thanks for doing this comparison! would have liked the settings in the photo comparison though. did you set shutter speed, white balance, iso and hdr-setting manually to be the same on both phones every time you took a picture? i'm asking because the exposure and white balance seem so different in some of the pictures. for example at 10:25 the photo on the left is just overexposed but you argue that the right photo has a higher dynamic range when it really seems just a bit darker.

Nice review! Just got my Xperia 1 iii yesterday and I'm loving it! (used a Xperia 10 ii before and its worth the upgrade) Watched this video because of curiosity between Xperia 1 iii and Xperia IV, not really a reason for an upgrade in terms of photography.

Great review. Which of these would you choose in 2024? The video appears better with the 1 iii. Is the zoom lens comparable quality wise to a Pixel 6pro? Also noting reviews on the Sony 5iv and 5v. Seems the 5v has an uodate on lossless 2x zoom. Have you tried these ones? Im just looking at this range because they are going quite cheaply used, But I'm not sure whether the Telephoto lens is good enough in the 1iv. Or is it? Currently on a Pixel 6 pro. Finally, is it essential to use something like lightroom to edit your Sony photos to make them look good, because I only want to use a free app if I need to do that. Cheers.

Are the cases mutually compatible? I have Sony 1 iii, but the official case is no where to be found. I am thinking about getting an 1 iv case for my 1 iii, will that fit?

Chromatic aberration seems much more prevalent on the iii. Major benefit for the iv for those of us usually in the sun.

I have a question. Did you adjust the settings when taking pictures( manual mode) or it is auto mode?

Could you check the fastest shutter speed of 1 IV in Pro app manual mode.. could it go up to 1/8000?

Sorry for bothering. But could you achieve better photos with the mark iii if you put some time in changing the settings? And if you can recomend it in 2023 over th pixel 7a? In my country i can find the xperia 1 iii at around 200 dolars.

hello, my budget can only get up to a xperia 5 iii do you think it's worth it to get xperia 5 iii instead of xperia 1 ii? i mostly take portraits of people and sceneries

Zoom seems worse on the iv, weird. 70mm (on iii) starting point is also better than 85mm for portrait shots. But overall the iv wins camera-wise, especially better selfies and less CA.

Nice review finally Sony improve auto hdr, and this smartphone gets better photos.

for me 1iii wins this. 1iv most of the time gives us darker exposure i don't mind a softer picture when yo upload your pics in socials it ain't gonna be very obvious anyway and i hate oversharpening.

Just came a new firmware 64.0A.5.71, i suggest to make again a optical camera test again, because according to Sony, telephoto's pics will be better!

It will be catching the iron man suits up soon. Maybe then it will be as good as Samsung

Should have used the phone mic. Most of us will be using that. Hardly anyone will be using exactly the same 3rd party mic as you.

It's very disapointing that Sony decided to put pretty much the same main camera in much more expensive Xperia 1 IV. Results are basically identical. Xperia 1 IV's selfie camera still sucks compare to other, much cheaper phones. So Xperia 1 III to IV upgrade is pointless, a waste of money.

If your video has been made then give me a mobile phone in India, it is not available here even after a lot of efforts, I have seen all your videos on sony phones or others. 😢😭😭😭
