This scene was so cool because this was the moment that we realize that Wilhelm was the one behind absolutely everything. He led everyone to this point
My favorite scene of the entire franchise. I always return to it. Full of concepts, full of symbolisms, full of words that were not coincidence, but entirely connected. It defines many things: A critic, an argue, a dissapointment, a revelation, a truth, a lesson, a decision, and many etcs. I love this videogame, its characters. Wilhelm is a fascinating villain. I never figure what he really represents.
"It wasn't meaningless as long as you, yourself, believe it wasn't meaningless." I've known for a long time I'm very much Margulis in the basic sense of "needing faith." This scene says so much to me even more now that I'm 34 than it did when I was a young adult in 2006.
I love this scene but it’s also incredibly funny in concept to me. “Your religion is fake but dw. The real meaning of your religion was the belief you gained along the way. Earth still ain’t shit tho. K thanks help me with my plan now 👍”
""Ormus"" is reference to "Ahura Mazda""" (ah--URAMAZ--da,) the god of the ancient Persian religion, Zoroastrianism, started by Zaroaster, also known as Zarathrustra. Ormus in the game, is syncretic of Zoroastrianism and Chrstianity, much like the 3rd century Gnostic religion, Manichaeism, hence the reference to Gnosis in the game.
Jason.1284+ I have never understood the naming process for these things. I mean, how can someone come up with a name so cool, yet still so deeply important? It is beyond human ability! Ha, just kidding
Almost correct. Manichaeism is not exactly Gnosticism, it had been around before it. However, there was a certain "cooperation" of the two in the sense that both were against Christianity, and had a different approach to Jesus Christ and interpreting his tellings. Zoroastrianism, on the other hand, was (according to Friedrich Nietzsche, on whose works and concepts Xenosaga´s subtitles are based) the first one to differentiate between good and evil, laying the foundation of every religion it preceeded, especially the Jewish religion and, as a consequence, Christianity (cf. the tree in Eden in the Book of Genesis.)
In this game, it is Grimoire who causes earth to vanish when using the ZOHAR, in blade, yes its Clause. Gears also mentions earth vanished but doesn’t give the reason. But in a way fate repeats itself. (Except X where earth is destroyed by aliens but also then theres a theory if said aliens are another side of humans)
