As already mentioned quite sure they didn’t completely removed the front end filtering. If you take a close look you can see now diode switched bandpass filters consisting SMD inductors and capacitors instead of the filter coils in the old design. This is a common method for front end filtering.

These filters are actually tuned via the Si chip using varicap diodes . By having a track tuned front end, the RF section can be programmed to use higher gain while reducing cross modulation and over loading, but is still mediocre at under 50 dB. The normal superhet designs use wideband low pass filters , and rely on a first balanced mixer to achieve a slightly better result.

I am glad that I have one of the older Sihuadon D-808s as it has hard plastic feet & a micro USB socket!

The new new model it's better than the first model.

I have the first generation Sihuadon D-808 and the second generation XHDATA D-808 (amber backlight, rubber feet, micro USB port). They both seem identical with respects to sensitivity and audio quality but for some inexplicable reason my Sihuadon D-808 does not show the RDS icon on standby mode. My newer XHDATA D-808 does. I didn't realize that the XHDATA unit which I bought back in January this year had the rubber feet until I watched Gilles' earlier video on the updated D-808. I think the rubber feet were added on to earlier units before the manufacturer switched to the USB-C charging port. It made sense for the factory to also replace the micro USB port to USB-C as they were already making changes to the new circuit board without the front-end filters. 📻😐

I was thinking about that radio but now confirm I'll be getting the Tecsun 680.🍻🤠

Hej Gill thanks for the video and it was very interesting to take a peak inside of the new Sihuadon D-808 ond the old Sihuadon D-808 I'm a bit tempted to take apart my Sihuadon D-808 and see what it looks like on the inside. But I'm sure I have the old Sihuadon D-808 model mine has no rubber buttons rubber feet and usb c socket but, I'm not one hundred percent sure before I open up my Sihuadon D-808 and look inside so i will do that take care Gill.

In the new version, the amplifier was changed now it is lm4863s. About the input filters, they did not remove them, they are, but now they are smd. There was no difference in reception and sensitivity with the old version

Is there a third version? I am a bit confused. I have the orange screen model. Is this just a video series of the two models, or is there a third new one I am unaware of. Thanks!!

Hi Gilles, I own a Shihuadon with micro USB and rubber feet.Bought it November 2022.I opened it today just to check what kind of version it is and all the filters are at their position. Cheers 😀

hii, i am extremely confused right now, i am new to radio listening and currently i have both the options available whether to buy xhdata d808 or sihuadon d 808 ! just give me one personal choice so that i can buy one

I find that mine,the new one, is a very good radio on all bands exept Lw witch is deaf. Cant compare with the old one because I dont have it.

I found the audio on the new model to be poor compared to the old model, the entire audio section of the PCB has also been changed.

The new one has a bad FM breakthrough in both SW and Air Band. The charging system is bad comparing with the older, as well as the load speaker has less power. Unfortunately, this new upgrade converted what was a good radio into a pice of junk ... it is BAD,BAD,BAD ... They are cheating by replacing the main board without mention
