I love how you have absolutely no idea where Id comes from when you first play this, one of my favorite characters in all of gaming even though you only see him a handful of times, whenever he appears you know something is about to explode.
Sure. This first Id appears is the best moment in Xenogears. For me, Grahf, Miang, Krelian and Id are the best villains. Well, Krelian is not a true villain but all of them are great!
damn, this game feels like a lifetime ago for me, im 39 now, and i played this game when i was around 15 to 16. i sometimes wish i could go back, these days its getting really hard to remember what life was like back then, now these days it feels like life is one big blur.
Since we are the exact same age, here is a fun fact. When this game was released, gundam wing was shown in cartoon network...or toonami? I can not remember. The thing is...the cockpit of both the gears and the gundams looks alike, at least to me. So...25 years after Xenogears, I can not stop making the connections between both franchises, even its spiritual succesor, Xenosaga. I just hate that because of time constraint, the second part of the story was extremely rushed. Remember Maria's Gear, Seibzen? Well...according to some sketches, it was planned to turn it into an Omnigear. Imagine...the most powerful gear turned into an omni? You can look for the designs on the web. Just wanted to share that sad little story. Have a nice day.
Funny thing is you can actually "win" the fight with Id by spamming wild smile until he can't hit the broad side of a barn. It takes forever, has no rewards, and doesn't alter the outcome of the story in any way, but it's still a thing you can do.
@@archedmash9501 It does, it's a pretty effective move against enemies with high acc, like Grahf and Emerelda when you fight them. Hell, it's the only way to beat Grahf inside of the ship.
This entire scene hits you like a mach truck when you first see it. Id is just so overwhelmingly powerful and during this entire scene, he comes down on everyone like an avalanche. It's such an intense scene. If this game were ever properly remade, this would make for an absolutely jaw droppingly intense cut scene. Just imagine the desert, the Gears and the sand ships all rendered in Unreal Engine 5. It would be glorious.
Yeah! Exactly my thoughts! A proper remake would be a real blast! A banger! Especially if the whole...don't know how to exactly call it...the whole story-telling but not playable part on cd2, wich was not playable due to the contemporaneous production of FFVII...would be playable. Like +15 or so houres of gameplay. And another issue was the (christian type) religious-touch. Of wich the producers thought to be a problem in the u.s. or europe. In terms of funding the game to the point it was meant to be. (english is not my mother tongue, but I think you get the picture) :D
And way back then, for the funk of it, I wasn't able to figure out the frame rate drops. For example at 8:06 when Miang is lifting off. You know it when listening to the music/sound. My next gen pc after that wasn't even able to play the game properly. Haven't tried it with my actual machine though. Had somthing to do with the hardware construction of PCs vs. Consoles. But a better PC ain't able do do what a 30 year old console can do?
@@Kaltkiesel The reason why this is, is because you are _emulating_ it. You are running an OS that is running what is basically a translator trying simulate hardware to run an OS, finally running a game. That's quite a few layers of software to go through, and it takes performance to do all that. The PS1 can do it because it's just one OS running software specifically written for it, and its hardware.
Did you know???? Xenogears was canceled due to final fantasy 7. square said so....-.- yes, ff7 is a great game, but imagine the funds where used like they meant to be...for xenogears! (you name it: cd2 was ...a little bit cut-off. probably, if you don't know...you don't even notice...but now you know....and now you're pissed the way I'm pissed since 1998....)
Have you heard of the state of the arc podcast? They just did a playthrough examining the themes and symbolism of the game. One of the hosts is playing it for the first time and each episode is a minimum 1 hour 30 minutes. I recommend it if you have the time and don't mind listening in
answerd the wrong comments. due to the yt listing. kinda drunk. but the same 2 u. well, mainly the complete answer was ment to u. peace. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-2StwI7grSoY.html
you're right. the textures ARE better than the FFVII textures. for example. like: Squaresoft: well, Xenogears is about 80% ready but let us take all the money left for the Xenogears project and hand it over to FFVII....FFVII is the best JRPG ev0r (the PS1 verson), BUT: what if the money-transfer to complete FFVII from the Xenogears project did never happen? Xenogears could...would...will be the best JRPG that is and ever was. Mechs 4tw!!!!
@FeedEgg & user-Io2jp4js8w: I was about to say some' like: well, ID and Fei never apear at the same time, but that's ridicilous. :P the story and the whole game ist outrageous. The real pain in the ass is, far as I know, the development of Xenogears was stopped in the middle of CD2 due to the development of FF7. way back when square was without enix. Don't get me wrong, the original FF7 is probaly the best JRPG of all times, but WHAT IF Xenogears had all the money and support re-redirected from FF7? The best game ev0r! What is better than big Mechs? Mechas? WANZER? Or, japanese, Suits? (a remake of Front Mission 2 is about to happen? gimme more) Break-the best scene in hollywwod-movies.made-good-shit-worse: (only this scene): ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-oNyKTwR_arw.html ya'll know what I mean. back to the topic: Xenogears is one of the best ps-1 jrpgs. along with FF7, Wild Arms and Breath of Fire 3....AND, well, out of the box, the story of the Vagrant
It was an early PS1 game trying to be full 3d. It's obviously not going to have 4k resolution or anything like that. But, despite all of that, when this game came out, at the time it was absolutely amazing.
