The reason why the car turns more when trail braking, is because there's more weight on the front tires, like you said at 11:34 the nose goes down, and more weight on the tires=more grip, while at the same time, the rear gets light, less weight on tires=less grip, this weight transfer from rear to the front makes the car rotate and the steering wheel job in this situation is to guide the car through the corner entry by using small steering inputs to balance the car and prevent it from over-rotating and spinning. This technique will not only allow you to go faster but will preserve the tires as well because you minimize the steering angle on entry.

@xQc yes your are right, braking is like an amplifier of your car steering ability, because you apply more weight on your front tires, so more grip, but it means also less weight on your rear tires, so less grip. So if you break too hard while turning, you risk to overwhelm that front grip and lose your rear grip. Btw, the reverse effect applies also when accelerating, you send your weight in the back, decreasing your front grip, so less turning abilities and if it's a rear wheel drive, you can even end up overwhelming your rear grip and spin if you turn even a little bit. The secret is smoothness, because even small taps on your brake or gas could be detrimental, since your car is on shocks, see them as elastic, they inprove comfort and help also grip on uneven roads but complexify the grip distribution as your weight is juggling with a certain latency, and create uncertainty on what you should do with your wheel rotation. To simplify it, brake hard only in straight if necessary, if there is no straight in that precorner, create one, and trail braking or use engine braking to increase rotation. In fast corners, either coast using a very low engine braking to apply weight on your front tires or brake very smoothly. Engine braking could also be dangerous, as you don't really control it, not as much as your breaking pedal, so it could lock your tires (either front if it's a FWD or rear of it's a RWD), and ending up with the same issue, going straight or spinning. I watched your progress of the last weeks, you are really impressive, you are learning fast.

Oval is all about managing yaw. Trail braking allows you to get more yaw rotation without using more wheel input, which makes faster laps while also saving font tire wear. This does sometimes come at the expense of rear tire wear but its a spaller amount that the amount you save on fronts.

Getting the basic idea. It is good to remember the front of your car is riding on 2 springs. If you smash the brake, it will smash the nose down onto the springs, and it will want to bounce back up (and pull the front tires up with it, which takes away grip). If you apply a more constant 10-20% brake, you’re keeping the nose pressed against the front springs and tires, and giving the front more grip.

absolutely true, needs a load cell, logitech brakes have no feedback and are impossible to develop any sort of consistency or feel for sensitive braking which is absolutely crucial for iracing or any serious simracing

Nice! Also at 9:59, everything Justin said is correct - in addition, that was very saveable. Anytime you hear the RPMs jump and tires screech it means you've lost rear traction and they're spinning faster than the vehicle's forward speed. A simple (partial) lift of thorttle there would've allowed your rears to "catch" grip and keep you pointed straight. The goal is to always stay at but never across the limit of control, but when you go over, it's good to also have recovery skills. Good luck sim racing!

Bro I am so happy that X is finally starting to realise the Logitech wheel is not meant for simulator racing, especially the brake pedal. I am an online retailer of electonics, mainly gaming goods, often gaming wheels and Logitech are by far the best sellers but they are so terrible. For that price range, I much prefer Thrustmaster. However, X is rich; so he can afford a Direct Drive wheel with some great pedals. He should just get a Fanatec wheel set.

Even when you’re in a corner that doesn’t require too much breaking or really not much breaking at all. It’s good detect the break to get the nose pointed down to gain some down from your arrow. He is right about that.

when racing in oval, just turn left and focus on your nose. 11:22 yes you are upsetting the balance of the car. youre treating it like a F1, cars are very heavy. even downshifting can give you a spin.

when you give it a little break the nose dives, gives you extra grip on the front tires

The Logitech Breaks really are horrible. I'm still using the Logitech pedals but swaped to using the clutch pedal as the break, would recommend.

People keep saying he isn't taking this seriously but he is. He's falling down that rabbit hole and I can tell he will be a competitive racer a year from now maybe even 6 months. Took me only a few months to truely undrrstand trail braking and rely on it to help turn my car in even more then my wheel itself. You know what I'm saying if you sim race lol. Once I got that down. Went from d6 to d3 overnight which is a monsterous difference in laptimes. Once he truely eelaizes how to do that he will be awesome tbh. I just hope he upgrades his kit soon. Not because it makes him better but it makes it way more immersive and more fun and yes it can improve you quicker. Doesn't mean you can be better but it helps you with the information It tells you! So you can learn quicker instead of guessing judgment without the correct details and snap for corrections. It's funny because usually the first few days you so worse with more ffb but then boom you realize what it's actually trying to tell you.

if you spin whil on acceleration it is because you're asking the rear tyres 2 things at the same time with too much force. The rear can follow the front under acceleration on a turn while using the available grip they have left, but if you ask them to spin harder on a turn you will have no more grip and they will give out sending a mario kart banana to the rear while the front will keep trying to follow your steering input. You either ask them to turn hard and accelerate soft or accelerate hard and steer soft. The key to be fast is trying to you using that weight transfer in order to make the car do what you want instead of the car telling you what to do.also remember there are 4 wheells working independently so a good driver will be aware of not only the front and rear weigh and angle but also the left and right weight. ps: disable racing lines, they are wrong 99% of the times as each car has different braking needs or way to take turns.

The downside to the Logitech brakes is that they don’t operate on a load cell. Braking properly and using it to turn the car around is the hardest part to learning to drive fast in my experience

06:00 It happens to me on assetto corsa. The first time I am ingame before moving the car I give it a very hard press, until the brake indicator bar gets fully red, that way the range gets bigger and next time I brake I won't lock the wheels at 50% press. The other fix is using brake gamma curve with a slow start and ramps up near bottom from iracing pedal calibration settings

I have raced in Porsche cup car series in real life for 10 years. What XC seems to fail to realize is that when you’re passing someone it’s your responsibility to overtake safely at the correct time and anticipates what they are possibly going to do. As well as people are racing and blocking is racing many times I’ve been blocked while trying to pass people go off-line to block people and you have to find the rightway around them think that people should get out of his way that’s not how racing is

I recommend you get a good rig set up, pedals are by far the most important thing you can get because the brake is everything. You need LOADCELL brakes. The driving line is just a reference you really gotta go off your own feel for the road. It’s not a interactive racing line it’s the same color in every position on every lap regardless of your speed. Just use it to familiarize yourself with the track then completely ignore or better turn it off. Everyone had to race in rookie to get to the next D, C, B, then A license 😅

Sim to real racing the next big thing. The Gt movies help make it more mainstream too. Gt7 in vr is a killer app too. Its sooo good.

I use the clutch pedal as a brake on the logitech system lol, can modulate it alot more and since im left foot braking its easier too as the pedals are too close together

The racing like is just something to help you get started it’s not always the best line to take all cars are different tires change the line will change

5:58 I got a logitech G920, probably a similar model as X's, not entirely sure. The brakes are definitely something from factory. For one you have to take apart the pedals and remove a rubber stopper in the brake pedal so its able to travel its full distance. With that rubber block inside the brake pedal, it only travels about 30% of the way down and in some games you its so bad you essentially don't even have a brake pedal. This has been my only gaming wheel, so I'm not sure if its specific to this model or not.

The driving line is meant to show you the basic brake point and line.Try for a couple of hours without it I guarantee you will get faster...I am much quicker without the line than with the line on tracks that I know really well as I tend to follow the line too much when its there and the line is not necessarly the fastest way around. Also, its more important to set the car in a slight oversteer entering the corner than it is to follow the line perfectly and it is very hard to do while folowing the dotted line perfectly.

Its wild cause I've been a part of iracing since 2017~ Ive watched like all of this guys videos (I forget the name but im subbed, DJ something) Glad to see you being interested, lots to learn.. It definitely would be helpful if you had a guy who knew a bit about iracing and the systems to help propel you out of the races with trolls for example I think the racing like actually hinders your performance and prevents you from learning real racing lines (no offense you have the line on but half the time you're still turning in too early or not breaking properly)

The Logitech brakes are horrible because they have a rubber stop that is way too hard. It's the first and easiest upgrade anyone who buys a G29 kit should do.

mr.x you could get away with installing a brake mod for the g920. i think you are aware if you get a load cell at that point you need a full sim rig as you wont be able to use it on carpet and a rolly chair. if anything you could use the clutch as a brake just make sure the sensor reads linear

Time to spend a little of your millions on a set of Heusinkveld pedals and a DD base. Your going to need a rig then also, so your going to be in for about 3-4k aud. Well worth it though.

Just a tip for the brakes, if you're using the G29 bind it to the clutch pedal instead. It's still shit, has too little range and gives you no feel but you can learn to be consistent with it unlike that piece of shit brake pedal. I used to trail brake that way okay-ish before I upgraded to loadcells.
