The higher center of gravity on the T4 is not a disadvantage. The relationship between the roll center and the center of gravity is what determines weight transfer during cornering which is what puts weight on the outside wheels to give you grip. If you can imagine the centre of gravity and the roll center overlapping each other, then there would be zero weight transfer which is not good. To make things more interesting, if you would imagine the centre of gravity being lower than the roll center, then the car would lean towards the inside of a turn instead of outside. You can see this effect in submarines where the center of gravity is lower than the center of buoyancy and when they turn, they lean towards the turn instead of towards the outside. In a car it isn't possible because you have the road surface but I hope this helps you understand why you don't want to have a very low center of gravity in relation to the roll center of the car. Have fun racing!

Thanks for the feedback. For me I believe when you load the outside tire you also reduce the grip of the inside tire and the overall grip is less than 2 equally loaded tires. Happy to hear your thoughts on this. I actually want to design a car than lean into a turn, to cancel out the weight shift to the outside :D

@@rccartips The problem you describe is due to suspension travel. Either stiffer springs or stiffer anti-roll bar will help you with the roll of the car. You want the weight transfer to happen on turns to push the wheels down, that's how you generate grip. It is similar to how aero adds grip except you use the acceleration forces on the chassis instead of air. You can try to make a car with the centre of gravity below the roll center. Just get a very tall crawler and hang some heavy weights under it to about the same level as the ground.

@@BinarySounds Thanks for that. I've been trying high and low roll centers on the suspension pin height. High rc seems to puts more pressure on the outside tire without taking from the other tire. Low rc is easy to drive but sometimes feels too stuck in the corner. My thinking right now is start with high and only lower if the track grip is so high that car is too reactive and undriveable.

@@rccartips I am not familiar with the rc model you have but the higher roll center should result in lower roll as you minimise the distance between rc and center of gravity so there is less leverage created when turning. Ensure you have the same ride height after you change your roll center. As you said, higher roll center will result in a car that is easier to drive but with the lower rc your car gets stuck in the corner. The reason your car gets stuck in the corner is because too much pressure is placed on the outside tires, causing too much friction and making your car stall. The higher rc, places more even pressure on the tires because there is less force applied on the outside tires during cornering. This is a perfect example of the balance required between having not enough roll to increase grip on the outside tires and having too much roll that it stalls the car and burns the rubber. Typically it is the front outside tire that will suffer the most by having too much roll. This is something you will then address with ackermans angles. As with everything in suspension geometry, changing one parameter often means a cascade effect on all the other parameters and it is very complicated to get it right.

They are trying to differentiate, the X4 with small shocks towards the motor, the Iris with torsion springs, the awesomatix with leaf springs, then a mix of pillow balls (x4, mugen), and hinge pins (tamiya, infinity) or pillow ball hinge pin combo (Raceopt T3m, Axon TC10/3) and then the shafties ATI, Carten. Good times! :)

Justa have a question: how do you approach cleaning your cars after a race or a ride. What products do you use and where. Do you disassemble them completely? They are so perfect.

Paintbrush and compressed air (be careful not to blow dirt into the bearings).

Well, you are obviously biased towards Awesomatix but let me ask you this. Why did Yokomo and Xray dominate the 2016-2018 world championships and almost every race during each ETS season so far? Even though I can't deny that Awesomatix is a great car, especially on carpet, I think that there are things to be improved so that the team could win big races.
@rccartips
@rccartips 5 лет назад
I own 2 Xray T4s and 0 Awesomatix. However by just visually comparing and doing a tilt test, am now believing the Awesomatix is a better design (weight distribution, geometry, materials). Other teams have world champion caliber drivers, Awesomatix does not. Bruno and Volker are driving talents. I think Awesomatix of Freddy placed 4th while Xray of Hagberg was 5th? Seems Awesomatix is now developed to a stage where the car is dominating ETS round 1 in stock and on pace in Mod. For me, I will still bring my Xray T4 and see on our track which one my daughter will go faster in. :)

@@rccartips Maybe you are right. It will be very interesting to see how Awesomatix cars perform in the future.
@rccartips

I think Awesomatix has the potential to go further given the physical design advantages whereas the standard TC's might be hitting a brick wall given their higher cg and shock/spring design. Wish they could sign a world champion driver to really develop the car.
@RCForcesSK

Boris RC the reason why xray is faster is that they have better drivers. Xray is pushing the current standup shock setup to the limits, why? Because this concept is much easier to produce, much cheaper, less carbon , less special parts etc etc, they are trying to squeeze the maximum from the platform and they do not have reason to change this concept while they are competitive. On the other side xray is easier to setup changes and also you can do them faster, awesomatix is very complex and harder to work on.
@turtletrading4207
@turtletrading4207 5 лет назад
@@RCForcesSK RCF Yes, I know all this, I have an Xray myself and I have seen an Awesomatix car at my local track. How is simplicity bad for racing? Simple is better imo. From the video you would think that the Awesomatix is far more superior car and I don't believe so. When it comes to drivers, maybe you are right but Awesomatix have very good drivers too such as Freddy and Viljami who is dhi cup and multiple ets race winner. Sadly he left Awesomatix recently idk why. All I am saying is that both cars are awesome but they shouldn't be compared like this. A day at the track will give much more information than simply saying "one car seems to have less slop and lower CG and therefore it is better".

Yes. Last Satuday my daughter lightly touched barriers that lead to her Awesomatix popping the front lower steering ballcup and later rear upper ballcup. In her Xray, never such an issue.

At the end, you say equally fast!! So with all the Awesomatix advances and cost, you DO NOT see any significant benefits in speed. That tells you that the Xray is as good and a lot less cost. Why waste money for same performance? Durability is also critical to non professional drivers. Unless you have a lot money, Awesomatix will not make you faster. Learning to drive will. Only the professional can see affects of new innovation. 99% of us will never know the difference. IMO.
