You're right. I would absolutely love to play Gran Turismo 7 with real Ray Tracing. It's such a small feature yet I just love how it looks. But I'm not willing to spend 700 dollars on a console without a disc drive. 100% of my collection is physical, meaning that if I got the PS5 Pro, I would be forced to get a Disc Drive (which is sold out and normally costs the price of two PS5 games where I live in) or to buy the game AGAIN digitally. It's not only that, but I don't want to support this, expensive consoles that take away things from previous models (Disc Drives, and Stands). If people accept this, in the future the damn thing is not going to come with HDMI cables, a power cord or even a controller, just like people accepted that their phones don't include a charger anymore and earbuds anymore, despite being more and more expensive.
@wben7833 Nobody is crying. It just.. doesn't make any sense. Mid gen consoles are weird.. you can already play all the games.. right now.. on a PS5. A 1,200 dollar computer would beat the PS5 pro. When you start to care about Graphical performance, FPS, Machine Learning, Ray Tracing, etc... might as well just get a gaming PC at that point and free yourself of limitations that Sony or Xbox put on you as a gamer.

The PS5 pro has a very low end cpu, albeit, it's well optimized.. but won't take much to beat it. The Pro (pure speculation) has about a 3080 worth of GPU, which is 500 on Amazon.. definitely could beat a Pro with a 1,200 budget.
Saying the current consoles can barely even manage native 30fps at 4K in most games, then any talk of 8K is just plain stupid. 8K @30fps would require at least 4x the performance that you are currently getting from a PS5. However the GPU in the Pro is only giving a 40% uplift max, not a 400% uplift that would be required. As for the ridiculous comments I've seen like "It'll just use PSSR to achieve 8K". Again upscaling is already being used in most games already to achieve 4K from lower resolutions, like 720p, 1080p and 1440p. All PSSR will be doing is substituting current upscaling techniques like DRS, FSR, TSR or Checkerboarding for PSSR. You can't use FSR and PSSR together or the quality of the results would be atrocious (including the latency and tons of skipped frames). PSSR is just a slightly better quality alternative to using FSR, nothing more, nothing less. BTW, even if PSSR could do frame gen (which it can't), it still would fall well short of 8K gaming on such a GPU. You need a GPU like a 4090, using both upscaling and frame gen to get close to 8K gaming. Even then, that'll fall flat on it's face in most titles that are even remotely taxing or demanding.
Racing and Sports games has been the only games on generations to hit the resolution ceiling in consoles. Same here. GT7 and F1 24 can run at 8K. Maybe we can see the next FIFA (FC) to run at 8k, but that would be it.
@@shellshock3243 Native 4k is pretty pointless for the most part even on PC these days. It's much better overall to put the performance into other things and scale up the resolution intelligently, which is why the GPU industry leader is focusing so hard on that.
tbh ray tracing and 4k are both a meme. 1440p high frame-rates is peak gaming. Way more affordable, and enjoyable. £2000 ($2600) can get you a 1440p gaming rig, with a 1440p OLED monitor and no upscaling or frame generation, just glorious native 1440p (you can pick up a 1440p OLED for around £600 on sale). To get a 4k gaming rig with a 4k OLED monitor, you are gonna be paying over double that and get half the frame-rates XD. Not to mention 4k monitors tend to have lower refresh rate than 1440p monitors as well. If sony stopped pushing that their console is 4k (It isn't, it is upscaled), and targeted native 1440p at 60-120 fps high settings instead of the low-medium settings with 4k upscaling at 30 - 60 fps, the games would look and perform sooooo much better. Upscaling just makes everything look trash, especially when you aren't on high settings. The only reason they push 4k is because it is a higher number than 2K, it is just a marketing ploy they probably already know it would be better off in 1440p but they just want to bait more people with 4K. And this is why I am done with consoles, they are just scamming everyone with their 4k buzzword. They even had 8k on the box of the ps5, and sneakily removed it on their most recent box hoping nobody noticed XD. So nobody can even deny they are scamming at this point.

Introduces artifacts in your game Makes game look more blurry than native (Seriously, why fork out an arm and a leg for a 4k screen just to not play in true 4k. Makes zero sense) Some games have very buggy upscaling implentation that can cause crashes, and it can be a nightmare to fix it trying different dlss dll files and such and messing around with dlsstweaks. Rather save myself the headache and play in native 1440p at high fps. Also DLAA is possible in 1440p, good luck running DLAA in 4k XD
@@Lanse1984 Not when it is upscaled, a native picture always looks better than upscaling even if it is lower res. and the difference isn't massive at all, huge overstatement. I have seen both side by side, it is not night and day difference like people claim. What I see a lot of, is people moving from 34" 1440p monitor to 34" 4k monitor and that is why they think it is a night and day difference. What they don't seem to realise, is 34" is dogshit for 1440p because of the PPI (Pixels Per Inch) and looks far better on a 27". If you actually compare the PPI of 4k 34" vs 1440p 27", the difference in ppi is tiny af Too many people are looking at resolution all wrong, you only need high resolution if you want a big screen. For competitive gaming, you do not want a big screen. It is actually a disadvantage. I'm surprised so many people overlook this fact, because it is so obvious. If there is less surface area for your eyes to view, you will see more things. You will see enemies in the corner of your screen easier and react faster. This is why many pro gamers still play in 1080p and play on 22" monitors, they don't want the disadvantage of having more to look at + they want higher fps. If you actually look at steam hardware survey, you will see the most popular card is a 3060 8gb. This is because this is sufficient to play most competitive games like cs 2.
It's so infuriating that PlayStation released the pro without a disc drive. People have scalped the disc drive in my country and it costs upwards of 200€ now. That's insane.
I went to shopto right after pre ordering and I ordered a disc drive at retail price, it said they would send it when they had stock, I had it within a week. Just order one for a shop and they will get stock.
The outrage over this console is ridiculous. There wasn't this level of outrage when NVidia sells a 12gb GPU for $700 but this is a PREMIUM console... It's not the next generation base console... The pro is for those who want the very best and can afford it... The base model isn't getting discontinued for everyone else
I’m trading in my old 4 year old ps5 for new pro, which they are giving me near face value to it. So I will look forward to the next 3-4 years of the games well optimised and in focused for in term this dependable for the future of PC gaming too.
I actually think the price of the ps5 pro is fine, even using historical reference points. The problem is shipping it at that price without a disc drive.
Maybe I'm in the minority, but I really don't see raytraced reflections on cars as a revolutionary upgrade. The various combinations of techniques that have been around for years have been plenty convincing enough. I would rather see them innovate in other ways. Raytraced lighting and shadows are much more impactful to my eye.
You’re absolutely right. The tech is cool but I’m honestly starting to lose interest in some of this stuff. Those reflections do almost nothing to actually improve the visuals when you’re properly racing. I can’t believe it’s seen as this ”major feature”. GT looks so good on the track side already that it mainly needs an upgrade on the enviroments to take the experience into the next level.
If it weren't for Digital Foundry and John I think I would have given the Pro a miss, mainly because of the lack for information coming from Sony. Thank God for John Linneman!
There has also been a heavy push from gaming sites; to discount the value of the PS5 Pro… I mean IGN had their PlayStation pro team: absolutely railing on the price, barely focusing on the positives, and more then half of their PLAYSTATION team openly stating they’d skip this console generation; because it was 200 dollars more then a console released 4 years ago… At the same time: they host a Microsoft xbox fanboy party, with interviews and tech demos after they announced their new Series X system with same internals and a 2TB SSD for 600 dollars; and their giving the head of xbox a standing ovation… The PS5 Pro is the direction the industry is headed, it takes very little programming resources to take advantage of what was added; and because there exists a Pro-xbox agenda that seems to want: out dated hardware at higher prices, pre-rendered no-gameplay demos with no release dates to keep GamePass memberships up, and endless praise about their record profits as they perform massive layoffs… It doesn’t seem logical, so the only other logical reason is their being paid by Microsoft.
Dont remember the last time any hardware maker went super in depth on hardware refreshes. I think they just allowed channels like digital foundry or even to demonstrate there hardware at event preview.

Everyone needs to understand that there are no huge generational leaps like ps1 to ps2 etc anymore. Games have reached near realistic fidelity. We are in an era like PC gaming now where we are chasing minor performance upgrades and better ray tracing etc. it won’t blow your mind but it is definitely better than a base ps5 or xbox
They should focus more on AI (have characters with realistic conversations), realistic physics and destructable objects etc. Most worlds still feel fake, even though the graphics and reflections are great. Unbreakable glass, objects glued to the environment etc
When most of the notably changes require 4x maganification at 50% playback speed, I'm not gonna notice when I'm playing. I feel like that should be the biggest factor for upgrading your hardware is seeing the difference. If you need an FPS counter and multiple zoom in and slow downs to highlight minor improvements the console hardware race has essentially plateaued. I'm still looking at developers for making suggestions like this feel necessary with poor optimization on all platforms and framerates not being a priority during development.
@@TheOldest RT (ray tracing) doesnt need a 4x zoom to show improvement, it speaks for itself.. the FPS thing.. its subjective.. when I lock my monitor to 60 FPS after coming from 240.. I immediately notice a big difference.. the game just feels "sloppy", if that makes any sense.
@@TheOldest Side note, there are other, major advancements coming.. its just still in the works still. With Machine Learning, PT (Path tracing) being chased after now.. its basically the improved form of ray tracing, and does in fact offer another visual leap. The biggest improvement this console generation got was a SSD. I remember when I got my first SSD 10 years ago.. it was a night and day difference.. very exciting stuff at that time.. no, not a visual improvement.. but a very nice change nonetheless.

Even then ur still blind cus even on a tiny phone screen some of these games are night and day, the biggest improvement are also double the fps, which u have to play to feel the lack of delay and to see 60 fps difference u need to watch on a tv.
You only notice if you play at 55 inches or bigger. I do. It's horrible on a 55 inch oled compared to the pc version of ff vii remake at 4k 120fps with 4k textures. Looks like a last gen game compared to that on my 55 inch oled

I think people are missing the point of the PS5 Pro and PSSR: this tech is the only way we get the majority to 4K120+ gaming; without requiring 24GB+ VRAM, or DVD sized Silicon dies… as a bonus: offloading AI enhancement is going to allow AMD unique uses of cluster designs(merging different levels of silicon on the same manufactured die)… The thing people don’t realize is… games are programmed for the majority… your super computer 4090 might be able to run circles around my PS5, but games are designed to be optimized at 12GBs of VRAM, and you’ll find currently: there’s quite a large diminishing return drop off as you move past that 12GB mark in most games…
@@NicholasKoeppel Yep in terms of Multiplatform releases, it’s always been that way or was that way to optimised on dev hardware, then focus on a PC port externally it hasn’t change completely. Only time will tell if the product will sell but moving into 2025, with the release of games that were shown this year running poorly or under optimised with current hardware, let’s not forget about GTA 6 the true console system seller because we know Rockstar won’t port the game till they hit thier sales target and Take 2 is happy lol.
Ill believe 4k/120fps when i see it… so far almost all these games are still only hitting 30 and 60 on the pro... and thats with OLDER titles at that smh. If i see more games hitting 120fps then ill grab one
Your right about the vram. Trusting console..they will be upscaling from low resolutions and yeah dialled down settings to trick you guys into thinking your getting the same 4k 60 as pc gamers. Still locked ecosystem which is just not good overall

@@Macktube Nobody cares about playstation. Us PC gamers are simply curious about how the Ray Tracing performs. The new GPU's are right around the corner now, and AMD does this almost every time. Where they release some decent tech, that isn't in their own GPUs at the moment, on the PS5 first due to contract obligations. By early next year there will be better GPUs from AMD available.. and in 2 years when the next generation of GPUs launch, the PS5 pro will be laughably bad, when compared to modern technology.

It’s an extra $200 for a bigger gpu and 2TB ssd. The 2TB ssd is worth it alone. If you haven’t bought a ps5 yet it doesn’t make sense to buy the $500 one. When you’ll spend another $200+ just for a 2TB ssd.
@@cosmancho2959 no, but it’s a bit odd that Microsoft is selling the 2TB Series X for $100 less than the PS5 Pro. For one, storage isn’t that expensive and Microsoft uses standard (albeit an uncommon size) NVMe drives in their console. Which makes the PS5 Pro a weirdly better value prop.

Xbox is not the Xbox I supported since day 1. They have lost their way and left their fanbase begging for something to be proud of. Bragging about anything and everything and yet, the numbers don't lie. They left the console race and are going to the subscription, which is the future but many of us still want a console.
I’m still honestly surprised at the amount of people that say there’s no difference, absolute nonsense. Sure, criticise the price or lack of disc drive, that’s more than fair to be disappointed about. But unless you’re absolutely fine with still playing in choppy 30fps in 2024 then you cannot sincerely say the Pro offers no difference. For those of us that see 60fps as what should be the standard this is a massive upgrade for most performance modes in games. Performance modes often are blurry or have other visual problems right now, the Pro ruling these out and allowing 60fps at brilliant visual fidelity is amazing.
To die hard Monster hunter fans it is a system seller, when your game runs like shit on base console and the reviews are out, they will move to the pro immediately to pro.

Even optimisation disasters like DD2 have been shown running at 50 plus FPS in CPU intensive areas, something the Pro didn’t receive a major upgrade in. Also, the vast majority of games run at 60 on the base PS5. My criticism is that often the game looks blurry and bad as a result, something the Pro has already shown to improve, massively.

@@shayanali8771 Depends. If 4k DLSS at 60fps is your goal, you have the patience for setting optimization and pulling out a Keyboard/ using a laptop sure you can find something around $700-800. If you have no patience and want a PC like experience for your TV in a simple plug n play manner than the Pro is worth the $700. The base PS5 is fine but not optimal for many.

Jumping from pro machine to pro machine seems to be the way to go in the future. Just skip the base units and wait for the crossgen to be over and get the pro
I had most fun playing the cross gen games with much better loading times and nice framerates instead of struggling with a PS4. Now I have almost nothing new to play. So many great ”next gen” games out there.
Depends on the support for games. I dont buy a pro to play old as walking simulators a little sharper for 1000 bucks. The pro enhanced games already run good and look good on the ps5.
I pre-ordered it mainly to not pay scalpers again if I decided to get it sometime after launch, it happened to me with the original PS5, I didn't pre-order when I could then stock disappeared and I had to pay almost double the price even one year after.

Frame rate is always the most important thing with VR, both high frame rate and consistent frame rate, and the Pro should help with those significantly.
@@yohnwong780 Resident Evil Village has been reported to run 60 fps with reprojection. That's not good or even adequate. I want 90 to 120 fps for a VR game, and I think the Pro could easily deliver that.
All I am seeing is less blurry for around double the price. No actual increase in graphical quality. And all that is, is ditching FSR for something closer to DLSS. The upscaling isn't as bad = looks less blurry. If I was paying almost double for hardware, I would expect better textures, lighting and reflections.

Hello, I only own an Xbox SX but think about getting a ps5 for the 4-5 Sony exclusives. But I would also want to play the old god of war games (1-3, Psp if possible) on the console. This is to this point not possible on the ps5, am I right?
Say what you want about the price of the PS5 Pro, but with the embarrassing state of pc optimization, an equivalent priced PC has no chance of running games as well, not even PCs that are more high end on paper. This has been my experience with a 3070 PC, which should blow the ps5 out of the water, and yet intensive games run smoothly on ps5, while my PC has been a stutter fest for years. I'm done with updating PCs. Playstation and Steam Deck from now on.
So my options are to play in potato mode at 720p with a 3070, or shill 2000 euros to brute force shitty ports with a 4090. PC gaming has become so flexible

But even when I just try ps5 equivalent settings, most of the times games struggle because of stutter or lack of vram. Keeping up with PC hardware is fine for those who have the patience for it, but saying that mid range PCs are a better value for gaming than even the base PS5 is naive and plainly misleading.
@@rajigo6466, i have 10gb 3080 (for $350) and 1440p. Maxed CP77 with RT - 100+ fps. Maxed Enshrouded - 110+ fps. Elden ring - 120+ fps. Forza - 144+ fps, Stalker GAMMA - 100+ fps. These values unattainable even for ps5 pro. I just doubt that 3070 give worse performance than base ps5.
I’m interested in what that enhanced backwards compatibility is that they mentioned. All PS4 games pretty much run perfectly. Will there be an FPS boost style upgrade? That would be ideal.

I see a few games already have "ps5 pro enhanced" on the info screen on the store . So yes they will but prob not all as it is up to devs to put it in anything before the September deadline anything made for the ps5 after September had to have a ps5 pro enhancement.
Here’s the huge thing about the Pro. It will almost certainly be the single best platform to play UE5 games on. And SO MANY upcoming games are UE5. Great image quality, no stuttering. That’s enough for me. I’m in.
Some of my recent favorite games run on UE5 and have issues on ps5. If the pro does indeed help them run better, I will too be upgrading. Just gonna wait and see

It needs hardware upscaling to get excellent image quality (especially with RT) and maintain framerate and its shader compilation solution is dire and causes stuttering on PC (consoles pre-compile). The Pro is the only machine that solves both issues.

On PC, we really don't have much of a leg to stand on because consoles are the target. We often have to wait longer for a patch for a PC port, and sometimes, they never come. Most of us are rocking mid-range hardware or lower rigs that fall within the spec range they list for these games and spend hours playing around in settings. We all don't have RTX 4090/ 7800X3D systems to power through bad ports.
Just be patient. Many developers can’t release exclusives anymore. It’s a matter of time they must put more effort in PC versions. With Sony pushing digital only consoles and increasing the prices, more and more people will go to the PC route to play games.
Most people are not paying $700 for a PS5 Pro. However a massive proportion of PC gamers have hardware superior to the base PS5 at this point. It is four years old and anything better than an RTX3060 typically does better, not least because DLSS walks all over the usual FSR blur fest on console

We've had amazing upscaling/super resolution for years, people know how good it is, yet most are surprised about how good it is on the ps5 pro. Sony is just catching up to this technology. I'm not a console fanboy, haven't owned a ps since the ps2, but a ps5 pro for $700-900 is expected in todays world, and most certainly a good deal if all you want is a plug and play gaming device.

i don’t understand why people are saying it’s a 200 dollar upgrade. it’s a 300 dollar upgrade (250 technically) compared to the digital edition. yes that isn’t a stark difference but we have to realize this is almost a 300 dollar upgrade. they’re not giving us an extra tb, 40% better performance and PSSR for 200. that’s what makes this sell that much tougher.
Explain the iPhone. How about a big Mac? About 10 dollars for a big mac today. Years ago it was 2 for $5. They didn't add anything new to it but it's price has trippled. The new pc graphics cards alone are more than a console
@@bishopsmith3796 see but the issue is that i agree. i’m not saying i don’t see your point but this is an invalid argument because playstation is currently in a semi apple-like position. apple is able to lack behind in tech and other ways but make up for it through an ecosystem and high sales. sony currently has a minimal console “war” currently as it has outsold xbox substantially. they are much less inclined to give you a cheaper box this time. this has given us a 700 (960 canadian) dollar box. is it inflation? also with the big mac it sells for about 7 dollars total including tax here. on the app they want you to use, they give you a great 4 dollar per 1 deal. do you understand why your argument has flaws? also why are we talking about graphic cards? i never said i saw this as a bad console or said that it was a bad ask compared to graphics cards. this is simply a much tougher sale compared to the ps4 pro. yes we are in different times but it doesn’t mean we can’t innovate.

Of course with no competition a company gets lazy and overcharge , but that is America's capitalistic economy. Regardless the vast majority of console gamers chose Playstation 5 over the competition, so whatever you think you can say, doesn't matter. The majority have spoken. They don't lack behind console on the market so explain. What console is more technologically advanced?

You keep saying that those 4x zoomed shots are needed for phones but at what cost? They make the base performance modes look like PS3 titles and we all know some of the games are very good looking even on the base machine/settings. It just doesn’t seem entirely sincere. Yes, Final Fantasy seems better right away but for example TLOU2 does not look all blurry and bad textured like that, even on a PS4 Pro.
I just wished someone could have tested GT7 on PSVR2. I'm really counting on the fact that the graphics get a big boost in terms of resolution and texture quality on Pro.
I think one of the problems is that many people are still on old 1080p monitor or TV. Myself being a console and PC gamer, upgraded to a 1440p monitor and that alone gave me a new gaming experience with the same hardware. And I have come across this multiple times on Reddit of people asking for upgrade tips, especially GPUs when they still run a 1080p monitor. I'm not saying that the PS5 Pro is worth it, but many people don't even play at the highest resolution on their base PS5 even though there is super sampling.
Man it’s a night and day difference going from 1440p monitor to a 4K OLED gaming TV like Lg C1 or C2. I had a high end 4k gaming monitor and even that was night and day difference to the tv. You’re missing out
@@chrisb7161 Yeah I know bro. Was talking about my experience going from 1080p to 1440p monitor. I also use a 4K LG TV that in my living room. My point was that many people don't consider upgrading their monitor before they upgrade their hardware

$1200 here in Australia. Sure we have higher wages but we are increasingly under inflationary pressure and our dollar is becoming more like confetti in its worth every month.

to understand him, you'd have to understand engines and hardware as well as he does, or at least have the base understanding of it. the PS5 Pro is hardly an upgrade at all, it's just that the base PS5 is quite outdated. both rely on upscalers but different ones, you just get the superior upscaler with the Pro on supported games (not all games, obviously). it's so severely limited in terms of what kind of improvements you'll be seeing on a Pro compared to the base PS5, that comparing to DLSS quality in x4 zoom would make the Pro look like an xbox series s. of course, you don't get it. console fanboys are disgusting.
It IS compared to consoles, and at the same time gives you autonomy, not just playing games and watching movies on blu-ray. And also paying for the online somehow lol. Just don't be so sensitive, you're a grown up man.
