nice work dude. Those front calipers are a pain in the arse, but you did super well. I've split and killed seals before now. I switched over to the "blue spot/blue star" calipers from the R1's, Fazers, R'6 way back in 2008 and not looked back. Way better braking for the heavy beast of a bike, than the standard calipers. Also gives you equal wear on the brake pads as well. They just bolt straight on. but you need to have 2x brake lines from the brake reservoir to the calipers, also gives equal braking to each side, no pulling to one side or the other.

TH3_V1k1ng thanks viking yes they was pretty intense to fit in. And thanks for the heads up on the R1 and Frazer calipers someone as mentioned this before. But they are a bit to pricey for me at the moment. Maybe if I decide I am going to keep the bike long term it's something I will do in the future.

You can pick up a pair of blue spots for about £50 on fleabay. but the problem is using the right key words to find them. The blue spots or blue star calipers are on various bikes, and its finding the ones that go for £50 instead of £150. USA but £58 in total-ish www.ebay.co.uk/itm/2000-YAMAHA-YZF-R6-RIGHT-LEFT-FRONT-BRAKE-CALIPER-SET-PAIR-CALIPERS/401566130086?hash=item5d7f34dfa6:g:hCEAAOSwcVZbRlLD

Another enjoyable vid John, the big test ride day is just that little bit closer again. I have always bled the brakes starting from the caliper/bleed nipple furthest away from the master cylinder, i was told that years ago by a bike mechanic and have also read about it from other bikers throughout the years. After watching your vid i did a quick google search, and youtube and that seems to be the general consensus. So if your brakes are still spongy after your first ride out, just keep that in mind. As always best of luck for next weeks ep.Always appreciate your efforts and giving me something to fill in my day.Cheers.

top man johnny for restoring the original FLOATING sliding caliper twin piston brakes, many are doing the four pot blue spot conversion, the blue spots are solid mounted, the xj 900s disc,s are solid mounted, this combination is effectively going back 50 years in disc brake design, there must be "float" either in the disk or caliper without it a warped disc hits the pads, these get hot, the pistons get hot, the fluid gets hot,it expands and fills the reservoir, when that's full it pushes the pads out against the warped disk, the pads get hotter, by now the brake fluid is boiling, and this feedback loop continues until the wheel locks, these brakes lack instant bite as ive found to my cost. but i wont swap them, ive seen a mate fluid boil and lock whilst doing 90 on an xt600, he was ashen faced and shaking,, here,s a link to an early solid caliper acting on a solid warped disc. it was after this incident that the need and importance of " float" was fully understood, RIP bazza ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-EGOd1U2ZBhA.html
