I agree. The Sihuadon/Radiwow R-108 at least has a VM button and the memories can be browsed through without using the clunky page memory system. AFAIK the digital display Tecsun radios (those without SSB) have the capability to configure the backlighting mode to On/Off/Auto. The D-808 can have its backlight turned on permanently or automatic off, but not permanently off.

No, you nor I can fix this. it's an inherent issue of DSP based radios, it's how they operate, has something to do with the DSP chipset used in these radios. the manufacturers are the only ones that can do anything to fix it, and that would require them making a new radio without said issue.

I believe that the screen is only amber on the Sihuadon brand D-808? Please advise.

@@johnbeckham1483 Yes, only on the Sihuadon version. But otherwise, the radios are the same.

@@johnbeckham1483 The official XHDATA store on the Lazada e-commerce platform informed me that all new D-808 units (whether branded as Sihuadon or XHDATA) no longer come with the white LED illumination, but amber. The reason given was they received feedback from customers that the white LED was too bright for viewing the display in the dark, so from now on the lighting is now a "pleasant warm yellow". It's a shame because I prefer the cool looking bluish white LED, which makes the D-808 stand out from all the amber backlit Tecsun radios. 😞

Sihuadon is black and has a red on/off switch, XHData is grey and has an orange on/off switch. Both are the exact same radios.

@@L1RW It turned out that the black Sihuadon D-808 was a limited run branding. My online seller has informed me that XHDATA is reverting to its grey colored units. I did a check with the XHDATA store and found that it ran out of the Sihuadon version. I got no further information as to why the D-808 was sold as both Sihuadon and XHDATA brands but I've been told that the manufacturer has no plans to replenish the black Sihuadon stocks once they have been depleted. And yes, the Sihuadon version comes with the red power button as you said.

The Sihuadon may be different in terms of firmware, as some people saw differences in terms of noise levels on the bands.

Yes I too have the broken antenna foot after 2 years, using it with the supplied wire now, the radio itself is very good
