Nicely done and I appreciate your comments on not trying to cut super thick materials with it. As you said, the extra power is more about being able to cut faster and not so much for extra thickness.
@TripodsGarage
@TripodsGarage Год назад
Yeah, I really think people don’t understand the concept. The more power you have in the module, just means you can go faster with the same results. I’m sure all to many people will have those clicking titles showing it cutting a 2x4 for the views. As you see in my video I could have easily gone that route. However, I want people to know why the power is there. Thanks for watching and commenting 👍

Yeah! This was an editing challenge. Just like all my videos with each screw, I would move the camera, and move the product. This one just had a ton more shots. I have about 70 hours into the production of this video. I am glad someone appreciates the work that I put into my content!

Excellent review! Not ready to pull the trigger on a laser yet, but it's encouraging to see the power increases so soon in the product's life cycle. I will wait until one comes out that can etch knife steel pretty deeply, as that's what I would mostly use it for. I assume this one would make short work of cutting out leather sheaths.
@TripodsGarage
@TripodsGarage Год назад
Thanks for the complement! Much appreciated! I see most product reviewers skipping the whole assembly processes. I am unsure if I should as well. It was a pretty equally divided video, build and testing. In either case, I believe this video was in need of an assembly guide. If you can, please let me know your thoughts? Xtool is really cranking on all cylinders with innovating their product line. I am sure this will make short work of a leather sheath. If you are looking to engrave metal deeply, I would suggest a fiber laser. You can get one that will eat metal for breakfast, lunch, and dinner! Xtool is releasing their F1 shortly, it "isn't" a traditional fiber laser, but has the 1064nm and 455nm modules in one, on a galvo head. Personally, for the blade I would just anneal the blade, then engrave the tang and or handle. Thanks for watching and commenting!
@brysonalden5414
@brysonalden5414 Год назад
@@TripodsGarage I absolutely think your video perfectly covered the assembly, and I would refer back to it often if I was assembling one. I will look into fiber lasers; I have some customers who would like to have images on their blades, and a laser would be, in some ways, easier than 3D printing something and doing canister damascus. I suspect if I learned how to set a laser so as to minimize burn I could cut handle scales with it as well. Thanks again for contributing to my knowledge!

A very nice review. I purchased the XTOOL D1 10 watt machine. Now I’ve got the hots for the XTOOL D1 Pro with of course the 40 watt laser module. I have suggested to XTOOL that they give trade ins for the smaller units, refurbish the trade ins and sell them at a reduced price. Then, the could sell more new units and make more money on reselling the older units. So far, I have received no response. 😢
@TripodsGarage
@TripodsGarage Год назад
Thanks Phillip! Yes, this module is very, very impressive! Being able to reduce your engraving or cut times by up to 2/3's with the 40w is very impressive! I had planned on mentioning "the left behind parts" in the video. However, between forgetting about it, and the video running long it didn't make it in. I believe there should be a trade in program like you mentioned with a return label. Think of all these middle rails that nobody will ever use again. This would also be great for the older D1 units as well! What do you think #xtool I don't advertise very often, however that is an affiliate link if you are looking to purchase 😉
@philipershler420
@philipershler420 Год назад
Yes, but what I have been thinking about is if XTOOL would have a facility where users (like me) who have an XTOOL D1 10 watt, could trade in the machine and get a discount on a new XTOOL D1 Pro with a 40 watt laser. The old machines could be refurbished and sold a discounted price. XTOOL would sell more new machines and make profit from the refurbished ones.

The tortillas worked well. I imagine they would like a nice steak heart cutout. I couldn't find a d1 with the 40 w, only a 10 w then add the 40w upgrade
@TripodsGarage
@TripodsGarage Год назад
Yeah they loved the tortillas! Well I did laser etch a steak in one of my videos, just never cut one 🤔. I believe they silently discontinued the original D1. If you are looking to purchase, that is my affiliate link 😉

I would be curious if you pumped CO2 through the air assist to prevent flames how that would perform with slow passes (not that I am advocating for people doing this regularly).

Note to anyone thinking of purchasing - the 40w module and the extension are not YET compatible. The 40w requires a different power cable and they haven't made one long enough for the extension yet and will not be available for several weeks. They don't tell you this, so I am sharing here.

Thanks! I try to add some humor where I can. Most people don’t catch it. Bear and Oreo are pretty awesome puppies! The reason why it caught fire, max power, too slow, and too many passes. Thanks for watching and commenting 👍

I’ve been giving serious thought about buying one of these, now the 40, but am most interested in the infra-red module. During their presentation I mentioned that I’d like to see a more powerful version of that, and they replied to me saying that I should keep tuned. So it looks like that will be coming. But my concern have been a number of reports that their machines break down after a while. That concerns me. About trade ins. It’s difficult for companies to do that, particularly when they’re small. What will they do with them? They can’t use any of the parts in new machines. They can’t refurbish them and sell them as new. People get angry if they find out that they’ve been given a refurbished part as a replacement for a broken one. They still have to make money on the whole deal. And how are you going to ship the now assembled product back to them? Do you expect them to ship you an empty box to hold the assembled machine? And who pays for the shipping? It doesn’t pay.
@TripodsGarage
@TripodsGarage Год назад
This 40w is a real beast of a module! With that much power, cycle time can be greatly reduced. I am also curious on a higher power IR! You can see from gantry to small galvos all of them are 2 watts. Most of the gantry IR’s are around the same size. I am curious how they would try to keep the original size, while putting more 1064nm diodes in! I have mentioned it many times, there will be always more people reporting issues than people reporting their success. This happens on all Groups\Forums. Personally I haven’t had any issues with mine. I had the “left over parts” as part of my original script. However, due to me forgetting it didn’t make it into the video. It is an upgrade kit. You are getting the minimum parts to upgrade your existing hardware. As a customer, what do I do with the leftovers from the original machine? It is tough to say the least! There could be a “refurbished unit listing”? However, the parts would need to shipped somewhere locally in your region to make it cost effective.

when removing motherboard just un-screw it and leave wires all connected. Then when you install the new board connect all wires before screwing it in place that way you are not fighting with the close connectors.
@TripodsGarage
@TripodsGarage Год назад
Bingo! I believe I mentioned that while I was plugging them all back in. So many camera angle shots and editing time could have been saved 😂! I during the editing, I couldn’t believe I didn’t notice that I could have done it that way. That is why I slipped that comment in. XTool really could simplify it, if the instructions were written that way. Thanks for watching and commenting. Hope this video helps with the reassembly process if you decide to order one 👍

Hello. very good video from you! thanks for that! I have one more question? Would the cable length of the new X-axis also be sufficient when installing with an extension kit? Thank you for your answer
@TripodsGarage
@TripodsGarage Год назад
Hello! Thanks for watching and the compliment 👍 The included wire harness is too short for the extension. I would assume that you would need an additional extension for the 40w kit if you were to use the extension. As the main board is different, and there are two additional pins for the laser head on the 40w. Hope that answers your question? Thanks!

Have you tried cutting 1/8" or thicker steel or aluminum with that ? 40 watts is not a lot of power, How many watts of power does it take to run the 40 watt laser, the whole 200 watts? Thanks
@TripodsGarage
@TripodsGarage Год назад
It would take a ton of passes for 1/8”, that’s if it could do it. I wouldn’t even try. I’m not at home to check the PSU for wattage. I’m sure it isn’t that much, possibly 200 like you mentioned.

once you upgrade to the 40w, can you use your older 5w, 10w or 20w lasers from xTool on new gantry?
@TripodsGarage
@TripodsGarage Год назад
Ok, there is a 9 pin main, and a 2 pin separate, total of 11 pins. The two extra are used for the 40w exclusively. I have the 20w with the same 9 pin. I only have the IR 1064nm for the regular D1, and that has lesser pins. So check your pins. You will notice that 6:38 in my video, there is a position limit bracket that is replaced. That is set for each module according to the manual from the 40w, IR, 20w, 10w and 5w. Think this is only for the D1 Pro version. Hope that helps you! *** If you are looking to purchase, my affiliate is in the description. Lumber isn't cheap 🤣
