Xiaomi Roborock S5 (or S50) Robot Vacuum Review: Unboxing, Features and Cleaning Test

I ordered one a week ago, cant wait to get it!!! Its an awesome robot.

We’ve had this for nearly 2 years🌼 and it still works very well with our combination first floor (medium carpet, hard wood floor and tiles). Definitely works much much better than iRobot. Saving up to get another for bedrooms floor.

This is an awesome vacuum robot. Absolutely love it. It's got a very good AI and rarely get stuck on my rugs or stuff on the good. Runs a good long while and the floor feels dust free after it has done its job. Compared to my retired Roomba 560, the Roomba is more like a novelty as compared to the S50 which is an actual cleaning assistant. The mopping function on the S50 is decent. It's not its strong suite but it gets the job done. It will still mop over a carpet but if you fill it with just plain water, there is no issue as the amount of water dispensed is minimal.

I saw in a different video that you can box an area on the app and clean it multiple times. If you would have chosen to clean the corners about 4 to 5 times it may have been cleaned. If you attached the mop it would have gotten the corners better as well.

What about mopping function for the next video? I imagine you will show us how it does for mopping.

Is there any possibility to setup an forbiden area in the map?

Looks like a CON would be the charging station. The original had some weight to it so the unit can report back to base w/o the base possibly moving around. Having a charging base that's too light could mean too many touches of the power cord would knock the charging unit out of position. Also, unlike the original unit's charging station, this one has no back compartment to tuck the excess wires away. Another CON seems to be the mopping capability. My guess is this unit is only good for spreading water around the floor. When I mop my hardwoods, I have to apply a little pressure to dirtier spots. This unit isn't applying any pressure so what's the use. I'll stick with the original.

does anyone know how tall the robot is without the sensor on the top? I just want to know if it will get stuck under my furniture, but I can only find the whole height online.

Can you add more than one zone to clean at the same time (e.g. draw more than just 1 rectangle before starting the vacuum)?

The only thing I ask myself, how does the robot clean when the floor is not as smooth and easy as your floor...the structure of my tiles on the floor are slightly more rough...(however, I ordered a robot(sec.gener. incl mob function)...anyhow, because I have 200m2 to clean, am really interested to see what will be happening....I will come back to tell you my experiences when I received the robot and tried it out....thank you for your demos....

In the second generation vacuum pump I can only pump? Or does it do the 2 actions and can not select only one operation?

Hello Garrick! :) Thank you so much for these videos, it was yours that convinced me to buy the original Xiaomi vacuum cleaner, I called him Jeffrey the Butler (with a female voice though, there was no male English voice! Argh!). I was wondering something though. Do you think we could we use the "washable filters" from the RoboRock on the 1st Generation of Xiaomi vacuum cleaners? Are they the same size? Would it fit? Also, what does the Xiaomi RoboRock have over the 1st Generation? I am wondering whether I should upgrade and if it is worth to buy the second generation. I am also very curious about how RoboRock does on carpets. Especially fluffy carpets. My Jeffrey has some trouble to get on our carpet (about 1,5cm). But once he's on it, he's doing a great job. I know RoboRock goes over 2cm like butter, I am very curious about the carpet part, if it does make a whole big difference or not. Also concerning the mopping part, would it be best to invest in a mopping robot instead of a combined machine? What do you think about the performances, maybe a mopping machine might be more powerful? I can't wait for your follow up videos, you're really great at what you do! Keep up the good work! Carpet test would be great. The next time could you weigh the dustbin while it is empty and then weigh it again without opening it when it is full?

Hi. Can you do a test on different carpet types especially shag carpets? I didn't see any carpet tests. Also what happens when you have mopping option on and it finds a carpet?

So... If the Robot has mapped out the entire floor of your house (from a full clean a few days ago), can you then (when it's docked) tell it to go to say the kitchen (a couple of rooms away) and clean just there? ie: It will remember the floor layout from previous cleans to navigate there? Or would you have to carry it to the kitchen, tell it to clean so it can map the room (kitchen), and THEN you tell it not to go beyond that room?

What is the full name of the app and version that you’re using? Also what is the full name of the locale/server are you using? And and what country do you live in?

in the gearbest site the told me that this vacuum isn't in English but i can see that your manual and app is in English from where did you bought it if i can ask?

this is a neat gadget but I can clean up that mess in 2 mins. I agree with other viewer below these things are scary spying on people in their houses .

I bought the Roborock sencond generation Xiaomi and have downloaded the MI Home app. After many tries, I am unable to link my Roborock to the robot. I am connected to mainland China. The very brief booklet doesn't go into problems. Please help me!

The new charging dock is a big downgrade from the first generation Xiaomi robot. On the first generation you could hide the cord in the dock for a very clean look... Now you plug it into the side of the dock? Looks terrible

If it needs a wet mop it just means it doesnt vacuum all the dust. And i dont like it only has 1 brush.

Still, no remote comes with this machine and so I cannot buy it! They make the stupid and unethical assumption that everyone owns a smart phone - how stupid can you get? The day I retired, on the way home I threw my iPhone into the river and swore I would never own another phone - I have kept my word - smile with contentment. So I must continue researching because the dumb asses won't put a remote in the box.
