xfce is a great de. imo the best desktop for people who don't care about fancy features. Is just so solid

I don't like XFCE because it's hard to resize thin window borders with a mouse You could say I don't like XFWM

@@alexisfinaris2051 That depends a lot on the XFWM theme you use. Personally I'm used to toggle resize mode with a keyboard combination (then I can move the mouse to resize) as I consider it way more comfortable. Also, you can use XFCE with any other WM. In the past I used it with IceWM and worked fine. 👌

Xfce: A must for all Celeron and Pentium processors !

It's awesome if you don't need to use scaling on it. 1080p display is great to use xfce with, but I have a 4k 27" display where everything is just too small without scaling :(

it can. It's just a pretty mess to figure out (or I'm just bad at it).

It is a goddamn mess. GtkInspector can help, but years ago, the Gnome devs decided that in GTK 3.20, CSS nodes should have no relationship with the underlying widgets, which broke just about every theme and made it more difficult. I am able to theme some (not all) of the panel items, but the actual background of the panel wants to remain a solid color somehow.

LXQT is a lot smaller than XFCE though which is its main advantage for people who want or need that. Some people want a DE as small and as light as possible.

@@niccoloveslinux I would love for you to be right, but I've never seen that ability in the 3 years I've been using KDE. If you can point me in the right direction, I'd certainly appreciate it.

@@Videobe Won't that conflict with KDE's built-in hotkey functionality? I thought sxhkd was only meant to be used with window managers.

​@@code8986 It shouldn't as long as you don't have the same keys configured in both. It should operate independently of whatever desktop environment you are using. I currently use xbindkeys in parallel with the XFCE built in shortcuts without issue. I've been intending to try out sxhkd once I can find the time for it. But I've just discovered that there is now also swhkd as an alternative to sxhkd which also works on Wayland, so that might be the more future proof option. It uses the same config file as sxhkd, so should be easy to switch between them in any case.
