The Xiaomi Smart TV 4S replaces our current Mi Smart TV. Xiaomi really nailed the display. That’s what matters to us the most, as we mainly use it for Netflix, RU-vid and streaming services. The sound is on par, and the Mi TV 4S is aseptically pleasing too. Int. price: bit.ly/Mi-TV-4S
After the unboxing of the Xiaomi Smart TV 4s, setting it up for the first time.. I’ve noticed something in the manual. Normally I never read those things, but since I had to wait for the update.. That’s.. when I found this: "This TV displays advertising when the TV is turned on and off."
So right now, as you’ve seen, there are no ads. luckily. But it looks like that Xiaomi already covered themselves for in the near future to possibly add ads when turning on or off the television.

That's a very cool video, Martijn! And the TV looks to be pretty nice! Guess Xiaomi won't release any of the Redmi TVs for Europe, will they? Very important point that you've shown the part related to the ads. This is something Google were preparing for a long time, and last week a lot of Android TV users have complained about such ads starting to appear (there will be more of them visible in the launcher). Looks like only NVIDIA Shield TV users are immune to that, but it's hard to predict whether this will stay for longer. Was planning to buy the Oneplus TV if they release it for Europe, but considering that Android TV twist - I'll go again for a non-smart TV :D

Hoi martijn, hoe heb jij je mi tv met de mi soundbar aangesloten? Ik heb dezelfde opstelling en als ik soundbar middels een optische kabel aansluit kan ik de volume niet aanpassen met de afstandsbediening. Bluetooth is geen optie omdat er veel vertraging is.

Thanks for the review. You did mention the brightness seems okay even on a sunny day. But some reddit reviews say it's lacking brightness. How many windows do you have in the room where your TV is placed? I am thinking of getting this one (in 2021) because I believe for the price it's still a good deal. It will also be my first 4K TV coming from an older FHD Sony TV so my standards aren't that high. Not planning to game on it too because I don't play on console. Thanks!

I had a Xiaomi TV when I lived in China; I got it in January 2016. It was a beautiful set, it also came with a soundbar and subwoofer. However, when it was turned on it ran a 30-second ad and when it was turned off it ran a 20-second ad. It didn’t show any ads at first; that started to happen around mid-2016. Disconnecting the TV from the network made no difference.

ya my only concern is the input lag... ive checked on reddit they said after a system update its around 25-32ms in game mode... but cant be 100% sure...

I have the exact same model, no ads at all - did you managed to have it working with google home? GH can turn it off but not on, lastly - google photos photowall is still not available, had to attach a chromecast on the back to solve this!

Strange, I have the same model TV but in picture mode on my TV there are 7 options and no HDR, instead mine has game mode, doe's this mean HDR is not supported?

@@MartijnWester probably that it's an Android TV. It gets system and security updates and the UI looks pretty good compared to my Mom's LG TV which is pretty sluggish and I don't really like the LG TV Interface

There's no dedicated button, that correct. Because I don't have a TV subscription, I am not 100% sure, but I think the round button acts as channel up and down..

They are talking about the "Google Ads" like third party apps. For example when you watch a video on youtube, an ad shows up to you and xiaomi has no control over it. That is what they are talking about actually.

Nice review! I just bought the TCL 43EP640 and I kinda regreted that I didn't got the Xiaomi TV, it looks so much better! And the boot times on the TCL are so slow.. It has also a couple of bloatware apps that reinstall after I removed them and the BT audio lags behind. What's your experience with bloatware and BT audio on the Xiaomi TV? And what soundbar do you have? It looks nice too!

The TCL doesn't look bad either! There's basically no bloatware (luckily) and the BT is pretty on point! The soundbar is also from Xiaomi :)

Looking to get both the same TV & Soundbar, any chance you can could tell me what input did you use to connect it to your TV and if you are able to control the volume with TV remote? From what I read the Mi Soundbar doesn't come with a remove and doesn't allow volume control from TV's remote over S/PDIF, only aux and bluetooth. Would very much appreciate a reply, thank you! I bought the 43" 4S in July for the bedroom, it's great, the only downside is that the UI can be a bit laggy at times, especially just after booting up. Not sure if the chip is different on the 55". Plays everything you throw at it though, so it's a great bedroom TV for streaming.

Martijn, ik heb de 43 inch gehaald. Toestel functioneert goed alleen het geluid van de 43 inch is eigenlijk niet om naar huis te schrijven. Het is erg flak! Zelfs in spraak mis je bass en vol geluid. Afijn, nu kijk ik dus naar een Xiaomi soundbar. Onder jouw tv hangt er 1. Hoe is deze bar? En hoe bedien je het qua volume? Er zit geen remote bij en HDMI ARC heeft hij ook niet? Via toslink aansluiten en dan zelf steeds naar de bar om hem harder/zachter te zetten lijkt mij ook niks?

Patchwall is very good and it's updating year on year the more u use it the more intelligent it becomes and suggests shows from Ur subscription and universal search is best.

Changing DNS servers might help combat the ads. I personally will lookinto making my own PiHole (Raspberry Pi based) but simply pointing your TV Wifi or Ethernet dns settings to one of those DNS adblock servers might do wonders. ive heared you might lose some TV functions like rewind and pause, but like me, as a youtube and netflix watchers, I dont really care

I bought 1 too from the Lidl Supermarket for 399 excluding 15 euro shipmentcosts. I did not change colours and I am very statisfy. Even my neighbour like it while he has a Samsung Oled 2 years old. He likes the looks of the Xiaomi more. I connected it to my JVC 5.1 receiver 5 x 100 watt output. For this money it is a great TV. Btw, I bought also a POCO M40 Pro 8gb and 258gb Ram. It was a Xiaomi sub. I am a fan of Xiaomi. It can compete with other big wellknown brands but is more affordable. Great choises.

Hi nice review, I bought Mi TV 55" 4s and I would like to ask if anybody has a news about any upcomming updates. I've just read that Xiaomi anounced updates to Emui to unify connectivity across all their products: TVs, phones, watches.... I have a Xiaomi phone Mi 11 Lite 5G and have trouble to screencast mi phones display. Otherwise it is a good TV

now you can get a 70 inche Xiaomi TV for under 400 Euro in China. For that kind of price, the Chinese versions all have ads I think. and most likely Xiaomi just forgot to update the English manual.

I would not buy it, if ads are displayed. I think, Xiaomi could do it like Amazon with their devices (tablets...) : Cheapest price includes ads, pay a little more: no ads (If they REALLY need the ads to keep their prices low) I also have an Android TV (Philips) and i like the UI Otherwise: nice video, Martijn

Does anyone else who owns the 2020 version 55 inch experience very annoying clouding in the bottom corners? It gets really severe in purple, brown, grey and orange colors. It's made me hate the TV's otherwise great quality.
