Xerjoff 40 Knots - real world fragrance review

In this video, I review Xerjoff 40 Knots, an exquisite fragrance inspired by the luxurious lifestyle of yacht sailing. 40 Knots is meant to capture the essence of the sea with its mesmerizing blend clean musks and woody undertones. This fragrance opens with a burst of freshness, leading into a heart of florals, and finishes with a rich base of cedarwood and musk. I'll share my thoughts on its longevity, sillage, and how it develops on the skin, making it a must-watch for anyone interested in adding a touch of maritime elegance to their collection.

2 minutes in and I have to say I absolutely agree with you, Daniel, especially when so many people, including perfume shop consultants presented this to me as a marine scent. To me, it's a Yacht Club scent if I take into account the fact most yacht owners would be rather old and that's when baby powder comes in place, when it's used prevent them lads from... irritations.

💯 Agree with your take on 40 Knots I ordered a sample of this looking for a marine aquatic, and what I smelled was Baby powder, with a Champagne opening over a base of heavy Amber. I don't find anything really Aquatic, or Marine in this fragrance and don't even think it's that mass appealing I don't see guys 25 or under wanting to wear this. If you're looking for niche Aquatic go for Acqua Viva profumum Roma, Sel Marin, BDK Citrus Riviera, or Zoologist Squid.

The problem i see with all the Xerjoff is that there is minimal to no evolution at all (which is what makes them boring after a while) and they all sit on a sweet drydown which is what makes them last fairly long. I was very enthusiast about Torino 21 (i still think it's the best of the brand) but even though it's a very fresh scent, it becomes "heavy" during the day, dull perhaps. This heavyness also reflects in the medium/minimal projection in many, like Naxos (very minimal) or Alexandria and Opera. I don't think i'm going to buy more of them, unless they come out with a very interesting cologne, which is very unlikely i think. Xerjoff looks more like a royal mantle, it seems luxurious but it's actually heavy and dusty.

Excellent review. Big fan of sampling fragrances completely blind too, without knowing what it is or how its packaged. I'm a bit up in the air about the brand myself. If they put the same fragrances in stock bottles and generic cardboard boxes, I'd be willing to consider them at an 80% discount. 😄 Mind, I have a few cheapies from middle eastern brands - that could also technically be considered niche - that blow designer presentations out of the water too. Names and clout mean very little to me, hence the blind sampling. Always love getting your take Dan. Your channel has quickly become one of my current favourites. 💙

great video as always - sampled 40 knots lately.. i like it but like many xerjoffs it is a bit too thick and flat and lacks any vibrant energy. i like when fragrances cause a firework of emotions... with most xerjoffs this is not the case for me sadly. even brands like pdm and initio cause emotions in me - maybe its the different perfumers they use. xerjoff does not really work w known perfumers, like other houses do.

@@SeldomlyOften No, I wouldn't do that. To put it more clearly: I love beautiful bottles with great quality, but I would save money on the outer packaging and box. I would much rather have a nicer glass bottle than expensive cardboard and an expensive box that doesn't give me an olfactory or usable experience afterwards. I like the MFK bottles, for example. Simple, beautiful design without the cheap-looking embellishments. You have the feeling of holding a high-quality fragrance in your hand. At first glance, Xerjoff looks great, but in detail the quality is mediocre. The labels are often glued askew and the lids are sometimes tighter and sometimes looser on each bottle. But I would love to use refills if I had the corresponding travel bottles from Kilian, for example. But the overall price-performance ratio is even worse because the travel bottles are too expensive.
