase it, (which I did, on the switch lol.)

This is why I've never used game pass. Its just netflix with games, if you unsub to it, you have nothing. Just renting the service. If you buy the disc, you can play whenever you want and not have to worry about it disappearing. Cash grab with nothing to show for the consumer.

Unless there is something I'm missing- aren't all the exclusive Xbox games available on PC anyways now? Sony does the same thing, but keeps their exclusives as such for a year or so before allowing it on PC. I personally picked up a used PS4 Pro and basically have purchased all of the must-play games for cheap...and it's a fantastic system! I have no need for PS5 or Xbox Series right now.
My ps4 pro was extremely noisy (jet engine noise). Was it just mine or is it all of them? I had to keep it on another room to be able to hear the game audio. Pretty ridiculous.
I made sure to get the 3rd version PS4 Pro, which was mint and only $130 without a controller. Noise is not an issue...however the console it feels like it has the cheapest and creakiest external shell I've ever handled on a console (despite not being opened yet). It's way quieter than my overclocked PS3 Slim, which I use one of evilnat's preset fan speed rules.

Most games do. Just certain games don't. Online only games, of course, and maybe a few other exceptions. The fact that current gen consoles need to be connected to an account online at first setup is a potential future problem, though.
@@megamegaONot true at all. Most games are playable from the disc without any updates at all. The updates may improve minor things and some performance issues but most games are still playable right from the disc.
The "Xbox has no games" or "ps5 has no games" rhetoric is specifically referring to first-party exclusive titles. Sony has had many, many more of these in the last few years, but I think it's important to note that PC basically gets everything now. If you own a PC, you can just play almost everything. The Xbox specifically has so exclusive games anymore, they all go on PC. Then, them choosing to put tentpole titles like Indiana Jones on PS5 just means less of a reason to own an Xbox.
That's exactly right. Neither console impressed me that much and I eventually got a gaming PC where I can play everything I want minus Spider-Man 2, which I'm sure will come to PC eventually. I don't mind missing out on one game for a while. That's not worth the large price of a PS5 for me.

I've been a lifelong Xbox fan, like hardcore: played the original console when it was new, I still own one from each generation, I collect achievements (even have a lamp shaped like an achievement 😂), but I think unless something drastic happens in the future, the Series X will be my final main Xbox console. I just don't see any REAL reason to stay with it now, PC is beckoning me more and more - PC gives you the best of BOTH Xbox and PS, at higher quality, can be upgraded, can be played with a controller, and if you get a NUC it can sit in your living room much like a console. Kind of sad in a way, but it feels like they're all bleeding together anyway and exclusivity and branding isn't what it once was. Even got a plugin for "real" achievement animations in Steam.
I've got a NUCXi7 I bought in 2023, my first 'gaming' PC (11800h/3070/64gb Ram). I am so grateful I pulled the trigger on it, last year. I still play on Playstation (got a PS5 Pro on the way), but PC/Steam Deck gaming has now become a major part of my gaming life. I don't know what to tell Microsoft. I guess...just stop the bleeding and tell everyone you're going full-stop Third Party? I just don't know...nor do I care.
Can you imagine if XBOX create some kind of game cartridge... and implement a on-demand service that allowed the user order a full game on collectable cartridge version with a color manual , poster, etc., because you know cartridges are better than DVD/Blu-ray...
You mean offer a service that is good for the player that they can't monetize or get a monthly fee from it? That would bring me back, but they are way to greedy to do that. Game stop should be doing this. It would give them a reason for existing. Work with smaller Dev's and help they get a physical media of their games distributed.
The closest thing we have to that is physical PS5 and switch games that don't have multiplayer elements and are released in a full good state day one. There are actually quite a few that play no problem off the disc with no Internet required if you do the research before you buy them.
He never said that you are not allowed to enjoy it or that there is nothing to play on it and he didn't complain aobut it either, he said that he likes all his systems. The video was about the comparison or overall reason to even own one considering how Microsoft is handling the software/gamepass thing. As a long time Xbox owner, I'll say if you're a fan of physical media, the platform really isn't for you. I use my Nintendo Switch for physical games and will continue to do so with the Switch 2
@ScreamingBlood88 I like getting Steam achievements though, and keeping my average game completion percentage at 32% or higher to stay tied with my best friend. Plus I have hundreds of Steam games so I'm staying. The review system they have with All-time and Recent is nice. Free multiplayer with friends is great too. Also I tend to get some modern games in physical format at yard sales for dirt cheap.
@@ScreamingBlood88 there's a good amount of games that are DRM free on steam, and for those that are not... well there just one DLL away from being it. I wish GOG Galaxy was better, honestly if there was a way to have offline install linked to a social network hub to play games, chat, post, mods, and remote play it'd be amazing. But who'd fund it? who'd pay for it? at the very least open source to continue it through a fork if corporations tried to milk its success. I recently got into messing around with VPS and testing out what scale social networks and game servers cost, and just to keep my local friend group we're already touching $12 a month. Getting Matrix/Element, Pleroma/Mastodon, and pufferpanel. I've learned how resource intensive even just one of these applications can be, let alone updating them can take more ram than your server has. Ultimately I'm realizing those who run services for free get no recognition while companies who exploit under the "free" mark get praised despite most eventually turning evil when the venture capital runs out (Still waiting for the Discord bubble to burst). It'd be cool to get federated version of Valve's social implementation of games, kinda like LaunchBox and Retroachievements. But once again, people will have to self deploy, and one thing that I learned is that the current internet believes infrastructure is free, which makes it basically impossible to run unless it's only for those you care about. On top of that banner ads pay literally pennies, so most of it out of pocket. It is scary to think what can happen if Valve became like other companies, but at the same time it is amazing the service they offer without abusing users. Because ask any smaller federated social network how often their donations goals go unmet for their server costs. The good guys always lose in the end, mainly cause of greed from consumers and corporations alike.
According to Wikipedia there are currently just 23 PS5-only games, that's right: twenty three. Remember Playstation 3? That console got criticized for only having 181 exclusive games vs 200 for Xbox 360. Neither the Xbox series nor the Playstation 5 are worth getting when it comes to exclusive games. You're better of with a PC and a Nintendo Switch at this point.

I think Xbox at the height of the 360 really catered to a "casual hardcore" audience - teenagers that thought the Wii was "for kids" and wanted to play the latest multiplayer FPS. I think that wasn't really a stable basis for a long-term audience. A lot of the kids I played 360 online with in middle school were playing because it was the fad at the time, and they now have jobs and families and don't play video games anymore. The ones that do still play games, like me, moved onto Playstation because I don't have the same competitive spirit I used to, and I appreciate the single-player experiences Sony offers. When Xbox does their showcases and its all FPS or multiplayer games, I think they fail to realize that audience isn't with them anymore. That being said, the world was better when Xbox was competitive, and I do think they have cool ideas with backwards compatibility and PC support. When I first found my Xbox game library on PC ready to play, I was really impressed.
That's true to a certain extent with all gamers. The difference is that Nintendo and Sony are able to bring in new players/appeal to younger generations to replace those that "age out of it"
@@ericp631 I agree, Nintendo has a sort of Disney effect where you’re never really “too old” for it, and Sony transitioned to cinematic experiences for an older audience, while still relying on brand recognition and its position in Japan to get exclusive releases for enthusiasts. Actually, I think Nintendo and Microsoft had the same problem: two of the most popular seventh gen consoles, but their consoles after that were total failures because the mainstream audience didn’t really see the point in upgrading. Nintendo dusted themselves off with the Switch, Microsoft still hasn’t figured it out. Which I do find sad, I love the OG Xbox and the 360 as they’re basically spiritual successors to the Dreamcast.
Why can't Xbox have a bunch of must have exclusives though? What's stopping MS from having talented studios making exclusives for the console? They could even do it in house like Nintendo. Make some great, must play games and then force us to buy an Xbox if we want to play them - simple, that's why I bought a 360 back in the day - to play Lost Odyssey. It just seems like a lack of dedication and willingness to invest in their consoles.

I like how the Xbox can have more than one game running. And you can easily switch between 2 and even 3 games seamlessly. This is a huge win in my opinion and it gets WAY overlooked
A commment about physical games in general and I don't see anyone talking about: update patches. The version I have on disc is the first one, and it usually comes with a lot of bugs. If I want to play a physical copy of a game 10 or 15 years from now, there's no guarantee that the updates will still be online.
My wife bought me the series S a while ago, my first and only Xbox. I was interested in gamepass. I tried it for a short while then stopped. I barely touch it now. That’s what my wife said.
Can we all stop pretending that we're not in the same console generation started with the Xbox One and PS4? Sony and MS have been very, very clear that the future of consoles is a PC model, with iterative product releases targeting different performance levels, but one shared scalable platform. We're going to be stuck in this console generation for 10+ years until they both finally move on from x86 to ARM.
This comment hits it on the head. New console sales aren't as big as they used to be. Most people play Fortnite and other free to play games. Those games can be played on the previous generation of consoles. The typical consumer feels no incentive to upgrade. It's been said many times over that there are more Xbox console gamers than there ever has been before, and it keeps growing. It's just across multiple generations. Even if someone buys a Series X, they are probably not new to the ecosystem. The industry as a whole is stagnant because these platform holders are vying over the same amount of people generation after generation without very much overall growth. They are all looking for that thing that will be able to penetrate the mass market and reach consumers beyond the bubble. Consumers are still looking for a reason to mass adopt this new generation of consoles. The new NCAA College Football helped some, but it probably won't happen until Grand Theft Auto 6 because that will be current gen exclusive. Still, it will mostly be the same people buying an upgrade and not any new consumers to the market. The next console generation is probably going to start in 2026. Xbox is working on a handheld device that might help move the needle. The thing I like about Xbox is its ecosystem. If I buy one of their games or subscribe to Game Pass I can play their games on console, in the cloud on all my devices, on the PC, or on one of the current Windows based portable handheld or Steam. That's a lot of versatility. I get to pick up where I left off anywhere.
The main thing keeping me from buying more physical for my Series X is not knowing how playable it is out of the box. Might look for a website that lists games that 1) are playable out of the box without needing to phone home, 2) Games that need to phone home and require a day one patch, 3) Everything else. It defeats the purpose of collecting if its not going to work someday when they turn a server off.
Looking at Xbox, they really have been focusing more on expansing their game pass service rather than going all in on exclusives for better or worse. Personally, I've used my Xbox more simply because of quick resume. That feature has changed how I play my games and I wish that was something that was on PS5. That doesn't mean I'm not aware of the problems the Xbox has these days.
@@kcadventures1454 That’s mostly for PS5 games unlike Xbox where it lets you jump in with most Xbox games both native and backwards compatible games. Even then, the PS5 feature is rather inconsistent with where it lets you jump into whereas in Xbox it just loads up where you last left off.

Xbox feels kinda dead imho. I've owned them all and love the brand but MS is just dead quiet about it. Sony is pumping PR year after year .. .I think consumers sort of forgot about Xbox which is sad. I get the feeling MS won't do many more models
Is that why whenever someone defends digital, their fallback is always "discs don't even have the game, you have to download it" I never understood what they were talking about. So all these people are Xbox gamers? As a PlayStation player, I only experienced that twice, Hogwarts Legacy and Star Wars Jedi Survivor. Every other game I've played is 100% on the disc.
There are plenty of Switch carts that only contain part of the game data. Switch carts are pretty expensive (much much more so than discs) and the bigger the capacity, the more expensive. So many publishers go the cheap route, buy the cheaper lower capacity carts and require the user to download the rest.

XBOX is just for gamepass. their consumer isn't people who "buy" games, let alone "buy physical". You're just not the consumer that they're targeting. i have parents that love the fact that they don't have to "buy" games and just pay for the monthly subscription and their kids are happy. They get to play those free to play multiplayer games online with friends and have tons of filler games too.
I agree. The Series S especially is an AMAZING budget friendly option, considering how expensive gaming can be these days. Also - a lot of the casual market don’t care much for exclusives, they just want a box that can play games. PlayStation by all means can dominate the premium AAA blockbuster market, but there’s also huge demand for lower budget options. It just gets a bit tiring to keep hearing this “no games” argument- like so what? Also Xbox to this day are superior when it comes to backwards compatibility - Sony are getting there with emulation, but for now Xbox takes the lead.
I need a Forza Horizon that is focused on fun and exploration instead of social nonsense. I want a Fable where I can create my own character. I want a Halo that’s not made by 343. I want a Rare game like Kameo. I’m never going to get this but on the plus side I’m playing GTA IV at the moment on my xbsx. Can’t do that on ps5. 😅
But did you buy a new system to play old games ? Was that the real reason you paid for an Xbox or do you want new things that actually use the hardware you paid for ?
I heard Microsoft have said no more physical media. Affecting people releasing games on crowdfunding who want to release a physical product in small numbers.
The only problem is whether the full game is on the disc or not most doesn't matter when most games even a lot of single-player ones require to connect to a server to launch it so when the dev gets rid of the server in the future the discs will basically be coasters unfortunately

@@OnlineTuba That's not possible as the PS5 and Xbox are very similar in performance power, and PS5 gets much more support by studios because twice as many people own a playstation than an xbox.
It should be illegal under Bait & Switch law to label something "buy" and then in fine print say "actually, this is effectively a rental for a non-determined length of time."
"Physical media" has become an empty word anyway. Basically every game needs GB´s of updates to clear it from all the bugs and gliches before it even becomes playable. That disc means nothing anymore.
Not true at all. Most updates are fixing minor issues. If you are a good consumer, you know which games are playable right from the start and which games have major issues and need those massive updates to fix major things. It's not difficult at all to navigate those waters. I would guess that 90% of games are perfectly fine straight from the disc.

As someone that only plays on Xbox when it comes to current gen, I sum up my recent Xbox experience by saying I was more excited by the announcement of the Lunar collection on Sony’s showcase than by anything shown during yesterday’s third party Xbox showcase.
Love the OG Xbox (still have two of them for Halo LAN parties), but I got out of the Microsoft ecosystem years ago simply because of how toxic its online community had become. Hardly do any online faming nowadays, tbh. PlayStation just caters better to escapist gamers like myself
I'm a 40-year-old filthy casual gamer. I only play on Xbox and Switch. I don't really care for PS exclusives but they do have some bangers. Most 3rd party games play better on Xbox which is why I got it. I'm just dead set against exclusivity even though I do own a Switch. I'm tired of the SEGA v. SNES console wars. The console wars have lasted longer than both WWI and WWII.
I think you nailed it when you mentioned that you wished they were more competitive. Xbox is more interested in just being everywhere rather than competing with PlayStation. I would push back on your point about game ownership in today's day and age though. Because even if you are buying a PS disc, you're still just paying for a license. You don't own it. The disc is just an alternative delivery method for that license. It's not like the old days.
I grew up a Nintendo fanboy, but switched to team Xbox in 2018 and haven't looked back. I love Gamepass, Microsoft Rewards, the controller, the power, the added storage, awesome weekly sales, quick resume, 4 generations of backwards compatibility, and fps boost. Over 1,000 games in my library and 250k gamerscore. No regrets with the Series X being my only console.

@@DerrickFinzer Don't like the new Nintendo. Gimmicks, underpowered hardware, and their first party games are super expensive. Plus they don't have achievements. I get to play the latest Xbox games day 1 on Gamepass, and, thanks to Microsoft Rewards, I have not paid for Gamepass since 2022. Basically, I buy cheap indie titles for $1-$10 every week during their awesome weekly sales, and the rest is free Gamepass games.
I spent 100+ hours on Starfield and I enjoyed it to an extent, especially after the mods were introduced but ngl, the game is kinda mediocre compared to other great RPGs of the generation
I am a PC gamer only. So I love GOG. Will ALWAYS buy any game, AAA, indie, retro, new game on GOG if I can, because then I own it! I will even pay a little bit more for a game on GOG, if Steam has a sale, etc.
I gave up on Xbox a few years ago, their big games don't interest me like the PS5. If I didn't own so many digital games from the Xbox One era, I'd probably sell my Series X. Last time I remember plugging it in was to watch a DVD. lol
I was really hoping when the activision deal went through we'd at least see some of their back catalogue brought forward, Blur, Singularity maybe, but i'm guessing they're not focusing on that sort of thing. Maybe the numbers weren't great, but xbox's backwards compatibility was such a highlight for me and it's a shame they stopped adding to it.
You don't have the full working game on disc whether you buy PS4, PS5, XB-One or XB-Series. With few exceptions - games that receive zero updates. In general, the only way to have a full copy of a game and hold it perpetually, is through piracy. At the very least violation of the DMCA by dumping your console's storage for backup. Of course, unless you can root/JB your console, or the console can be emulated, you won't be able to play such backups.

While this is true, I'd say he's arguing more about the current generation. It's been pretty lackluster for Xbox. Playstation has released quite a few games but I still feel we're way behind on games and the quality of the games themselves.
I think what these soulslikes all neglect is the exploration and level design of Fromsoftware games. That's what makes the Souls games and Elden Ring so special, not just the combat.
