I couldn’t figure out what you were saying when you said the name of the antenna you were using. E.A.R.C., HI is the name of the radio club who makes the antenna (Emergency Amateur Radio Club of Hawaii), of which I am a member of. I have built many of those antennas to be mailed out to people who didnt want to build their own.

It was handed to me as "ear-chee"... so it's never said, only spelled?

I don't really understand why a radio several times more expensive than the X6100 doesn't have a tuner, which doesn't bother me either, I basically use resonant antennas. Does it at least have a voice transmitter? I use it often at WWFF. I really like the Icom 705, but unfortunately I haven't yet found a reason to spend so much money on it, can you recommend one that I've missed? Thank you, Jakub.

I'm not using it up to its full potential either... better receiver? Wifi,Bluetooth for audio and rig control is nice, but not many apps support it yet. GPS is nice also. I have desires on how I want to use it, but never get around to doing it.

I see that you kept the band setting on " Manual 30M " is that correct? should you not change that?

In most cases, the tuner board and the amp board are different devices. Since I was able to change bands and get a tune, it "works". In most amps, the radio needs to be matched to the amplifier circuit and then the amplifier circuit needs to be matched to the antenna. Since the amp circuit was bypassed, that's probably why this worked. I'll run another test and see if there is any difference.

I sold my G90 and I still have the XPA125 amp/tuner. I thought that the band had to be changed automatically with G90/X6100 or it has too be changed manually with a 705. Explain again why you did not change the bands for the initial tests. Were you using the 705 to XPA125 interconnect cable? Thank you.

I explained it at the end of the video and demonstrated it. The band-select puts a set of filters inline to help with harmonics. Its not going to effect the performance/strategy/results of the tuner function. I'm using a homebrew interface cable to key the amp from the 705.

The "output" SWR reading is really confusing. The manual declares it is XPA125B output; however, if that was truly the case it shouldn't change. Is it fair to guess that "output" SWR reading is really the value at the internal PA output?

Circling back to this, I was getting setup to do some research and I looked at my other video: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-gOO7YdE2KPQ.html Here I run through all bands and show power output on the XPA125B and an external meter. Take a look and let me know if that answered your question?

How does the amp perform? I have a G90 so the tuner doesn't matter, but is it worth the ~$550 as an amp?

I have the 705/125B combination (as well as a G90) and it is a great combination. You can go full QRP with just either the 705 or G90 when you want to grab a radio and a resonant antenna and do a little POTA/SOTA, or grab a radio and the XPA125B and run upwards of 100 watts (the higher bands seem to only kick out 85 or so watts max) and get out just like a 7300. It's relatively light and compact, so taking it along with you in the field isn't really an issue either (I have mine in a Harbor Freight case), but if my main shack rig has a problem, I can simply pull out the 705/125B and run 100 watts with no issues.

Here's some XPA125B ATU SWR tuning & "memory" info. This was tested using a G90 with it's ATU off to drive an XPA125B with its ATU on, and the XPA125B Auto band changing enabled. When the XPA125B ATU is tuned for lowest SWR on a specific band/frequency, the low ATU SWR setting for that band/frequency can be saved in the XPA125B. There's one "memory" per band. This allows rapid band changing without needing to retune the XPA125B ATU. It seems this functionality works only if the band selected on the transceiver and the band selected (manually or automatically) on the XPA125B are identical (for example, 40 meters on the transceiver and 40 meters on the XPA125B) during the initial ATU SWR tuning for a specific band.

I get around on a walker, putting antennas up higher is a problem with Weighted bags And sing shots don't work I got bruises on my thumb to prove it for the Slingshot. The bag I think is gonna have to take a little work I think it's called practice practice practice how's that sound to ya TO

No worries Paul. I operate 20,30,40m with a 7 meter collapsible mast and have a blast. I use the qrpguys tri-band vertical antenna with it, and I can get 100w on 20m and the qrp on 30 & 40.

Go back and check out the ending of the video. I addressed and demonstrated how this tuner handled that - in short, the band selection is for the amp section, not the tuner section.
