Those old XRs are near to indestructable and good looking bikes, very reliable and easy to maintain.

Francisco, I agree the xr always had a great classic look.

Good looking yes no doubt about that. As a matter of fact the best looking but the motors were far from indestructible actually motors were bad. RFVC had a top end problems valve springs were too soft and valves were easily roachable. Suzuki DR Yamaha TT/XT and Kawasaki KLR DOHC water cooled were all better than Honda those years.

@@anthonynicholich9654 the 250 had its faults engine wise and so does the 200. but they can be fixed with some upgrades.

I just got a 81' xr200r. It sat for over a decade and mice used the carb as a toilet for many of those years by the amount of dried molasses like gunk inside.. 6hr in an ultrasonic cleaner, oil change, timing adjustment, throttle cable,petcock valve, air filter, new chain n sprocket. now its firing up 1st kick! Blown away a 40+yr neglected bike can run that well

The one about the xr200 is they have a decompression valve hooked to the kick start , smaller riders have no problems starting it .

Did you know those old honda pro links needed a stupid stiff spring rate? I forget the exact number but its like 5kg spring on new and like 9kg or more on the older ones. At least it was on early pro link CRs. That made the shock work harder with damping it. So in my opinion i like newer pro linkd as long as they are set up right. And the grease fittings are great. But on my xr they put it right where it gets wiped off by a rock
@SubscibeBikeGiveaway
@SubscibeBikeGiveaway 9 месяцев назад
Good points for sure. I have had to drill and replace sever fittings for that very reason.

Do you think a 2004 xr200 would be a good first bike for someone who weights 140 lbs and is 5’8? I also wanna take it on some pretty rocky/bumpy trails, do you think it would be capable of that?
@SubscibeBikeGiveaway
@SubscibeBikeGiveaway Год назад
I believe the last year of production was 2002 for the xr200r. The suspension leaves a lot to be desired especially if it’s wore out. So if it’s really rocky you might have trouble bouncing all over. On the other hand it’s softer so you’ll take less abuse. I’d say your weight/ height is perfect for it and you’ll enjoy the torque
@TradeMarkCuber
@TradeMarkCuber Год назад
@@SubscibeBikeGiveaway you are correct it was listed as 2004 but it is a 2002 and it takes quite a few kicks but it gets going and 6th gear is crazy fast but the suspension is definitely bouncy which was difficult learning how to get into first because i can never expect the the rear end dropping. Overall it could definitely use some tlc but i love the bike

250 will not fit with out a ton of fabrication. Honestly wouldn’t be worth the effort. A 200 motor would fit a 250 frame with some custom brackets. I’ve seen that done before

I disagree. No changes on the 200 from 1986-2002 excluding 1985 with the engine (4 valve) and 1986-91 suspension. The 1986-89 xr250 is closer in likeness due to no rear disc break till 90.
