Interesting concept, but who really needs this ? How often do you fail that you have to rerack the weight. Usually normal spotter arms would do the job.
Is there a way to at least lock the bar from moving front to back.... to make it more like a Smith machine. I feel like this is so close to being effectively a Smith machine attachment for a rack.... but it's not quite a Smith machine if the bar can still freely move in every direction. It's pretty much a different version of spotter arms... really expensive spotter arms. Cool spotter arms... but spotter arms nonetheless. I'd say this is better than traditional spotter arms for squats.... but for bench it's pretty much the same thing. So while really cool I struggle to see paying the $1300+ for.... a really cool squat spotter device.
The bar slides on 1” pipes and they did place clamps on there to lock it in place if you want. That being said the pipe is lubricated so the bar slides easily and this makes it so the clamp can’t hold very well. I don’t think it could ever work identically to a Smith. That being said Bells of Steel are coming out with a smith machine attachment to any rack any day now. Could be cool and hopefully a decent price.
