Probably going to wait for the global version, but I think it will definitely be worth the upgrade from the 7 (which your other video convinced me to buy lol)
I still see no reason to upgrade from my mi band 4. The battery life seems to be a downgrade. This one used to last me almost a month. Now its around 25 days.

I waited for 7 NFC global, now will wait for 8 NFC Global, hopefully getting Zepp Life support aslo, since it is a much better app then the Mi Fit app. However thank you for the great video!
Yes Ben, the Zepp Life app is what I used with my Band 7. Will be interesting to see what the global version being in app compatibility and tracking features in other apps.

I still cannot believe the value they provide! year after year it gets new features and they keep it well in check with inflation. As for the Global release, unsure, rumors are could be announced mid this month, whenever it is it'll be worth the wait for watch face language compatibility 👍
Thank you so much for the video. I am very much looking forward to getting it in my country. How is the battery consumption on your phone's app? Also, 7.7 is basically changing 43 mins/60 mins, into decimals. 43/60 = .71 So 7.71 hours.
My phone says the Mi Fitness app accounts for 1% of my battery usage. Yeah haha I understand the conversion, it's just so strange to show a decimal result. I've never said to someone "I got 7.7 hours sleep last night" haha. Thanks for watching man 🤙

massive fan of the mi band since 3, had 4, 6, skipped 7 because it's not a huge leap from 6, this mi band 8 is a good reason to finally upgrade but ehhhhh my mi band 6 is still good
I used to use Mi =Band 6 with the Zepp Life app and it was great. I've upgraded to MiBand 8 NFC (I currectly live in China so I've got the CN version) and it only works with the Mi Fitness app. Which is not as good as Zepp. My main pain after a few days of using the new band is taht it's not possible to rearrange the workouts order on the band. In Zepp app there was an option to shuffle the workouts for an easier access to the ones we need most often. Here in Mi Fitness I can't find it, so I'm stuck with things like hiking as a "basic" workout... If you know how to adjust that, please let me know xD
I noticed my workout modes on the Mi Band 8 organised based on my "most used", the order dynamically adjusted whenever I went into the list and picked out something from the deeper menu's. I couldn't find a way to manually override this like in the Zepp Life app which you're familiar with, which is frustrating.
@@camshand thanks! Yes, some time after I'd written that comment, I noticed that the most recent workouts change. Which is helpful. But still more customization would be cool :)
Until the global is released I can't say with certain but based on the previous years the only difference is the languages available on the band, the watch faces, and some apps e.g. Payment services. You also have to set your Mi Fitness app region to China on your phone to use the CN version of the Band 8. There is a China NFC variant, unsure if there will be a Global NFC and if so what features will be available. I'm happy with the watchface I found so will probably keep the CN version for this generation.
Hey mate I had to go into the Mi Fitness app, and under the settings for the band there's a weather option. There you can set the town which you wish to receive weather readings 👌
Sad 😢 The new band 8 won't be compatible with any previous strap designs. Band 7 design is wider, now band 8 has different band design. I wasn't having issues with Bands 5, 6 as I upgrade as they are using same straps.. I skipped 7 for this reason, now might as well skip 8 altogether... Band 6 still holding up to this day since day 1 I got it and will be holding on to it even longer.
Yeah new straps only. I was able to force my mi band 7 into straps from my 5 and 6. I really like how the new design looks on my wrist, am interested though in how the metallic look outer will wear and tear with time.
Oh the cable am I right?!! Such a strange design change, it's been perfect from the band 5, 6 & 7 then they go and change it to right angle. Oh well, thankfully everything else so far is a positive 👌
This is the CN version, it has english language through the menus. It's just majority of the watch faces have Chinese characters. Unsure if there'll be more english specific watchfaces added once the global version launches
No matter which xiaomi band you take it's always a cheap feel you get on the other hand Huawei bands are much more expensive looking with similar prices
I've never had an issue personally with the light weight plastic feel of the Mi Bands simply because I forget I'm wearing them, they're so light. To be fair though I've never tried a Huawei band before, so maybe I should compare the two.

Is it worth to buy china set? Or better buy the global with nfc? I might no often use nfc payment. For other features, is there any differences between non nfc china set, and nfc global set?

Whoa really? Mine has been syncing flawlessly. Have you given the Mi Fitness app background privileges to keep running once closed? Without that android will block it from checking with the band to sync.
Main change would be the auto brightness, but with night time mode set on the Band 7 that gives you a pretty good way to manage brightness. Everything else is "nice to haves", so yeah I'd be happy to keep the Band 7 for another year if so
Oh strange! Mine has always stayed English on the band. I have had a notification on my phone in Chinese but the language in menus and the app has always stayed English
Hey Timon, can you elaborate? the vibration feels much like the Band 7. You can set custom vibration patterns for different notification types (you tap out your own rhythm). But the feeling of the haptics seems like a general vibration.
These are the standouts for me: Faster Refresh Rate screen Brighter Screen Aesthetic with new Strap mount style But if I had a 7... I'd keep using that 😄🤙
Rumors I've read guess this month for an announcement, usually it's a few months after the china release. Can't say for certain but usually the only difference is software features, like payment apps, watch faces etc. the hardware features have been the same for the past couple generations between the two.
so i got the 8 i have been buying since the 3, now with the switch to xiaomi app from zepp life it has spelled the death sentence on these bands for me. that app sucks and the weather does not work if you have a cn version outiside of china :(
The app is for sure now where near as good at the Zepp Life. My weather works in Australia, however sometimes it stops syncing until I go manually open the Mi Fitness app. There's been a few firmware updates ironing out different bugs, can't remember if I've seen weather on the list yet. They did add the "Vitality" widget I complained about in this video. Will be good when/if the global launches and we get Zepp life app support again.
@@camshand let's hope it happens. I was reading apparently Xiaomi is no longer partnering with the folks who did the previous bands that's why there is no support on zepp.

Hey Mate! Global version still isn't out from what I've seen so the links in the description to China sellers are all that's available at the moment. When it's out though you'd be checking eBay, Amazon, Catch of the Day, these places tend to have resellers. But it's usually cheapest to buy direct form China given the origin of the manufacturer. Good news they added Vitality (new PAI) as a widget shortcut in an update 😀 however, I've noticed the points I get for exercise are considerably less than my band 7, for 5 hours of hiking I got like 20 points 😅 like what
Doesn't feel any heavier on wrist, it did keep slipping up my wrist with the stock silicon band out the box, but once it found shape to my arm it felt much like the Band 7 on my wrist.
the shoe version of the band looks like an interesting usecase. Personally I already have a smartwatch (galaxy watch 5), but I'm contemplating wether I should get Mi Band 8 to track walking & running more accurately + get more feedback
Interesting thought! I never considered having it as a supplement to an existing smartwatch. Given I prefer to have heartrate based metrics from exercise I'll keep it on my wrist, but for runners I can see the impact force and time between striking to be valuable. Hopefully they add a method to record which foot the tracker was on 👌
Have to set your weather region in the Mi Fitness app. It's odd it won't look up based in your GPS, but after manually telling it where you want it'll sync
Hi there, could you pls check this for me: in Pool Swimming can I set a vibration alert for number of laps (or distance)? For instance: set vibration alert at each 200m done, so that I don't need to stop swimming and look at the screen to check distance. Many thanks.
Looking at the swimming exercise you can set a goal based on lengths of pool, and then you can set pool length. So you could have a vibration alert after 4 lengths of a 50m pool for 200m, HOWEVER, I do not believe this will alert EVERY 200m, just after the initial goal is reached. I don't swim so can't test any further for you, but I'd say there's only an initial alert.
On Android you can select what apps you want to pass notifications through, Facebook messenger is on the list. Don't know for iPhone. Thanks for watching Dwayne 😄🤙
